Double sin-binning ends Cowboys comeback as clunky Souths seal finals berth.

“He did a bit of everything tonight. “Murray was in everything. However the Cowboys will rue a missed opportunity to cement a top two spot and they now will likely have to play the Sharks away in the first week of the finals. They were more disciplined and more aggressive. The seventh placed Rabbitohs need to win to lock up a finals spot, while the Cowboys can all but seal second spot with a win setting up a crucial clash for both sides. For the Cowboys Scott Drinkwater switches to five-eighth for the injured Tom Dearden, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow coming in at fullback. They were kicking Souths into bad positions. It is a good luxury for the Cowboys to have to call on Drinkwater as a playmaker when needed. Drinkwater returned to the position he played for the Cowboys for most of the past few seasons and didn’t look out of place in the playmaker role. Feldt was sin-binned for taking Alex Johnston out in the race to score a try reducing the Cowboys to 11 men in chaotic scenes. Coen Hess was sin-binned for a shoulder to the head of Souths centre Campbell Graham reducing the Cowboys to 12 men for the remainder of the game. The Rabbitohs have scraped home 20-10 against the Cowboys to secure their place in the top eight, while the Cowboys blew a chance to finish top two with two late sin bins.

In a substantial blow, Tom Dearden is out with injury and his place at halfback is taken by Scott Drinkwater. Winger Jaxson Paulo has been left out of the side, with Izaac Thompson taking his place. He has made a big difference to the Rabbitohs’ performance week to week. It clearly could have gone either way and will only provide Souths with more reason to bounce back tonight. We are lucky enough this weekend to have a number of semi-final previews. Lose and the prospect of a home semi-final will likely drift away. "It helped seeing Brisbane get the points put on them the other night but we still had to win … Making the most of Brisbane's capitulation against Parramatta, the Raiders cruised to their biggest win of the campaign against the lacklustre Sea Eagles, building a comfortable buffer on the Broncos in the race for the finals. Fifita was given a standing ovation in the 68th minute — the same time he scored the grand final-winning try — and was thrown on for a second stint late in the game but was unable to recreate his feat. "To win at this back end of the season, fighting for a spot in the eight, it's exactly what we need." In the first 20 minutes alone they made four errors and a try to Briton Nikora ought to have been enough to wake them from their slumber. But the concern for Fitzgibbon will be that the Sharks have not hit top gear since they began their run with a golden-point win over the Rabbitohs in round 20 and could head into the finals underdone. Second on the ladder since round 18, the Cowboys have now dropped to third place and are behind Cronulla with a week to play. Fifita and Tolman could yet play one more match at the ground, providing the Sharks finish second on the ladder to book a home semifinal. Down 14-6 for the majority of the second half, Kyle Feldt put the Cowboys back in the match with a tremendous solo effort when he broke free and kicked for himself to score. Keaon Koloamatangi straightened the Rabbitohs up for their first try, before Cameron Murray went to the line and helped Mitchell put Alex Johnston over for a four-pointer in an eighth straight match just before half-time. The Cowboys dropped to third place on the ladder as a result of the loss, allowing Cronulla to move into second spot. The Cowboys got to within four points of the seventh-placed Rabbitohs with 12 minutes left in their match, but ended with 11 players on the field.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told The Sun-Herald that Souths had been informed they were free to train at Allianz on Thursday after making inquiries a month ago. It’s a pity the last couple of years he’s been injured or suspended because we could have won those comps with him. “I’m definitely keen to slide [over] on that new turf.” If he did not break his cheekbone, people are saying it’s a great hit. “I scored a few tries on that field,” he said. Annesley confirmed Souths had contacted him, but told The Sun-Herald: “We have complete confidence in the professionals who are responsible for the installation and maintenance of the turf at the stadium, however, in an abundance of caution, we will, of course, conduct our usual checks early in the week to ensure everything is in order for the NRL and NRLW games on Friday.”

You want Coen Hess to run in and do what Victor Radley did? "Did you want Coen Hess to run in and tackle like Victor Radley?
