It stars Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy as his royal rival Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. And while it doesn’t look like any dragons were harmed in the making of the trailer or the show, it sure looks like a few super blond wigs should have lost their lives.
With just a month to go, more details are emerging on arguably the most anticipated new TV series of the year.
One of the only people on Earth to have seen House of the Dragon is George RR Martin himself, who wrote online: “Those of you who like complex, conflicted, grey characters (as I do) will like this series, I think. Put simply, if you’re excited about House of the Dragon, then remember this feeling. This is one of the most interesting aspects of the whole shebang. Taking place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will see the Targaryens in full pomp, although judging by nudges and hints from those in the know, this might not last for the entire duration of the series. And these challenges might explain why the House of the Dragon press onslaught has already begun. House of the Dragon is now one month away, and to say that it has an uphill struggle ahead of it is an understatement.
HBO's Game Of Thrones prequel (and so many blonde wigs) are coming.
A character says, “Knives will come out,” and the next shot is of Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) being threatened with a knife. A voiceover reminds us that “your family has dragons” over footage of a scorched field. A different character proclaims, “War is afoot” over a shot of two factions squaring off to battle. Reminiscent of the thematically appropriate instrumental covers he became known for in his second HBO outing, this trailer features Djawadi’s orchestra-heavy cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Venus In Furs.” It’s a bit of an obvious choice, as the mashup literally features beautiful women wearing furs. The budget is enormous (seriously, the dragons looks amazing). And the battles are as muddy as ever. While we all know that no one has a better story than Bran the Broken (sigh), it is actually quite nice to revisit this world with a completely new cast of characters that a certain showrunning duo won’t have a chance to get their grubby hands on.

Netflix is holding a virtual fan convention, Tudum, also in September. Marvel’s Hall H panel, meanwhile, will likely include new information on plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Phase Four” films. Paramount’s Star Trek franchise also lands in Hall H with its two big live-action series for 2022 – Picard and Strange New Worlds – already wrapped and aired. Inside the convention centre, the brands that matter most will command their own panels at the centre’s famous Hall H which seats about 6100 people. But in a reflection of a broader industry shift, streaming television has overtaken movie marketing as the engine powering the annual pop culture convention.

Rhaenyra is her own person who was born into this time of extreme power, wealth, and decadence whereas Daenerys was born a pauper because this dynasty fell—largely as a result of events in this story.” “It is very much a story about a patriarchy told through the point-of-view of two women.” This begins with the day Viserys names his firstborn daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock in her youth, Emma D’Arcy later) as his heir, even as he’s urged to take a second wife in hopes of producing a son. [Daemon] is similarly a bit of a rogue prince trying to find his footing and place in this world.” Whereas Game of Thrones began in the 17th uneasy year of Robert Baratheon’s reign, House of the Dragon picks up 105 years after Aegon Targaryen I conquered Westeros and founded King’s Landing. It is there we’ll be introduced to a host of Targaryens of various political ambitions and a whole palace of new courtiers. “The trick with this story is it’s multi-generational,” Condal says. He’s the second fiddle, in that case to the Queen of England, his own wife, and is a bit adrift. Yet there’s an undeniable excitement in Condal’s voice while discussing the new show; he’s eager for fans to discover a different era of Westeros, one set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. “This is just a very decadent time,” Condal says. He first read the earliest books after the third novel A Storm of Swords was published in 2000, discovering the saga while fresh out of college. The two became acquainted in 2012, and Martin seemed eager to get Condal into Westeros ever since. “I thought we were just getting together socially,” Condal recalls in 2022, “but he said, ‘I need you to write a pilot for me.

And I placed my heir upon the Iron Throne, and all the dragons roared as one." But this is Westeros, so there are others scheming for the Iron Throne, most notably Ser Otto Hightower, Hand of the King—whose daughter Alicent becomes the king's second wife and wants her son Aegon to be the heir—and Prince Daemon Targaryen, the king's younger brother. But it's the dragons, always a fan favorite, who dominate the new trailer. The final two sections of Fire and Blood deal with the fallout of that crisis and serve as the primary source material for House of the Dragon. Sapochnik directed the pilot and several other episodes. Those events culminated in a civil war and the extinction of the dragons—at least until Daenerys Targaryen came along two centuries later.

HBO has released the first trailer for 'House of the Dragon,' the 'Game of Thrones' prequel series debuting in August.
While there are other Westeros-related series in development, “House of the Dragon” is the only confirmed “Game of Thrones” spinoff show — so far. The war pits Westeros’ great houses — including the Lannisters and Starks — against each other, resulting in the death of House Targaryen’s most powerful dragons. Based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” “House of the Dragon” will follow the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war between siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra, who fought for the throne after the death of their father.

The trailer for 'House of the Dragon' is here and boy oh boy did I only have eyes for Matt Smith.
House of the Dragon finally hits HBO this August, and to be quite honest, I don’t know how I am going to survive. He works so well in these out-of-this-world roles, and while I do wish that he’d come back as the Doctor again, I’m happy to see him shine in House of the Dragon. Smith has become a household name from his time on Doctor Who. As the Eleventh Doctor, Smith went from a smaller TV star to a worldwide phenomenon and one of the loves of my life.
