It keeps their hopes of finishing in the top four alive, but more importantly, gives them even more breathing room in terms of the race for the top eight - putting them four points clear of Canberra, who would likely have to win all of their remaining games to even have a sniff. A 20-point margin should be more than enough, you'd think, and some of these tries have been a joy to watch. Brisbane Broncos vs Newcastle Knights: NRL live scores, blog (The Roar)

The Brisbane Broncos will be looking for a big win to cement their spot in the top 8 when they take on the Newcastle Knights at Suncorp Stadium.

David Klemmer has been a late withdrawal, with Jacob Saifiti starting and Sauaso Sue getting a spot on the bench. 0 It is likely in the halves where Newcastle will be looking to bolster their squad for 2023. It’s perhaps unfair to point the finger at anyone in particular, but the guidance of Mitchell Pearce has been missed this year. 0 It has been a long season for the Knights. 0 0 However, if the Broncos forwards can create a platform, Reynolds can still weave his magic. A lot of the Broncos’ success is built around Adam Reynolds, and opposition teams have realised this. The Broncos have perhaps overachieved this year and, after consecutive losses, there are some questions being raised as to whether they are fading late. With just 4 rounds remaining, the Broncos get a chance to make their finals spot just that little bit safer tonight.

The Broncos have slipped from fourth to seventh on the back of losses to the Roosters and Tigers and must steady the ship at home in Round 22.

Mitch Barnett is out with a thumb injury, replaced at lock by Mat Croker. Winger Edrick Lee remained in the squad when it was trimmed to 19 on Friday and could be a late inclusion as he looks to return from a foot injury. Knights: A change on Friday with David Klemmer dropping out, replaced in the starting side by Jacob Saifiti, with Sauaso Sue added to the bench. Broncos: Centre Brenko Lee is out after he experienced hamstring tightness at training on Wednesday and was unable to take his place in Friday's captain's run.

Missing link returns to ignite Broncos, Knights' 'awful' problem: 3 Big Hits.

“He has got a real nice slight of hand. “He scored with five minutes to go and it set the tone for the rest of the game for the Broncos.” Michael Ennis was at a loss as to why the Knights haven’t been able to be more competitive with the roster they have at their disposal. “The Knights are in all sorts at the moment.” Michael Ennis marvelled at Mam’s ability to break the game open out of nothing at such a young age and with a long career ahead of him. “They had the tools to break open the game at any stage with the likes of Adam Reynolds with some craft to sell the dummy for the Oates try. “He alleviated a lot of pressure off the halves just by his ability to be able to ball play and Cobbo and Mam were the beneficiaries of that.” As long as the Broncos can get their defence in order, with Mam and Reynolds driving the ship and Selwyn Cobbo finishing in the corner, they can create more than enough points to make a deep run in the finals. Cooper Cronk noted that the Broncos were not at the peak of their powers against the Knights, but Reynolds and Mam were able to ice the try-scoring opportunities. Mam and Martin combined for one of the long-range tries of the season to push the Broncos out to a commanding 18-0 lead. Cobbo sealed his hat-trick when Reynolds put the ball on a dime for him to score in the corner and put the icing on the cake. The Broncos have beaten the Knights 28-10 on the back of brilliant displays from Te Maire Martin and Ezra Mam and a hat-trick to Selwyn Cobbo.

There is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of improvement in us, but we got the win and I saw enough signs there tonight that we can do some good things in the next couple of weeks." We just lacked a bit of polish in good ball, we had enough footy to probably trouble them there in the first half... It was a young team we had, we had a lot of personnel out. Just as it looked like Martin was going to be tackled short of the line, he spun and found his five-eighth backing up once again, passing to let Mam do the rest. "I thought we made some good progress tonight in a lot of areas. Beautiful link play between the Brisbane No.1 and No.6, ending in a wonderful 70-metre team try.

Broncos' Cobbo scores three in Knights win (The West Australian)

Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds and winger Selwyn Cobbo have halted a Newcastle comeback, leading the Broncos to a 28-10 victory over the Knights.

"They're a dangerous footy team with athletic backs and Reynolds does a really good job in putting them in the right positions on the last plays," Knights coach Adam O'Brien said. Up by eight with 10 minutes left, it took some Reynolds' magic to ease the 25,742-strong home crowd's nerves by setting up Cobbo's last two tries in the right corner. Broncos captain Adam Reynolds stamped his authority in the slippery conditions to orchestrate four of his side's five tries - and three of which were scored by winger Selwyn Cobbo.

The try was eventually confirmed though the conversion attempt from Anthony Milford was a shocker. Adam Reynolds converted and the Broncos took an 18-0 lead into the half-time break.

Cobbo hat-trick steadies Broncos' nerves in win over Knights (The Sydney Morning Herald)

A dominant first-half display guide Brisbane to their first win in three weeks on Saturday night and virtually locks in a finals berth.

It also ended a two-game rut following flat losses to Wests Tigers and the Sydney Roosters which had put their top-four hopes on ice. When Bradman Best swivelled over with 13 minutes left, the visitors had the momentum but Reynolds stepped up to combine with Kotoni Staggs for Cobbo to cross. “We’re obviously not happy with the second half but pleased with the victory after the last two weeks,” Reynolds told Fox League. “It was a step in the right direction.”

Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds and winger Selwyn Cobbo have halted a Newcastle comeback, leading the Broncos to a 28-10 victory over the Knights.

When Bradman Best swivelled over with 13 minutes left, the visitors had the momentum but Reynolds stepped up to combine with Kotoni Staggs for Cobbo to cross. The win virtually locks in a finals berth for Brisbane - their first since 2019 after two painful seasons in the cellar - as they now sit three wins clear and a significant for-and-against advantage over ninth-placed Canberra. Up by eight with 10 minutes left, it took some Reynolds' magic to ease the 25,742-strong home crowd's nerves by setting up Cobbo's last two tries in the right corner.

Five-Try Broncos Blitz Sinks Knights (Broncos)

The Brisbane Broncos blitzed the backend of both halves to set up their 13th win of the season with a 28-10 victory over the Newcastle Knights.

Reynolds made it four from four with another sideline conversion to make it 24-10 with only a few minutes to play, before he set up another classic for Cobbo with a pinpoint perfect cross kick to the flying winger to catch on the full and score for a 28-10 result. But the Broncos steadied and sealed the deal when Staggs and Cobbo combined again down the right edged for the young winger to make it a double for the night and his 14th try for the season. The Broncos set up a string of try scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes of the second half but could not land the killer blow, and the Knights got a foot back into the contest with a try to Daniel Saifiti in the 58th minute.

“We weren’t sure how it was going to work out. “We talk a fair bit on the field obviously trying to break teams down. “For the injury that he had a few years back, he went into the wilderness for a couple of years. “But the opportunity came up for us to get him here and we jumped at it, to be honest. A highlight of the night was his link-up with Ezra Mam, as the two combined to race 70 metres up the field for a long-range try. The return of Martin at fullback helped to guide the Broncos to a victory which almost assures them of their first finals appearance in three years.
