'Barbarian' trailer out: Zach Creggar's twisty horror movie review (Economic Times)

If you've eagerly waited for the horror movies slated for release in the fall of 2022, Barbarian might be the one to make you shiver.

The views expressed here are that of the respective authors/ entities and do not represent the views of Economic Times (ET). Currently playing in cinemas, "Barbarian" is an uncontrolled descent with several shocks that haven't been revealed, but they entail a spooky cellar and hideous secrets underneath the surface. Like any good horror film, the quality of the trailer alone will keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat. [Barbarian](/topic/barbarian)official trailer if you're seeking a scary movie with intrigue and a gripping mystery. Viewers speculate that Barbarian may, in reality, allude to some monster due to the character's continual searching before discovering something. Will destiny turn this potentially alarming meet-cute into a classic rom-com?

Box Office: 'Barbarian' Tops 'Brahmāstra' With $3.8 Million Friday (Forbes)

'Barbarian' will earn around $9 million over the weekend as 'Brahmāstra Part One - Shiva' aims for $4 million.

I’d also argue there’s a sharp difference between ‘all are welcome’ or Veggie Tales-style Christian flicks (that’s a compliment) like Heaven is For Real and The Shack and arguable persecution-complex and/or explicitly anti-choice films like October Baby. The Kirk Cameron-starring melodrama earned $855,000 on Friday for a likely $2.32 million opening weekend. That’s well below the over/under $10 million debuts of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017 and RRR this past March. The hope is that Barbarian, which has used the whole ‘don’t read just go’ hook as an implicit marketing tool, will leg out as audiences discover its various surprises (the marketing is almost entirely focused on the first act) and ghoulish pleasures. Ayan Mukerji’s ambitious but frankly formulaic and plot > character franchise-starter earned $2 million on Friday for a likely over/under $4 million weekend. Like Idris Elba’s Beast (which opened with $11 million a few weeks ago), this is the kind of old-school genre programmer that probably would have netted an easy $20 million back when more folks went to the movies just to go to the movies.

The Northeast and Canada saw most of the business with nine of the top ten runs. Decent runs we here in Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Charlotte, Nashville, Kansas City, San Antonio for a $855K Friday and an estimated 3-day of $2.2M. Audience scores aren’t as great as the critical scores at 70% positive on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak with a 54% recommend and a C+ CinemaScore. Strong ticket sales in NYC, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and Austin with Toronto and Vancouver also delivering. However, the situation with horror films more often is not is that studios go lean on P&A in their spend on these titles (under $20M) in seeking a greater upside. That pic, directed and written by Zach Cregger, follows a woman staying at an Airbnb, who discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems.

Box Office: 'Barbarian' Crashes Through the Gate With $3.8M Friday (Hollywood Reporter)

'Barbarian,' lead by 'It' star Bill Skarsgard and directed by Zach Cregger, is coming in ahead of expectations for a possible opening weekend of $9 million ...

The movie is projected to come in No. The film is getting the widest Imax domestic release ever for a Bollywood movie. September 2022 is notably quiet in terms of event titles in a setback for the summer box office recovery. The majority of the audience is between the ages of 18 and 34. Variance is launching Medieval, a 2022 English-language Czech historical drama directed by Petr Jákl in 1,311 runs. Skarsgard, of course, played the demonic clown Pennywise in the two Stephen King It films, which also launched post-Labor Day. Star Studios came under the Disney fold when Disney bought 20th Century. That puts the well-reviewed film on course to earn $9 million or $10 million, ahead of an expected $5 million to $6 million opening. The dearth of studio tentpoles is due to supply-chain issues resulting from the pandemic. Either way, it will win an otherwise quiet weekend. Critics like it much better, with Barbarian currently resting at a 93 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. After all, this is a horror film; it’s not required to have a bit of social commentary as a throughline. It’s never really explored though it is presented in one way or another by setting it in Detroit, and in a certain area of Detroit, it feels like it should have been addressed at the very least. Sorry to say it, but Tess is a perfect victim, but she’s also street smart, and her ability to read others is her most effective power until, like most horror films, things go out of control. He continues to explore how perspective impacts the journey but implements a comedic element to Barbarian that runs through the remainder of the runtime. He makes sure to implement a story transition that flips the script on everything it built, and once you think you know what’s gonna happen, you figure that you don’t know anything. there’s something about sitting in a theater to see a movie like this.
