Welcome to Wide World of Sports' LIVE blog of day six of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham.
Evan O'Hanlon climbed the podium this morning to claim his gold medal from yesterday's men's T37/38 100m. "It was a pretty fast call. However he was bizarrely ruled to have been knocked out with the bout waved off despite the 25-year-old appearing stable. It was the 200th Commonwealth Games gold medal for Australian track and field and it meant a lot to the sprinter. That kicked off a melee of sorts, that led to England's Chris Griffiths and Canada's Balraj Panesar going at it. That fight should not have been stopped. That's not a stoppage. "I find that impossible to believe, absolutely impossible to believe. "If he was anywhere closer to the board he would be in gold medal position with a jump well over 8.2m. As it stands he's done for the day as he finishes in 9th place." At the start of the second round, the Australian was dropped by a right from his opponent, but he got up seemingly unaffected by the shot. After being eliminated, Mitrevski said he was "gutted" trying to comprehend his form, knowing he would have been a genuine chance at placing in the event. After finishing fourth in the discus at the Tokyo Olympics, Denny climbed to the top of the podium in Birmingham, after breaking his personal best twice in a monster showing.
Top Four – semi-finals. In good news for the health of world netball, Jamaica's first-ever victory over Australia at the Commonwealth Games, and just their ...
At both the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup, Scotland finished a place behind Northern Ireland, and will be looking to reverse that result. The world of netball has work to do in supporting these athletes. With experience in Joyce Mvula, Mwai Kumwenda and Towera Vinkhumbo, it will be up to the midcourt to reliably connect their bookends. However, South Africa will hope for a strong performance ahead of staging next year’s Netball World Cup, and the continued growth of Africa’s number one women’s sport. South Africa started in the pool of death, and had to defeat either Australia and/or Jamaica to make their way into the medal matches. For Australia, the attacking nous of Paige Hadley, who is still out with a calf injury, was seriously missed, while Gretel Bueta came off her holds too early, creating a level of congestion in the circle.
Australia's Commonwealth Games netball campaign has been dealt a blow, with the Diamonds falling to Jamaica in a thrilling pool match in Birmingham.
That's always been our focus." Jamaica trailed by as many as six goals heading into the final quarter, but finished in resounding fashion to overhaul the Diamonds with a 57-55 victory. 'Upset of the Games': Diamonds stunned in 'extraordinary' boilover for the ages.
Mistakes like that have been few and far between for the Diamonds,” Cox said. A rare shooter contact call on Fowler handed Australia the chance to pull away. Australia opted to start Gretel Bueta at goal shooter, with Steph Wood and Liz Watson out in front of her. Nicole Dixon-Rochester was centre with Super Netball trio Jodi-Ann Ward, Latanya Wilson and Shamera Sterling the starting defenders. And in remarkable scenes, the Sunshine Girls held on in the thrilling final seconds with Shanice Beckford landing the final goal of the match. When Shamera Sterling came up with the big rejection and regather, Jamaica pushed out the lead with just a minute to play. Weston headed to the bench, Bruce pushed out to GD and Sarah Klau was introduced for her first minutes of the night. A strong take by Bueta over Sterling in the dying seconds pushed Australia out to a 46-40 lead at the final change. A misdirected midcourt ball ensured another turnover as the Diamonds extended the lead to six - the biggest of the match. The world’s best shooter started the match with a bang, with five quick goals to open up the first break of the match for Jamaica. Beckford had a brilliant intercept in front of Ash Brazill and suddenly the margin was back to one. The Diamonds had been expected to sail through their Pool A matches and meet the second ranked team in Pool B in the semi finals.

The third quarter was all Australia as they jumped out to a six-goal lead before Jamaica’s late surge.
