The roster of Splatoon 3 maps caps out at 12 confirmed so far, both returning maps as well as brand new ones exclusive to the latest game.
Another of the returning maps from the original Splatoon, Museum D'Alfonsino probably looks like one of the fancier maps in Splatoon 3 that we've seen so far. Yes, Splatoon 3 will DLC support after launch from Nintendo. While the developer has stated there'll be over two years worth of free cosmetics and weapons to fight over, they haven't actually commented on how many post-launch maps Splatoon 3 will see, or how long players can expect new maps to arrive in the shooter. Another map hailing from Splatoon 2, Sturgeon Shipyard sort of takes after Mahi-Mahi Resort, utilizing changing pathways to catch players off guard and switch up the dynamic rapidly. Now here's a map that definitely looks reminiscent of a few from Splatoon 2, even though it isn't actually from the previous game in Nintendo's series. Undertow Spillway definitely looks like one of the more industrial areas in Splatoon 3. Here's a full list of all the Splatoon 3 maps we know of so far.
Returning players to the Splatoon franchise will earn some immediate rewards when they log in to Splatoon 3, according to new information.
Still, it is interesting that Nintendo is giving returning players to Splatoon 3 rewards, providing fans with an incentive to stick with the series in the long run. Rather, Nintendo is giving some extra bonuses to players of Splatoon 2 when they log into the third game. Also, players will be able to join Splatoon 3's Anarchy Battles, which is the new name for Splatoon 2's Ranked Battles mode, as soon as they launch the game.
New and returning stages, modes, weapons, a TCG, and a brand new host trio all revealed.
The first of these Splatfests is coming on August 27 as a pre-release event, and the theme is Rock, Paper, Scissors. More details can be found here. What's more, there's a wonderful new feature called the Locker Room where you can view your own locker, as well as the lockers of other players you've played with recently. Just like the stages, weapons will see a mix of new and familiar types and styles. As in past Splatoon games, Turf War is the main mode of play if you just want to jump into the lobby for a casual match. Squid Surge allows you to swim up a wall in a rapid burst, while Squid Roll lets you execute a quick turn around to move in the opposite direction while popping you into the air fro the ink. You can also view replays of battles you've already finished with fast forward and skip options, view them from different player perspectives, or even upload those replays to share with others. Yes, the trusty app from previous Splatoon games is also coming back. We don't know much else as of yet, except that Cuttlefish, Callie, and Marie will all make appearances. Though it seemed fairly obvious based on the footage we've seen so far, Nintendo confirmed that Octolings are indeed playable, and they appear to be available alongside Inklings from the start of the game. Most notable, though, are the brand new Splatlands news hosts: Frye, Shiver, and Big Man the stingray. A ton of new NPCs were debuted today, too. The Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct just concluded, and boy was that show dense.
Splatoon 3 has made the excellent Salmon Run mode far more accessible, and a lot more appealing.
I can't stress enough how welcome of a change this is to Splatoon 3's Salmon Run mode. But Nintendo went one better with a post-Direct update on the official Splatoon website (opens in new tab), confirming that Salmon Run will be playable "at any time." That included more info on the horde mode-esque Salmon Run which is returning from Splatoon 2.
