Rashford held the ball on the left, waited for Luke Shaw's overlapping run and Sancho volleyed in the cross from six yards out. Jadon Sancho's third strike of the summer and a Matty Cash own goal had put United 2-0 up at half-time. It looked like only being a consolation for Villa after a largely uneventful second half but in the second minute of stoppage time Chambers got up highest to head in a corner from the right.

Ten Hag's men led 2-0 at the break, through Jadon Sancho and an own-goal by Matty Cash, but Leon Bailey pulled one back before Chambers headed in from a corner.

But, in the end, we have to control the game and that’s what we didn’t do." I would say also, at the end, a setback, but it’s also part of the season, a season is not always going up, you also have to have setbacks and have to deal with it. Manchester United frustrated as Aston Villa's Calum Chambers ... (The Guardian)

A goal from an added-time corner gave Aston Villa a 2-2 friendly draw from 2-0 down against Manchester United in a soggy Perth.

The weather had come close to forcing a postponement and the danger of injury was obvious. Sancho drifted along the right and popped the ball in. Ten Hag said: “Football is a sport of mistakes and we have to decrease the mistakes. United’s No 1 dived and missed the ball but it blazed wide of his right post. We have to get out of the dressing room and back in our plan [after half-time] and that is what we didn’t do.” “That’s what I just said in the dressing room,” said the manager.

New coach makes his mark; Ronaldo crisis drags on: Man Utd ... (Fox Sports)

New Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag kicked off his reign with three wins and a draw on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia.

“Don’t be late for the meetings, don’t be late for the meals. Ronaldo wants out of the club. But Ten Hag swiftly put that to bed by handing the experienced international centre-back the armband for their pre-season tour and saying that he would remain the club captain beyond that. “We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it and I’m looking forward to working with him,” the new boss said in Thailand. But Ten Hag said he had spoken to the unsettled superstar striker and insisted he was “not for sale”. He failed to report for pre-season training at the club’s Carrington training complex and missed their tour due to a “family issue”.

What we learned from the Villa draw (Manchester United)

Weather drama, another sweeping team goal & game-time for Garner were among the things to catch our eye.

It was a frustrating way to end the tour, but it's still been a highly fruitful fortnight and all attention now turns to next Saturday, when we take on Atletico Madrid in Oslo. The Jamaica international rounded De Gea and looked set to slot the ball home, only for Maguire to slide in and block the ball with his midriff. During Friday’s press conference, Erik said that he still wanted to have a look at James Garner, with the young midfielder missing the first three games of pre-season due to injury. Harry Maguire received a brilliant reception from fans at our open training session on Thursday, and he was also cheered by all but the small pocket of Aston Villa supporters when his name was read out prior to the game. Steven Gerrard’s side then enjoyed their best spell of the match, twice going close as the Reds sought to regain our grip on the encounter. Once again, Ten Hag resisted the temptation to make wholesale changes, with van de Beek one of just two alterations made to the side which beat Palace. Luke Shaw replaced Tyrell Malacia at left-back but otherwise it seems as though Erik ten Hag was reluctant to tweak a winning team.

Manchester United on tour: Ten Hag discipline, a settled team and ... (The Athletic)

Ten Hag dropped a player for being late but standards have been raised on Manchester United's tour of Thailand and Australia...

McClaren held the fort with the fans and encouraged Ten Hag to join him, which he did heartily. Despite his 27 years of coaching, he takes his lead from the manager and has given energy to overseeing the fringe group. But there were more jeering murmurs at the Optus Stadium for the game when he was announced. Two games in 24 hours this weekend allows Ten Hag to broaden his selections and doubles the chance to field new signings Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen. It has been noticeable how much he has Ten Hag’s ear and he provides good communication across all the backroom teams. Ten Hag has wanted to build momentum for a settled line-up, so some players barely featured and Alejandro Garnacho did not get off the bench at all. Ten Hag had been planning to use him in a game but dropped him by way of punishment, a reminder to everyone in the squad that punctuality is important. Ten Hag does not just criticise the younger members of his squad, though. Details were signed off before Ten Hag was appointed but he is said to have been satisfied with what was in place. He brought players back from holiday a week early to start instilling his proactive playing style at Carrington and had several days of double sessions abroad. Ten Hag sees tardiness as a symptom of slipping standards which if unchecked can bleed into other aspects of a footballer’s job on the pitch. As Jurgen Klopp was fielding questions from reporters after Liverpool’s defeat at the Rajamangala Stadium, Ten Hag was already on the team bus assessing next steps with assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.
