The Age reported on the Adelaide Crows’ camp in 2020, in a story which included a number of similar allegations to those in Eddie Betts’ autobiography, as well as other claims. In December 2021, The Age and Nine made a business decision to settle the case and issue an apology without admitting that the story was inaccurate. My belief of that is largely because she is a female but I am happy to stand corrected on that,” Jenkins said. Betts also wrote that Jenkins supported him at a club meeting after the camp. “In terms of the lack of action, I don’t agree with that, either. I recall us going around in a circle accepting the challenge one by one whilst a couple of players were withdrawn due to injuries issues as well as one player being removed from group number one because of some personal trauma he had recently experienced. Betts said on Friday he has not joined a mooted class action against the AFL and the Crows, and had no intention of doing so. “My childhood is a source of shame and pain but also pride. She no longer works for the Crows.” It’s the only example of a medical professional who had day-to-day dealings with the people and the players involved.” “The sales pitch was an immediate red flag to me. The AFL Players’ Association also admitted to failings in its investigation.

It's the only example of a medical professional who had day-to-day dealings with the people and players who were involved. "The report must see the light of day. Current coach Matthew Nicks, who was appointed to the club in 2019, said he had spoken to "several" current players who attended the camp, and would reach out to Betts and other former players in the coming weeks to "see how they're going". He said his words today were not an attack on the club, and that he "loved the Crows" and what they provided to his family. In detailing the events of the camp, Jenkins said he was one of 10 players and two coaches who were part of the more intensive "group one" version of the camp. Retired AFL player Josh Jenkins has called for a "damning report" by a club doctor following the Adelaide Crows' controversial 2018 camp to be made public and says he was moved on from the club for being a "problem child".

What I am about to say - and what Eddie Betts has stated in his book - has been four years in the making.

It’s the only example of a medical professional who had day-to-day dealings with the people and players who were involved. They would’ve put a stop to this and I think the club knew it… That’s why I was so strong on the doctor and welfare manager being involved. Crows fans, consider this, my words are not an attack on the logo or the club. Something which was promised to me - but in my view, a promise that was broken. I’m choosing not to reveal some of those comments because I know people who care about me are reading… I only include that info to explain how misguided this whole situation was… he said he sits under a tree until the voices stop. In mid-to-late 2017, prior to the Grand Final and - obviously - the camp, we began role-playing activities, none of which really had any substance. I consider myself as a matter of fact person, a realist, I’ll call it as I see it… I was thinking… This is my recollection of the camp.

"My childhood is a source of shame, pain and pride... "I suppose overcoming the loss of your senior coach to a senseless murder and making the finals two months later and making a grand final two years later was not enough." "The only cancer at the club was the idea that taking us on a psychologically unsafe camp that was supposedly going to make us better parents, siblings and teammates. "In the end, I was moved on from the Crows as a problem child, an argument starter and even in one piece of literature I saw labelling me as 'cancerous'," Jenkins said. "I recall, during one meeting, our doctor expressed in front of the entire playing group and most the staff that what occurred on then camp was totally unacceptable - and I know the report captures that." "I distinctly recall the role playing on what to say to partners and teammates."

Some may accuse me of being too cold and calculating (my wife would even accuse me of that on occasion and I thank her for her support the whole way through and she remains devastated and furious at the way our time in Adelaide ended).
