Cinda didn’t just want to make a podcast about a girl who had disappeared; she wanted the girl dead, probably killed by the mayor. It was indeed a warning, and Becky knew that she had to leave or disappear before the inevitable happened to her. And Mabel and all the others watching the series knew only one dead girl who was very much alive, and that was Becky Butler, also known as Poppy White. But that was not the end of her sinister mind. The bloodstained matchbook also had a fingerprint, which Mabel, Charles, and Oliver wanted to give to Detective Williams for a fingerprint test before it was stolen by a glitter guy, who was none other than our corrupt detective, Daniel Kreps.

So we have a room full of them in the midst of all of this and to make this setup that feels traditionally Agatha Christie, very deeply whodunit, we then throw twists that are truly insane in there. Now she’s a woman with a new purpose who is stronger and even goes on to solve the case. For the character, I think there was so much to do with Mabel—as she says in the finale, ‘Any year without murder is a good one for me’—that we really looked toward giving her a brighter beginning. For both those characters, the shock of Bunny’s death for Oscar and his father working in the building, just felt like it was really hard for him to stay at the Arconia. We made a call that we didn’t want to see Mabel develop a relationship where the trauma bond is strong. Trying to advance herself further by taking the lessons she learned, she stepped into it in Season 2 and everything got out of control so she tried to throw Cinda under the bus. Mabel alleges that Alice master-minded Bunny’s murder and framed Mabel, the subject of Alice’s art installation, to increase the value of her artwork. (The waiter says that even Bunny thought it was gross.) Mabel gets a call from Detective Williams and figures out the killer’s identity, and the meaning of Bunny’s last words “14” and “Savage.” But she doesn’t explain yet.
