LIVE AFL: Saints turn blockbuster 'on its head' but star's shockers leave door ajar.

“He and the Lions asking the question.. But this time, his fifth behind for the night cost the Lions as the visitors went coast to coast and Joe Daniher goaled from the square - opening up a two-goal lead. The Saints kicked five goals to one in the third term to take a five-point lead into the last. Rayner gave the Lions the lead back just minutes into the final term as the “see-sawing” contest as King’s yips continued in the final term. Howard had opted to get a fist to the footy and knock it to the boundary. Tempers again threatened to spill over when Zorko was penalised for a trip on Windhager, and went on a little after the tap was made. “Starting to lose a bit of composure here the Lions,” Taylor said. Dougal Howard was left stunned early in the third term when he was busted for insufficient intent to keep the ball in play. Hipwood got out the back and goaled from the square before another big contested grab by McStay pushed the lead out to a game-high 26 points. The ball just wouldn’t sit for Neale as he streamed inside 50 and the Saints dodged a third bullet as Jack Sinclair was there to bring the ball out of defence. Tempers threatened to spill over a few times in the first term as the Saints sat just one-point behind. But the first term was played mostly in the Lions’ front half as St Kilda were unable to clear.

Saints, Lions face off in crunch Friday night battle. LIVE from 7.50pm ... (AFL)

There's massive finals ramifications when the Saints host the Lions under the roof at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

Currently one game - and significant percentage - outside the eight in ninth spot (11-9), St Kilda's finals hopes could be dashed by the end of the round, pending other results, if they can't chalk up a win. After a loss to ladder leader Geelong last round, this is now a must-win game for the Saints (10th) if they're to keep the finals dream alive. The Lions are knocking down the door of the top four, currently adrift by percentage only in fifth spot (14 wins, six losses). After an impressive win against Carlton last week, the Lions can jump into second spot on the ladder if they are to make it two wins in a row.

McKinnon shows her might as Lions lead the way (St Kilda FC)

All-Australian recruit Erin McKinnon was a standout in St Kilda's practice match against Brisbane at RSEA Park.

ST KILDA 1.1 1.2 2.2 2.4 (16) The All-Australian’s work-rate pushing deep into attack was a noticeable feature throughout, adding to St Kilda’s forward line which was without Caitlin Greiser (knee knock). The experienced Lions were a cut above for majority of the day, skipping out to a three-goal lead before a much-improved second half from the Saints stemmed the flow in the 2.4 (16) to 6.6 (42) result. Erin McKinnon was head and shoulders above St Kilda’s most influential player, piecing together a commanding performance in the air and physical – and at times, fiery – showing at ground level to challenge Brisbane’s set-up. Final hitout done.— St Kilda FCW (@stkildafcw) St Kilda has a clear blueprint on what to focus on ahead of Season 7, ticking off its second practice match in as many weeks against Brisbane this afternoon at RSEA Park.

in direction of the home and leapt. When Jarrod Lienert gained a giant rivalry in opposition to McInerney, the Saints took the lead and Tim Membrey did not disappoint with this snap – and it went to Dayne Zorko to let him learn about it. The ball did not match Neale, because it flowed within the 50 and the Saints missed a 3rd lead whereas Jack Sinclair was there to push the ball out of protection. The primary interval, nevertheless, was principally performed within the Lions entrance half as St Kilda did not clear. Regardless of the Lions making all of the assaults within the opening minutes, Jack Higgins was the primary to take St Kilda to the board. The Saints (11-9, 101.1%) took a cautious strategy to the veteran after hurting his ankle in final week’s loss to Geelong.

St Kilda have cost themselves dearly on Friday with one star forward copping the wrath of footy fans for his horrendous outing. James McKern. 2 min read.

“The set shots were relatively easy, they weren’t on tight angles. The Saints’ last seven scoring shots were all behinds. The Lions‘ last five scoring shots netted them four goals and one behind. Footy fans watching on were quick to lambaste King for his horror night out, when St Kilda were desperate for the win. St Kilda fans in the stands were routinely spotted by the cameras with their head in their hands after each miss in front of goal. St Kilda had it all to play for on Friday night against the Brisbane Lions, but they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot.

House of Rayn: Lion's four-goal haul snuffs out Saints' finals hopes (AFL)

Cameron Rayner kicked four goals to help Brisbane defeat St Kilda by 15 points under Friday night lights.

St Kilda midfielder Brad Crouch is set to come under the focus of the Match Review Officer after his heavy and high bump on Brisbane defender Darcy Gardiner. Gardiner was kicking but was collected late by Crouch with a big bump, which also connected with Gardiner's head. Rayner kicked what looked like being a steadying goal for the Lions midway through the term but that sparked the Saints, with Wood and Tim Membrey kicking two goals each for the term to stun the Lions and take a five-point lead into the last change. More shots came in the final quarter for the Saints, with King, Membrey and Windhager missing chances. It was clearly Wood's best game for the Saints since arriving from North Melbourne ahead of the 2021 season. After trailing by 26 points in the second quarter, the Saints had rocketed ahead by three-quarter time with a five-goal term. The Lions put their collective foot down in the second term.

Rayner kicked what looked like being a steadying goal for the Lions midway through the term but that sparked the Saints, with Wood and Tim Membrey kicking two goals each for the term to stun the Lions and take a five-point lead into the last change. It was clearly Wood's best game for the Saints since arriving from North Melbourne ahead of the 2021 season. Mason Wood kicked four goals for St Kilda, while youngster Marcus Windhager did an exemplary tagging job on Lachie Neale. It was one of Mason Wood's best games in his time at St Kilda. Wood kicked four goals and also set up an important major for Tim Membrey in the third quarter to help the Saints during their rush against the Lions. Wood's classy left-foot kicking and craft inside-50 was a factor in keeping the Saints in the game before their run after half-time. The Lions were ill-disciplined, with St Kilda making the most of it. The game was an armwrestle between the arcs, with a classy Wood goal in the final minute of the quarter pushing the Saints five points ahead before Eric Hipwood kicked a goal on the siren to give the Lions a one-point advantage at the first break.
