John Wick 4 was originally slated to arrive in theaters in May 2022, but delays pushed its release date to March 24, 2023. The John Wick 4 teaser, which amounted to roughly a minute of brand-new footage, showcased Wick training and beating up a wide variety of bad guys, including an epic shot of him using the nunchucks featured on the poster that was also revealed tonight. In addition to the new footage, fans also got to see the first poster, which features Keanu Reeves front and center with nunchucks.

Fans who attended the panel got a major surprise, as Keanu Reeves arrived with the poster! With nearly a year before its March 2023 release, fans have plenty of time to speculate about John Wick 4's unclear details and unanswered questions. "More of the High Table, the kind of intricacies of that authority structure is revealed," the actor said during an interview with Collider in January. "I am in a couple of scenes that you could argue are action scenes, I suppose. Although plot details remain under wraps, the action sequel will likely occur after the events depicted in John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum. In that film, Wick teams up with The Bowery King to get revenge on The High Table after being shot and left for dead by Winston to appease the group.

John Wick: Chapter 4 sees Keanu Reeves' assassin waging war on the High Table, and we now have a taste of that with the first trailer.

Ok, now to the John Wick: Chapter 4 trailer itself. Remember that at the end of John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, John was rescued by Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King, and together the two agreed that it was time for The High Table to pay for everything they’d done to the two of them. Along with premiering the Chapter 4 trailer, Stahelski and Reeves said that the Lionsgate movie takes place in five locations: Japan, America, France, Germany and Jordan.

The villain of 1971’s Godzilla Versus Hedorah feels straight out of a ‘50s Hollywood creature-feature, given this strange kaijū landed on Earth by way of a comet. And the monster’s triphibian attributes — it swims, it flies, it walks! Those first meetings with the antagonist are nothing short of horror trends later found in Jaws and its imitators. But unlike the titular alien in The Blob, Hedorah feeds on industrial pollution as opposed to humans. After coming up against Mothra, Ghidorah and King Kong, Godzilla was primed and ready to take on the most challenging enemy in his career so far — pollution.

I’m not entirely sure how vacation time works in the complicated world of assassins. But it also raises an important question: where does all of this finally end? John Wick 4 — which, according to the trailer, appears to be titled simply “John Wick” — is due to hit theaters on March 24th, 2023.

John Wick: Chapter 2 was a classic breakout sequel, opening amid a crowded February in 2017 (on the same weekend as The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker) with $30 million before legging out to $92 million domestic and $172 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. It still “only” rose 58% domestic and 62% worldwide from The Winter Soldier ($259 million/$714 million). John Wick: Chapter 3, obviously working with smaller grosses, jumped 86% domestic and 87% worldwide without a penny from China. Back in 2019, I wondered aloud whether John Wick: Chapter 4, which in a non-Covid world would have opened in the same mid-May slot in 2021, might take a massive overseas upswing as we saw with Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, Jason Bourne and Fast & Furious (all “part four” in their respective character-specific franchises) while keeping domestic strength. March is ridiculously crowded as at least three of these biggies (John Wick 4, Aquaman 2 and Creed 3) were supposed to open elsewhere in 2022. John Wick debuted in late October of 2014 with a surprisingly strong $14 million debut before earning $43 million domestic and $88 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. It also kept chugging to $171 million domestic and $323 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. My wife is out of town with the oldest.

A prequel miniseries, “The Continental,” is coming to Starz. Mel Gibson was cast in the lead role as the character Cormac. “John Wick” became a huge action franchise for Lionsgate, not just in its global franchise B.O. through three movies of $584.2 million. While they may have thought the beloved actor was simply paying a visit, the “John Wick” hero actually came will a treat for fans of the movie.

John Wick 4 is scheduled for a March 2023 release date, and the action franchise sequel has a sprawling cast featured in the first trailer dropped at SDCC.

There are multiple fight scenes featuring Yen previewed in the clip — one where he and Reeves fight with both a gun and a sword, and one where he and Sanada have a swordfight. In the trailer, we see glimpses of Skarsgård’s character, but it is of course Yen and Sanada who steal the show. What are the chances the fourth movie in the franchise is any good?

A key scene in Parabellum depicted a training school for young girls, similar to the one where John Wick was raised, involving intense ballet training. In the ensuing parley with the Adjuticator, Winston declared fealty to the High Table and shot John, who tumbled off the rooftop to the ground. Of course he succeeds—he's John Wick—but the client, Italian crime lord Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), tries to cover his tracks by posting a bounty on Wick's head. In John Wick: Chapter Two, Wick takes on a whole slew of Russian baddies but finds himself honor-bound (per the professional hitman's code) to go on one last assignment. The first John Wick grossed more than $88 million worldwide for a film that cost around $30 million to make, and it was praised for its brisk pace, heart-stopping action sequences, and stylish noir feel. As I've written previously, for the benefit of those who missed the first three movies, John Wick (Reeves) is a legendary hitman (known as the Boogeyman or "Baba Yaga") who tried to retire when he fell in love and got married.

The trailer follows this up with the familiar faces of Lance Reddick as Continental Hotel concierge Charon and Ian McShane as the manager Winston. When we last saw McShane in John Wick 3, he was vowing eternal loyalty to the high table, so we will have to see whether he is friend or foe (or something in between) to Keanu Reeves in John Wick 4. In just over a minute of footage, we see Keanu Reeves be as awesome as audiences could possibly want in John Wick 4. Even better for us, Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski just unveiled the first trailer for John Wick 4 at San Diego Comic-Con in all its gory glory.

But all of that is set to change, apparently, as Reeves and director Chad Stahleski reunite this week to run Baba Yaga through the gauntlet all over again. But we’ll have to, since John Wick 4, again, just started filming, and isn’t slated to hit theaters until March 2023. John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently barreling toward a March 24, 2023 release date.
