Explaining all of the reasons why Elvis Presley died in 1977 and didn't fake his own death, despite the rumours which suggested he fled to Argentina.

While it might be reassuring for fans to cling to him faking his death, it’s a fairytale divorced from reality. There is also seemingly a security presence, but that is normal for any public event, and it’s not clear they are working for the elderly man. For starters, it wasn’t even possible to get a direct flight from Memphis to Buenos Aires in 1977.

Gail claimed to have pored through thousands of FBI documents and said that Elvis was enlisted as an undercover agent by the FBI to take down “The Fraternity" and that when the crime organisation discovered Elvis was a mole, he was put into witness protection. In an interview with TIME, Gail Brewer-Giorgio, the author of the 1988 bestselling book Is Elvis Alive, recalled how she came to the conclusion that Elvis was in the mafia. In January 2017 a photo appeared on the Elvis Is Alive Facebook page showing a man with a white beard at Graceland, with security personnel to the left of him. But towards the end of his life Elvis apparently wanted to change the spelling of his middle name to the biblical Aaron. Some conspiracy theorists believe that the proof that Elvis never died lies in a "clue" on his headstone. The very first "sighting" of Elvis after his death happened on the day that he died.

Elvis fans by the thousands came to Graceland to participate in the Candlelight Vigil, which marked the 45th anniversary of Presley's death.

Making their first Elvis Week visit, from Bisbee, Arizona, the Harpers visited Memphis in the late spring of 2020, right after Graceland reopened following the COVID shutdown. The Enderle siblings were striking, but one of the more fashionable fans was Renée Harper, 44, a self-described "creative" who was decked from ankle to crown in Elvis attire: Elvis socks, an Elvis belt, an Elvis-pattern dress, and acrylic hand-cut and sculpted Elvis earrings, jointed to present a simulacrum of hip-swiveling with the shake of her head, which was topped with a "hair fascinator": a large flower, with a figure of Elvis nestled in its petals, like the proverbial baby in the cabbage patch. "It's the only song I sort of know all the words to," he said. Elvis responded, with good humor, which explains the shirt Hartley wore Monday: "I Spoke with Elvis Presley - Las Vegas - 1974." Members of fan clubs from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and Scotland were among the "honor guard" who lined the driveway, like palace guards, as others passed between them, in handcrafted Elvis jewelry, Elvis print skirts and shirts, and even Elvis jumpsuits. "When I discovered Elvis, I just had a connection with him — I couldn't get enough of him," she said.

Behind the Death and Legacy of Elvis Presley - American Songwriter (American Songwriter)

It is the 45th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. So, in his honor, let's take a closer look at the death and legacy of Elvis Presley.

In his 2006 book, psychologist Jeffrey Jensen Arnett documented President Jimmy Carter’s remarks on Presley’s legacy: “His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. All of these ailments came to a head just as Presley was set to fly out of Memphis for another tour. A few years prior, in 1973, Presley and his ex-wife Priscilla Presley finalized their divorce after months of turmoil and affairs (on both sides). At the time of their divorce, Presely’s health was in a nosedive, and the divorce only pushed Presley deeper into that dive. He was a person who thought that as far as medications and drugs went, there was something for everything.” Presley’s spiral was largely caused by his abuse of a myriad of drugs, usually overprescribed by his personal physician George Nichopoulos. For instance, in 1973, Presley overdosed on barbiturates twice. During his lifetime, he a disruptor of genre and social norms.
