MAGPIE MAGIC: Elliott's post-siren goal makes NINTH straight win most epic yet.

But Jones ‘shot hit the post as Collingwood got one last roll of the dice for victory from a kick in, with the Pies going coast to coast as Elliott marked the ball from 40m out on the boundary line. Guelfi continued the Bombers’ charge in the fourth quarter with the opening major of the term to take a 20-point lead. Kyle Langford booted the next goal for the Bombers to give them their first lead of the contest in a stunning turnaround, while Draper brought the house down after a banana goal before celebrating appropriately, with Nicholson noting they was in “total control.” But the Bombers responded in the second quarter through the first two majors to Peter Wright and Harry Jones to bring it back to a 24-point game. Essendon picked up where it left off to open the second half, with Wright missing a set shot before Nic Martin nailed his opportunity to bring it back to a seven-point game, while Sam Draper continued to assert his presence around the ground in a strong showing from the Bombers ruckman. Collingwood has fought back at the death to defeat Essendon in an MCG thriller thanks to a Jamie Elliott goal after the siren for its ninth-straight win to climb into the top four

Essendon suffer injury blow after in-form defender Mason Redman's ... (Zero Hanger)

Essendon defender Mason Redman had had his evening end early after a heavy fall during the first half of Saturday's clash with Collingwood.

Redman suffered the ailment in a heavy collision with Magpies forward Brody Mihocek, with a decision by the Bombers seemingly made at the main break. Redman recorded 10 disposals and 2 tackles before being replaced by medical sub Brayden Ham for the second half. The diagnosis - assuming no delayed concussion symptoms arise - will mean Redman will be free to play next weekend against North Melbourne should he be deemed fit.

Moments later McGovern flew into a pack to contest a mark and was hurt, spending the last few minutes of the first half hunched over. Toby Greene could have put GWS in front midway through the third quarter but failed to score with an around-the-corner kick after marking 30 metres from goal on a slight angle. The only downside for Collingwood was a shoulder injury to Brayden Maynard, with the ace defender subbed out early in the last quarter. The Blues led by just three points at half-time but put a break on the visitors during the third term and pulled clear for a 13.12 (90) to 8.6 (54) victory at Docklands. After flying out of the blocks with the first six goals to lead by 37 points at quarter-time, Collingwood conceded 11 of the next 13 to Essendon as the Bombers grabbed a 21-point buffer in the final term. Jamie Elliott has kicked Collingwood into the AFL's top-four after nailing a difficult after-the-siren goal to defeat Essendon in a four-point thriller.

That was unbelievable." Harrison Jones had a chance to seal the game for Essendon with less than a minute on the clock, but a set shot hit the post and Collingwood hurtled back down the field. Collingwood v Essendon - The Big Questions - The Mongrel Punt (The Mongrel Punt)

Now, THAT was a game of footy! The Pies triumphed on the last kick of the day from Jamie Elliott to knock over the Bombers in Round 19.

He is a good overhead mark, but as the third marking forward, he is much better served getting on his bike and leading. And he had a really unfortunate stain on his backside for most of the game, which seemed to amuse Mrs Mongrel for some reason. Truth be told, he seemed a bit lost in this one after the first free kick was not paid. But he was the one making the play in an outnumber and winning the footy. In the first quarter of this one, Mason Redman absolutely clocked Jack Ginnivan with a blatant head-high tackle that was not called. He had the better of both Mason Cox and Darcy Cameron around the ground, with Craig McRae opting to play the Big Texan as the number one ruck and Cameron more up forward. Sports psychologists are paid a decent salary these days, and I reckon the one contracted to the Bombers will be earning his money as he talks through this moment with Jones over the next little while. With a wave of red and black crashing down around him, he had multiple possessions through the guts, drawing opponents to him like moths to a flame. Put the “brakes on Daics” and the game suddenly becomes a little harder to navigate for the Pies. Really, all that was lacking was an extra 20K in the house, as this contest deserved a full house at the MCG. The shot from Jones had a date with the woodwork, gifting the Pies one last chance to go coast-to-coast. As the teams jockeyed for position down the stretch, it was the Bombers looking like they would pull away, and when Harrison Jones dragged down Jeremy Howe inside fifty to draw a holding-the-ball free kick with a minute left, it looked as though Essendon had done enough.
