Speaking to The Herald Sun, former AFL coach and current Balwyn boss Rodney Eade claimed that all players involved in the fixture were left shaken by the event, also stating that the venue's boundary line remained painted in close proximity to the outer fence.

“The club is aware that one of our VFL players Eli Templeton was injured in a local game today playing for Balwyn,” the statement read. In a statement, Port Melbourne confirmed Templeton was injured in the collision. It was former Docker Zac Clarke who made the contact that sent Templeton over the fence in the clash between Balwyn and Doncaster East.

According to Balwyn president Richard Wilson, the 26-year-old is expected to make a full recovery as he told local media that Templeton was “cognitive and speaking and passing all the tests” in hospital on Saturday night. The bump came from East Doncaster tall and former AFL ruckman Zac Clarke, and while the hit was reportedly “not malicious”, Templeton was knocked unconscious for two minutes and suffered a fractured skull. According to News Corp, Templeton suffered a fractured skull after being bumped over a fence and hitting his head on concrete at Balwyn Park.
