Dogs' No.1 pick EXPLODES as finals race blown wide-open: The 3-2-1.

Incredibly, Macrae would finish with 29 disposals, the equal-most of anyone on the ground, in a testament to his workrate and the Dogs’ refusal to wilt. Much of the match seemed to swing along with the momentum in the middle of the ground. He finished with five goals and five score involvements from his 10 disposals, including the sealer from long-range in the dying seconds to the jubilation of Dogs fans and teammates. It was dubbed a “heavyweight title fight in the middle of the ground” by Jonathan Brown and it more than lived up to its billing. The Dees toiled and threatened to get back in front, but Ugle-Hagan’s fifth goal of the night was his best yet, coming from the 50-metre arc and ending any hopes of a Dees comeback. The number one draft pick in 2020, it must at times have felt as though the weight of the world was on his shoulders as he struggled to solidify a spot in the senior lineup and perform consistently at AFL level. While Kysaiah Pickett responded for the Dees, Ugle-Hagan and the Dogs would not be denied, with Ugle-Hagan kicking his fourth goal of the evening to make it a career-high haul. Weideman booted his third goal of the evening before the close of the third term to give the Dees a 13-point lead at the final change. Luke Jackson was next to add to the run of Dees goals, then Fritsch kicked his fourth goal of the opening half to make it a 27-point margin. Aaron Naughton finished brilliantly out of traffic to bring the Dogs within one point, but the Dees kicked a quick goal out of stoppage to stem the bleeding. Melbourne looked in charge for large portions of the opening half, but the Dogs refused to wilt, helped by a career-best performance from Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, going ahead in the dying stages of the final term and hanging on for the win. Bayley Fritsch put the Dees ahead by nine points late in the first term, before a goal after the quarter-time siren put the Dees up by 15 at the first change.

Western Bulldogs score upset win over AFL premiers Melbourne as ... (ABC News)

In Saturday's other matches, the Brisbane Lions got home by 17 points in a tense QClash against the Gold Coast Suns, Geelong defeated Port Adelaide by two goals ...

But the Cats rallied with four goals to one in a tense last term. The Power led by seven points at three quarter-time after Dixon's brilliant quarter. Hawthorn racked up a 49-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Kangaroos clawed back some momentum by winning the second term with two goals to the Hawks' single major. Small forward Ned McHenry had an opportunity to cut the margin to 15 points when the Crows had all the momentum in the third term as he sprinted toward an open goal with ball in hand, but Nick Blakey dived to smother the kick and rush it through for a behind. The in-form Swans (12-6) have now won three consecutive matches for just the second time this season and with a favourable run home are well-placed to claim a double chance in the finals. The Swans stormed to an eight-goal lead early in the second term but had to withstand a brave Crows comeback until steadying late to finish with a 17.16 (118) to 12.13 (85) victory on Saturday. But Geelong spearhead Cameron slotted his third goal just 13 seconds into the last quarter and the Cats finished with a Hawkins flourish to bank their 14th win of the season. Oscar McInerney's fine finish made it four in a row for the quarter as the Lions took a stranglehold on the contest before Cameron added the gloss with his third of the night to ice the win. Trailing at the end of the second and third quarters, the Lions kicked five goals in the fourth term to claim a hard-fought 16.14 (110) to 14.9 (93) win. Dixon scored two goals and took five marks in the quarter to revive the Power, who were well-served by Mitch Georgiades (three goals), Sam Powell-Pepper (19 disposals, two goals) and Karl Amon (25 disposals, one goal). The Demons led at every change, and by as many as 27 points, but the Bulldogs had more run in the final term with five goals to one. It was all Suns after that, with the visitors kicking three unanswered including one to David Swallow in his record-breaking 193rd appearance for the club to hit the front for the first time in the match.

Bulldogs stun Demons in AFL GF rematch (The West Australian)

The Western Bulldogs have charged home to stun reigning premiers Melbourne by 10 points in an enthralling AFL grand final rematch at Marvel Stadium.

"It was a typical game against the Western Bulldogs, it had momentum swings all the way throughout the night ... and they were able to lock us in that third quarter." After starting their premiership defence with 10 straight victories, Melbourne have lost five of their last eight to be in danger of finishing outside of the top-two. Superstar defender Steven May had an outstanding game but made a critical mistake in the last quarter that led to an important Bulldogs goal. Melbourne led at every change, and by as many as 27 points, but the Bulldogs had more run in the final term with five goals to one. "It's a really good platform for the future to win a game like that and I think many of our people were a bit emotional." "We haven't had a win like that for a while and it's a testament to their perseverance, to be so far down against a team, along with Geelong, who are probably the benchmark of the competition," Beveridge said.

Dogs get some Grand Final revenge, keep season alive (AFL)

A CAREER-HIGH five goals from former No.1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has steered the Western Bulldogs to a thrilling 10-point win over reigning premier ...

Starting his career in the Ovens and Murray league in country Victoria, Mollison graduated to the VFL before making his AFL debut in 2008. Ben Brown's absence (knee) gave Sam Weideman another opportunity to prove he belongs at the top level, and his composure in crucial moments would have had coach Simon Goodwin beaming. It's difficult to pick a winner in the ruck duel, with Tim English performing very well around the ground against Max Gawn and Luke Jackson – the Demon pairing having game-breaking moments of their own. The highlight came off the boot of Tim English from 50m on the run, cutting the margin to just seven points. We literally can't have a game without umpires, and field whistleblower Jacob Mollison recorded his 300th AFL match on Saturday night. After some early dominance from the Bulldogs, the Demons finished the first term with a rush, piling on four straight goals (and the first of the second quarter), including two from inclusion Sam Weideman.

Dogs No. 1 pick keeps season alive (NEWS.com.au)

The Western Bulldogs' season is alive and kicking after its No. 1 draft pick came of age in spectacular fashion against the Demons. Marc McGowan. 3 min read.

The 30-year-old ex-Bomber had more tackles (seven) than touches (six) last week, but was sharp early in this one and more than did enough to maintain his spot. Bayley Fritsch starred with four goals but Weideman, who came in for the injured Brown, added three and Jake Melksham and Kozzy Pickett helped themselves to two apiece in a balanced attack. The 20-year-old, who has copped his share of criticism already for on- and off-field matters, kicked multiple goals only twice in his first 15 career games and had only seven in 10 matches to start this year. Bailey Smith and Riley Garcia combined to put the Bulldogs in front for good, with the moment also seeing the Dees concede 100 points for the first time in three years, in this exact round in 2019. But the Dogs kicked five of the next six goals either side of the main break to slash the deficit and eventually chased down Melbourne in sensational fashion. In a classic encounter with wild swings of momentum from the first siren, the Demons shot out to a game-high 27-point lead shortly before halftime.

Ugle-Hagan comes of age to lead Bulldogs to victory (The Age)

In a pulsating game the Bulldogs hit the front with less than five minutes remaining as Jamarra Ugle-Hagan kicked five goals to lead them to victory over ...

But they did not give up and deserved the win as their desperation was inspirational. The Bulldogs crowd went berserk as their finals hopes are alive and they are capable of beating anyone. The Bulldogs did not give up and came out after half-time with spirit and fight to rush Melbourne each time they tried to dispose of the ball and locked the ball in their forward half. It happened after the Bulldogs made a good start in the first quarter but lost their hard-won ascendancy as the Demons kicked the final four goals of the quarter. It was deflating for the opposition and uplifting for the Demons, who know it took them to a premiership in 2021 and might well take them to another flag this season. When they were in trouble with the opposition about to challenge, their centre bounce four steeled themselves to win the clearance and score to regain control.
