We cut to Jeff and his buddy sorting through the merchandise. Gene grabs the goods and heads to Nick and Frank. Nick heads off to his child’s spelling bee and Gene regales Frank with his sports knowledge. Does Saul slowly return to his life of crime and consequently bring the heat? Finally, Jeff gets to his feet and slowly collects the materials. Gene goes through his own closing cycle at the Cinnabon. Gets a phone call and pretends to be “Ricky’s” (Jeff’s friend) manager. Earlier, Kathy spotted a smudge on the floor and asked her employee to see to it that it was polished. “Does this store look like it uses sprayer pumps?” All business, she heads to the phone to call his boss. “Here’s the deal: I’ll show you the game and then we’re done.” After concluding his meal, he spins around to check the monitors and Gene stops his watch timer. He makes some food, says goodbye to his coworkers, nods at the sweeper operator, dumps the trash, and meets up with Frank. “The cars, the clothes, the cash, the ladies … I can make it happen.” We then see a man — Gene — stapling “Missing Dog” flyers to a nearby tree.

The 13th and final episode of the season will be aired on August 15. Gene also advices Jeff to pick three pieces of each item so that the steal goes unnoticed until an inventory audit is done after three days. When the two men find themselves alone, Jeff threatens Gene by making a phone call to end him.

Better Call Saul takes a black and white detour back to Omaha that grants Gene Takovic his first big heist.

Whether this trail will come back to bite him remains to be seen, and it bears saying that Gene is still a very paranoid individual who’s constantly watching his back, even tuning in to police radio broadcasts. Better Call Saul’s latest heist proves to be a success, though not quite for Jeff and his friend, who now have a valid reason not to ever snitch on Gene/Saul as they are now accomplices to a surprisingly long list of crimes. As it turns out Gene can be just as charming as Jimmy, learning the ins and outs of the college football scene in Nebraska to get closer to the mall’s security guards, but especially to Frank whose plump figure reveals a sweet tooth and a particular fondness for cinnamon rolls.

Cinnabon's finest has still got game – if not much else – in this welcome, fun-packed interlude from all the horror.

The point of course is to have some FUN. And lo and behold, Jeff wakes up on the department store floor, gathers his stolen goods and makes a dash for the exit just in time. Directly crossing paths with the ultimate victim of his crime (the store manager) he leaves an “SG was here” on the shop floor by pairing a garish shirt and tie on a rail. He has to keep the guard distracted, and keep talking, to give Jeff time to wake up from his black-out. Gene offers Jeff the chance of a lifetime: to see the inside of the game from where all pleasure and self-actualisation is derived. This keys up the emotional heart of the episode (maybe even the series itself), as Gene is forced to stall for time and goes deep inside himself for material. Utilising a mother in a mobility scooter, a mountain of mnemonics and an irresistible cinnamon swirl, it showed that Gene Takavic still has what it takes to play the game, even if he’s missing so much else.

Exciting and tragic, this episode offers fun heist elements for most of its runtime, while telling a tragic story of man now known as Gene Takovic. For. Answers ...

She believes Gene to be a good influence, but Gene knows better and feels the remorse. She explains to Gene that Jeffy has had issues in the past in Albuquerque thanks to bad influences. At lunch, he goes to check out the department store he just knocked off. Mike is a proud, sarcastic nerd with a penchant for comic books, comic book movies, and movies in general, and occasional delusions of grandeur. Jeffy sneaks out of the bathroom after staying all night and leaves freely. Taking advantage of the trust Frank has instilled in him to divert his attention by fake crying and saying his life doesn't matter. So Gene goes home and takes out something we haven’t seen in a while: the ring of Marko. He’s about to do something not good. The next phase involves fully mapping out the department store, measuring each step to the each group of valuable merchandise. He slowly befriends the security staff of Nick (Nathaniel Augustson) and Frank (Jim O’Heir) with free Cinnabons and sports talk. It works; Jeffy manages to get up, get the merch and get out of plain sight. The man, Jeffy (Pat Healy), comes home to see Gene making nice with poor oblivious Marion. The legendary Burnett doesn’t get much else to do this episode, which was disappointing. After the past three episodes, it's hard to top what may have been the greatest three hours this show has seen.

When Jimmy heads outside to take out the trash, it turns out Jeffie and Jimmy know each other. Jeffie threatens to give him up to the police as “Saul Goodman,” ...

He tells both men that they are not friends and forces them to say, “we’re done” — this is a “one-time thing.” But then, Marion asks Jimmy for more of his company, and he cannot get out of it. The box that Jeffie was in is now full of clothes, which is picked up. Jimmy offers to help get rid of the cargo in “four hours.” Getting impatient, the store manager offers to hold the box overnight. As Frank is about to turn around and look at the CCTV footage, Jimmy pretends to have an emotional breakdown, stating he has no one and that if he died, not a single person would care. Jeffie is nervous about the plans to steal from the mall. He texts Jeffie, asking him to start the robbery. The next day, as part of Jimmy’s plans, cargo is delivered to one of the retail stores, but the store manager is not happy with the delivery — it’s a spray system, and she makes it clear that they do not sell them kind of items and asks for it to be returned. There’s only a 3-minute window — the window where Frank eats his Cinnabon dessert and doesn’t look at the footage. Jeffie threatens to give him up to the police as “Saul Goodman,” but Jimmy tells him he can place him in “the game” for a better life. After the timelines join up in the last episode, chapter 10 sees Jimmy enjoying his miserable new life working at Cinnabon at the mall. Jimmy heads inside Marion’s home for a drink and meets Marion’s son Jeffie, who seems nervous and apprehensive. She makes her way home in her mobility scooter but gets stuck on the ice.

This week's Better Call Saul episode was shot entirely in black and white. It's the first time we've seen Omaha's best Cinnabon manager Gene Takovic since ...

So Gene now has the leverage to make sure Jeff keeps his mouth shut about his true identity. He hands out the desserts to the guys, Nick leaves for his patrols, and Frank gets ready to devour his cinnamon bun. He stumbles his way out of the store, drops the merchandise in the wooden crate to be picked up in the morning, and then runs to the men’s room to wait until the mall opens. We then see Gene with Jeff and Jeff’s associate in a snowy field in the middle of nowhere, where Gene has created a mock up of the department store floor. Frank is concerned for (and also confused by) his friend, and he tries to talk him down. Later, we see Gene repeat his late-night routine of throwing out the restaurant trash and heading upstairs to the security office. After dinner, Gene and Jeff walk outside to throw away the trash. On his way home from the hospital that night, his cab driver Jeff recognized him as Saul Goodman from Albuquerque. And while Gene is on his lunch break on his first day back from his leave, Jeff spots him at the mall. When he enters the kitchen, he is shocked to see his mother Marion sitting at the table with Saul Goodman. Marion explains to her son who Gene is and how they met. He invites Gene to join him and offers him some coffee. Marion tells Jeff to sit down for dinner and that Gene will be joining them. It’s the first time we’ve seen Omaha’s best Cinnabon manager Gene Takovic since the season 5 premiere, and it’s the only time we’ve ever had an entire episode dedicated to Saul Goodman’s post-Breaking Bad life.

So the events in episode 10 of Better Call Saul season 6 pick up after the brief depiction of this timeline in season 4 episode 1.

Jeff is able to get up again, plow the loot in the crate, and hide in the bathroom. Jeff is alert to the notification by Gene to start the robbery. Frank’s bun is almost finished and he is about to turn. Gene picks up and he is off with his gift of the gab. Gene goes up to Frank and the usual takes place. He promises flowers and gratitude to Kathy the next day for letting him keep the box overnight. And the entirety of the episode is set up to show how Gene stages the con in the mall. On the day of the robbery, the plan is set. Frank is an avid baseball fan and Gene isn’t. Still, he regularly reads the papers, pens down the names of his favorite team, and regularly follows the score to elongate Frank’s time with him. Kathy, the manager of the departmental store, immediately calls the supervisor to confirm the shipment. Nic leaves and Frank sits down with Gene. Frank’s back is to the screens – while he eats the bun and that is the play. Gene packs up the store and being the manager, leaves at the last.
