2022 CrossFit Games Event One “Bike to Work” Results — Adams ... (BarBend)

Haley Adams kicked off the 2022 CrossFit Games with the first Games event win of her career, earning 100 points.

History started to repeat itself as rain trickled in — Koski won the first event of the 2021 Games in the water and could do something similar in 2022 if he maintained his lead. The commentary team was at a loss as chaos regarding who was in the lead took over. Spencer Panchik paired up with Đukić for second and third, respectively, behind Koski. Colten Mertens struggled early and was lapped by the lead athletes. Adams was tight on her heels, and it didn’t take long for Adams to take the overall lead — 20 seconds ahead of Horvath. Koski, Đukić, and Medeiros were at the front of the pack. Ricky Gerard, Giorgos Karavis, Lazar Đukić, Roman Khrennikov, and reigning Fittest Man on Earth®, Justin Medeiros, appeared in the lead on the toes-to-bar, but it was Noah Ohlsen who was first to the bike ride. Khrennikov led a group of five other men pulling away from Gerard, who split the gap from the rest of the field. Laura Horvath quickly took the lead and was noted to have had the fastest test run on the bike portion before the contest began. After the second lap, Medeiros and Đukić made their moves to first and second, respectively. The rest of the heat jumbled in a crowd as they moved from the arena to the bike course. Toomey, Haley Adams, and Matilde Garnes were the first to reach the bike course. Each Individual was fitted to a Trek bike featuring all-terrain tires for this contest.

CrossFit Games Day One Individual Recap (Morning Chalk Up)

Morning one at the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games opened with high humidity and the threat of severe weather, but guarantee for an action-packed day with four…

At the end of the workout, Vellner buckled down and took the win. The women were up first again and once the dust settled on the qualifying rounds, it was Brandon, Mal O’Brien, Lawson, Elisa Fuliano, and Rebecca Fuselier in the final heat. When the dust settled, Adams took the event win in 38:23–the first of her career–and Toomey edged out Lawson for second place in 38:26. Each round the field was pared down and the skills increased in difficulty. Noah Ohlsen was the first off the rig, finishing his 75 toes-to-bar in just over two minutes, but once on the bikes, Roman Khrennikov took the with a large pack following him, including Justin Medeiros, Lazar Djukic and Pat Vellner. The first event of the competition included 75 toes-to-bar to start, followed by a five-mile road/off-road bike ride, then 75 chest-to-bar pull-ups and another five-mile ride.

2022 CrossFit Games Day One Results — Garard and O'Brien Lead (BarBend)

Day One of the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games is now in the books. Check out the event results and current leaderboard here.

This win for Vellner helped balance out a lackluster Event One performance and place him in third position overall. Loewen converted the first event win of her Games career and O’Brien locked in the overall lead at the end of the first day. In the final event of the day, it looked like Toomey was back on track as she got out to an early lead. While 10 athletes in total competed in the final round, only two made it across the finish line. This event consisted of three rounds with the each division cutting in half after the first round, and again down to five athletes in the final round. Despite the chaos, Garard kicked off his Games return with a bang, ending at the top of the leaderboard. Koski even reentered the larger group during the second bike ride because he lapped the field. Event Two — the outdoor “Shuttle to Overhead” — was postponed due to rain. The Men’s heat was a mish-mash of confusion after what started as a very strategic approach by the event leaders. Two teens are atop the Women’s leaderboard — 2021 Rookie of the Year Mal O’Brien is in the overall lead, 27 points ahead of Emma Lawson in her Elite Individual division debut at the Games. Throughout the first half of this event for the women, it appeared as though Horvath was going to run…er…bike away with an easy event win. Check out the full Day One recap below.

CrossFit Games 2022: Networked Sound Is Everywhere It's Needed (Sports Video Group)

“Everyone has a Bolero beltpack, and those can access either the Riedel or the Unity intercoms with the press of a button,” says Bjornson, whose Hearcorp also operates Tech 25, an after-school education non-profit that has introduced and taught the basics of live-event technology to nearly three dozen teens and preteens in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood. A campus-wide Riedel Bolero intercom system is deployed around the various venues and is also extended to outside events via a Unity IP-based intercom with 48 drops across all venues. On the network are eight Yamaha live-sound consoles, mixing L-Acoustics PA systems at each venue, all connected through Dante. NEP SS8 and SS4 mobile units handle the event-long outbound streaming for CrossFit International program global feeds, as well as the two-hours broadcast via CBS Sports on Finals Sunday. The result, says Bjornson, is that most audio content will be available from and to every location in real time. In that case, says Bjornson, wireless lavalier and Hearcorp’s custom contact microphones may be quickly paired with CP’s Axient transmitters in local racks and deployed as effects microphones, attached to a nearby wall or beam. Known informally as the “Woodstock of fitness,” the CrossFit Games might owe more to X Games and its multisite operation across a huge campus than that quaintly one-stage ur-music festival. “Historically,” says Bjornson, “broadcast audio, sound reinforcement, and intercoms on this event have been distinct groups living in their own worlds.

Garard grabbed a 6th in the run and a 3rd in the lift to hold on to first place overall with 449. The women were up first again (this will change tomorrow), and in the final heat, it was a dead heat between Tia-Clair Toomey, Haley Adams, Mal O’Brien and Danielle Brandon. 2022 CrossFit Games Event Two “Shuttle to Overhead” Results ... (BarBend)

Toomey moved up the leaderboard after picking up 100 points in the jerk portion of the "Shuttle to Overhead" event.

For reference, the tiebreaker for athletes who tied on reps in the jerk was cumulative run time. There will be a cut of 10 athletes in each Individual division before the final day of competition on Aug. 7, 2022. It appeared Garard has a very slight lead early not, but it wasn’t enough to leverage a significant advantage in the jerks. With 10 seconds before the end of the final round, Saxon Panchik, Jayson Hopper, and Brent Fikowski all led in the jerks with 10 reps each. Halfway through the run, Panchik had a few body lengths between him and the second nearest competitor on the far end of the field. She finished the run with about 50 seconds to jerk as many reps as possible. Toomey picked up a share of first-place points for her 18 total jerks. Toomey had 11 reps unofficially at the end of the round, with O’Brien and Brandon one rep behind her. Brandon and Toomey both scored five jerks in the first round. The 40 Individual Men and 39 Individual Women performed the following workout on the previously scheduled rest day (Aug. 4, 2022). Rain and lightning did not allow the event to take place on Aug. 3, 2022. Migała was in front of the pack for the bulk of the second run, reaching the barbell first for the second straight round. Emily Rolfe withdrew from the competition after Event One.

CrossFit Games 2022: Production Team Is Once Again Onsite in Full ... (Sports Video Group)

After more than three years fraught with front-office shakeups and pandemic-related hurdles, the CrossFit Games are back at full strength this week at ...

From a production and engineering perspective, we have to be ready to adapt and be flexible so we can be prepared for anything that comes our way.” The new events that we brought on board this year has required us to start using bonded cellular to help us get off the campus and be able to cover events in a unique, different way.” That has allowed us to be a lot more efficient in terms of equipment and manpower and eliminated a lot of the issues we’ve had in the past. This has allowed those people to participate in the design phase of setting up the CrossFit Games rather than just showing up and figuring out once they get here.” “By using bonded cellular,” says Roth, “we could keep all of our production facilities here on campus but send people and gear wherever they need to go without having to park a truck somewhere. “With the way it’s set up, [the live-production team] has access to everything the documentary crew shoots,” notes Dube. “They’re out there shooting behind-the-scenes content, beautiful scenics, and dramatic shots on the field of play. “Our goal this year was to integrate all of the on-campus and broadcast [infrastructure] under one umbrella,” says Roth. “In the old days, if we wanted to talk to somebody about the audio level at one of the venues, we had to have someone from our team talk to someone from that team, and it was a huge hassle; now everybody’s on the same team. “Things are always changing right up until the start of the Games, so we have to be ready to adapt and have all the necessary equipment to [pivot] at any moment.” CrossFit and HRP Live worked closely with NEP’s Creative Technologies (CT) division and CP Communications to create a unified fiber backbone to serve both broadcast and on-campus operations across the sprawling Alliant Energy Center campus. Walking in the compound this year put a huge smile on my face because it looked so much like where we had left things at the end of 2018, and I immediately felt like we were truly back.” HRP Owner/Executive Producer Charlie Dube is a longtime CrossFit Games production veteran, as is Lead Director Mike “Rothy” Roth, who has worked the CrossFit Games broadcasts since 2011. Deploying six mobile units, a crew of more than 250, 35-plus cameras, and a comprehensive campus-wide fiber backbone, this year’s operation is on par with the massive productions seen during the CrossFit Games’ peak.
