International International Negotiating a maritime accord would help instill confidence between aggrieved parties and could lead to cooperation on important matters such as renewable energy, water scarcity, climate change and regional security. International Notably, the Biden administration is now mediating a maritime border dispute between Israel and Lebanon — countries that, like Turkey and Cyprus, do not have diplomatic relations and need externally-led arbitration. Some analysts rightfully point out that Turkey is unreliable, deceptive and cooperates with our adversaries, including Russia. The U.S. should leverage the tanking Turkish lira, the upcoming Turkish election, and Erdoğan’s pursuit of an F-16 deal, to attach concessions to any agreement that inures to Turkey’s benefit. Additionally, successfully brokered U.S.-sponsored talks would strengthen American ties to the region and help to restrain a recalcitrant Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Russia’s soft power initiatives aim to peel away U.S. allies such as Greece, Cyprus and Turkey — countries that are susceptible to Russian offers of investment, energy and tourism dollars. China’s Belt and Road Initiative is expanding into the region, while Russia seeks to undermine U.S., EU and NATO objectives in this theater. Turkey’s maritime deal with the Libyan government that largely ignores legal Greek and Cypriot claims is destabilizing the eastern Mediterranean, as are Greek actions such as militarizing Aegean islands close to Turkish shores. … As agreed to by Greece and Turkey, the special envoy shall also represent the United States in promoting mutual discussions between those countries concerning their differences on Aegean issues.” In late July, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with his Greek counterpart, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, to reaffirm American support for Greece’s security in the face of mounting Turkish threats and an arms race that potentially could lead to open conflict.

The outlook is best in those who are diagnosed when the cancer is still small, and has not spread. Treatments which reduce the level of these hormones, or prevent them from working, are commonly used in people with breast cancer. - Initial assessment: A doctor examines the breasts and armpits. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. The sample can confirm or rule out cancer. Staging means how big the cancer is and whether it has spread. This makes the cell abnormal and multiply 'out of control'. If this occurs you will develop a swelling or lump in an armpit. Breast cancer can develop in men though this is rare. Some people are diagnosed with 'carcinoma in situ', where no cancer cells have grown beyond the duct or lobule. High grade cancers are more likely to come back after they have first been treated. Each year in the UK there are more than 55,000 new cases, and the disease claims the lives of 11,500 women.

How Greece became Europe's worst place for press freedom (POLITICO.eu)

The country's financial crisis sapped media profits. Outlets grew more partisan. Critical reporting waned. Threats toward reporters rose.

“When the government is largely immune from media oversight, its reflexes are dulled and its incentive to misbehave increases,” he said. Then, in April, a network of journalists with Reporters United revealed the government had spied on reporter Thanasis Koukakis, who was working in part as a contributor for the Financial Times investigating money laundering and corruption. “The current government is using Syriza’s excesses as a cudgel with which to beat down any voices of criticism,” he said. Last November, journalist Stavros Malichudis realized from a leaked report that the government had spied on him. The mainstream media was seen as part of the elite that had brought the country to the economic brink. But the International Press Institute said those funds were directed disproportionately to media willing to uncritically repeat the government line. The report echoed the same concerns journalists and media rights groups have been expressing: rising violence against journalists, a deteriorating professional environment, possible political influence in public media. Syriza pledged to revamp the media sector as part of its efforts to upend entrenched political and business interests. The government tried to license TV broadcasters itself — taking the power away from an independent body. But Greece fell to the bottom of all European countries on the latest list. The Greek government insists the fears are vastly overblown. It’s a problem, they say, born during the Greek financial crisis, which destabilized the country, polarized its politics and sapped media outlets of the profits that helped them stay independent.
