'Never seen a statement like that': Agent's bombshell on Lakers star's future after shock split.

Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired. And even then, such a trade may require Russell to immediately move on from the new team via buyout. I also supported Russell throughout his rise into a prominent fashion industry figure and recently orchestrated three successive trades on Russell’s behalf -- culminating with the trade to his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.

Russell Westbrook, longtime agent Thad Foucher parting ways over ... (ESPN)

Thad Foucher suggested that he and Russell Westbrook were no longer fully aligned over whether the former MVP should want to remain with the Lakers.

Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired. Westbrook has been the subject of significant trade discussion after an uneven debut season with the Lakers a year ago. As Westbrook, 33, enters the final season of a five-year maximum deal, his standing with the Lakers is uncertain.

Russell Westbrook wants to leave the Lakers so bad that his agent quit (Silver Screen and Roll)

Russell Westbrook wants the Lakers to trade him. If that wasn't obvious before, it's been made crystal clear by his now-former agent, Thad Foucher, ...

then that makes it pretty clear that Westbrook is pushing hard to leave the Lakers. It is unclear why Foucher chose to go public like this, or whether he quit or was fired, but when Westbrook and LeBron James couldn’t even pretend to be cordial at a nationally televised summer league game last week, it was fairly obvious that neither wanted to continue together. Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired. And even then, such a trade may require Russell to immediately move on from the new team via buyout. In and of itself, none of the above would be notable. Lakers News: Russell Westbrook & Agent Part Ways Over ... (LakersNation.com)

Los Angeles Lakers star Russell Westbrook and his agent Thad Foucher have agreed to part ways due to 'irreconcilable differences.'

It would be interesting to know whether this was a recent change-of-heart for Westbrook as he has been professional and supportive of the organization all offseason, even attending Ham’s introductory press conference. Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired. In a perfect world, the Lakers will be able to trade Westbrook and draft picks for Irving. But if this compels them to cast a wider net in possible deals? If Westbrook wants out of Los Angeles badly enough to separate from an agent who thinks he should stay there, then perhaps that sends a message to the Lakers that keeping him would be foolish. After the news of the split between Westbrook and Foucher came out, Rich Paul, who represents James and several other Laker players, tweeted "it's a cold game!" We're gonna sacrifice whatever we have to do, and it's not just Russ. There's gonna be sacrifices LeBron has to make, that A.D. has to make, all the way down the line of the rest of our roster." Lakers' Russell Westbrook splits with agent Thad Foucher (Los Angeles Times)

Russell Westbrook is no longer working with his longtime agent, Thad Foucher, but the split had 'nothing to do with the Lakers,' according to sources.

“My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell’s value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers, embrace the starting role and support that Darvin Ham publicly offered. And even then, such a trade may require Russell to immediately move on from the new team via buyout,” Foucher said in the statement. He attended the Lakers’ summer league opener in Las Vegas, but he and LeBron James, who was also there, didn’t speak — a stark contrast to their time together last summer. “And there is still a ton left in that tank. Earlier this offseason, he opted in to the final year of his contract, which will pay him $47 million this coming season. “Don’t get it messed up.

Russell Westbrook Parts Ways with Agent; Lakers Trade Coming ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Dallas Mavericks have been connected to a number of different players around the league in NBA trade rumors and speculation this year.

In 2019, the Miami Heat nearly gave Dragic to the Mavs on a silver platter in a trade, but conflicting interests in the former Dallas front office led to the trade falling through. Sam Amico of HoopsWire reports that the Mavs could be in the mix for Sexton if Brunson does indeed leave for New York. Sexton only played 11 games for the Cavs in the 2021-22 season due to a torn meniscus. With the Brooklyn Nets potentially on the verge of falling apart, Kyrie Irving is already starting to think about his next destination. Given that the Mavs might have more trouble re-signing Jalen Brunson than what was initially believed, could a swap of the two point guards make some sense for both sides? However, the way he departed Dallas is sure to leave a bad taste in many fans and front office figures' mouths. If he decides to leave, the Mavs must pivot to other options quickly. After the Mavs beat the Jazz in the first round of the playoffs, everyone expected Utah to blow things up. On Wednesday, a report surfaces saying that Brunson would hold meetings with the Knicks, Mavs and Heat. Miami media adamantly denied that claim, saying the Heat never even had a meeting scheduled. Can the Mavs get in on the fire sale? It’s a statement about the value of a gay person. It’s a statement about the value of a black person. Dirk Nowitzki, who was sitting courtside with his family, didn’t pass up the opportunity to tease Doncic by joining in on those chants.

Pelicans vs. Lakers Preview: Summer League Title Shot On The Line (Sports Illustrated)

The New Orleans Pelicans can clinch an NBA Summer League title shot with a win over the Los Angeles Lakers and a little help.

This New Orleans Pelicans roster can make a lifelong memory by playing like there is no tomorrow against the Lakers. A win all but assures a postseason that matters and it also ends the schedule on a sour note for the Lakers. The Pelicans just need a win that is at least within two points of the Suns, if Phoenix can topple the Sacramento Kings. Five different Pelicans had more than 10 points and 9 of the 10 players to get court time dished out at least one assist in the 106-88 win over the Washington Wizards. The North Carolina State product can shake off the rust with the security of a two-way contract. Daeqwon Plowden is a game-time decision after spraining his ankle but the team is optimistic the Bowling Green product will suit up.

Summer League Recap: Lakers Spoil Pelicans' NBA 2K23 Summer ... (LakersNation.com)

The Los Angeles Lakers spoiled the New Orleans Pelicans' chance to play in the NBA 2K23 Summer League Championship.

The Pelicans made a last-gasp effort to climb back into it as they pushed the pace and got it to within eight. Javante McCoy kept the Lakers comfortably ahead with an and-one opportunity and an above-the-break three, putting them up 13. Like the first half, the Laker bench allowed the Pelicans to creep back in as their outside shooting made it a single-digit game before Huff halted the momentum.

Cole Swider stays hot from beyond the arc as Los Angeles eliminates New Orleans from Summer League championship contention.

John Petty Jr. furnished 16 points with six rebounds and six assists, while Tyrique Jones generated an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double that included four assists, one steal and one block. Scotty Pippen, Jr. delivered 11 points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals. Jared Harper paced the Pelicans with 20 points, supplementing them with four assists, two blocks and one steal.

Lakers vs. Pelicans Final Score: Jay Huff returns to beat New Orleans (Silver Screen and Roll)

The Lakers were led by the team's current and former two-way contract signees Cole Swider and Jay Huff, who combined for 31 points.

On the bright side, though, the purple and gold are on the verge of closing out their annual Summer League tour with a chance at three straight wins in a row. Unfortunately, this will be the Lakers’ second to the last game in Las Vegas after failing to qualify for the semi-finals round. Thankfully for them, Huff (who returned to action after being in health and safety protocols), Swider, and Mason Jones spearheaded a 15-4 run to start the second quarter to tie the game.

Lakers Play Spoiler in Win Over Pelicans (Lakers.com)

On the second to last night of Summer League play, the Lakers picked up the 102-94 win over the Pelicans Friday night in Las Vegas.

For the Lakers, a letdown in the second of their last three games (led by 15 vs Charlotte on Sunday and lost) was not in the cards tonight. On top of his late free throws (finished 5-of-6 from the line) to seal the win, Javante McCoy finished with 14 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. L.A. quickly erased the deficit with a 9-1 run in the second and tied the game at 28.
