LIVE AFL: Power score in SIX seconds after 'dubious' call in spiteful clash.
“He’s one of four players - himself, Elliott, Johnson and McCreery - that can play out of the goalsquare. It just gives the forward line of Collingwood options. “You’ve got to love the fact he comes out here on the biggest stage and with all the noise, all the talk, despite the fact he’s only a 19-year-old kid, he comes out this quarter and he absolutely lights it up.” Jamie Elliott kicked the opening goal of the final quarter to make it a 24-point game, but Port Adelaide found a second wind, with goals to Powell-Pepper and Butters cutting the margin back as the game began to turn. Zak Butters got Port Adelaide off to the perfect start in the second half with a goal in the opening 30 seconds, but then a run of behinds ensued. It is a testament to their poise and the belief they’re playing with under Craig McRae in 2022. There were no late changes for either side. Neither side was able to trouble the scorers in the early stages of the second quarter, but the deadlock was broken via De Goey’s second goal as he stamped himself as the best player on the ground. Boak was on the end of another free kick and this time received a 50 metre penalty to go with it, gifting him his second goal and once again leading to a melee. A strong mark and set shot from Jordan De Goey after the quarter-time siren reduced the margin to 12 points in favour of Port Adelaide. Ash Johnson was the next to kick truly in front of goal as the Pies began to flex their muscle. The Power burst out of the blocks with their finals hopes on the line, but were pegged back by a Pies side that has made a habit of erasing big margins.
It's a must-win for Port Adelaide if it wants to keep the finals dream alive, but the Pies need the win to secure their spot in the top four.

Josh shook off a fairly slow start (earning his first disposal around minute 20) to continually send the Pies into attack, finishing with a team-high 26 disposals, seven marks and 659m gained. De Goey led all-comers in the first quarter with eight touches, despite having had three weeks on the sidelines with a quad complaint. His decisions and disposals were rusty, but he worked his way into the game nicely, booting two goals either side of the quarter-time break. Playing primarily in the middle, De Goey recorded 23 and five clearances to be one of the Pies' best. After Port Adelaide was held goalless in the second quarter, it started the third with a bang, moving the ball quickly and efficiently to score a goal through Zak Butters in the first 23 seconds. Jase Burgoyne picked one hell of a time to kick his first AFL goal, nailing a set shot in the final two minutes to cut the margin to six, but a free kick and 50m penalty to Collingwood soon took the sting out of the game.

And when you dive deeper (into the statistics) he has spent 72 per cent of game time in ruck in that time. "Collingwood has been the opposite of us - they have been able to get over the line (in tight finishes)," Jonas said. The way they play the game has certainly allowed that to manifest (with four consecutive wins by seven points or less in the past month). JUST saying ... Port Adelaide last hosted Collingwood at Adelaide Oval in round 21, 2017. That is a memorable welcome to the AFL." The second - against Richmond on June 9 - ended in a 12-point loss after the Power rallied late to claim a fourth quarter lead, but could not hold on in close contest. But Port Adelaide could not afford to keep Rozee out of the midfield rotations, particularly the starting rotations. It is not traditional, but it is certainly the way the ruck game is working for us and we are very happy with that." "They have pushed two very good teams (Melbourne and Geelong) in the past fortnight," Bolton said. By circumstance (the shoulder injuries to Scott Lycett and Brynn Teakle), we have found something new." If that door to the eight stays ajar - I know the odds are against us - while we are living and breathing, we will keep going for the win. It certainly is the team that will play to the final siren with Collingwood having extended its winning streak to nine by claiming victory in eight games this season by two goals or less.

For a bloke of his size and power, to be so comprehensively outplayed and outmuscled in marking contests the way he was in this game, is pretty embarrassing. Bit of a shaky start from Trent Bianco, but he more than made up for it by running with the flight. Port will now have the cue in the rack for 2022 and may well start to experiment a little with Rozee. The midfield is evidently where he is going to have the biggest impact, but I’d also like to see him drift forward more and isolate in the goal square, using his pace to place whichever unfortunate defender is charged with minding him. Daicos is choc-full of confidence and despite losing a contest here and there, backs himself to take and make tough kicks. Of course, you can get a little overexcited, as Nick Daicos did at the first bounce, giving the former Port captain a nice little forearm to the back that would make Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine proud. His upside is huge, and I want to see that bow and arrow celebration a bit more often. You just want to see your big man, and main forward target, competing and looking like he is genuinely invested in the game. Their top six remains one of the best collectives in the league, but it has been the way McRae has introduced new talent into the side and got them to gel so quickly that should be commended. He notched 35 touches in this one, marking the 15th straight time he has been 20+ for disposals this season. They see Ginnivan, they blow the whistle and they award a free kick against him. Once again, the tactics of Jack Ginnivan, and those employed against hi, will be questioned by those in AFL circles. And s it was on a Saturday afternoon at the MCG – not quite the traditional timeslot, but pretty damned close, that the 2022 AFL season became just a little bit clearer.
