In a dream ending for Neighbours fans, Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue have confirmed that Scott and Charlene return to the street for the show's finale.

That’s the way to put it.” Within a couple of hours, they were gone. According to one source close to the production, news of their visit broke only hours before they turned up to film a handful of scenes. “Firstly, it’s about wrapping up the storylines and the characters in a satisfying way,” he said when this masthead visited the set for the filming of the finale.
Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are set to make their return to the iconic series for its final episode when it broadcasts later this month.
Since their departures, both Minogue and Donovan have discussed returns to the series but have not made any appearances in subsequent episodes. Ultimately, Minogue would leave the series in 1988 to pursue a music career, with Donovan following suit the following year. Famously, both Minogue and Donovan got their respective starts on the show in the mid 1980s as Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson, respectively.

Memento star Guy Pearce, who started his career playing Mike Young in the soap, is also reprising his role for the finale. Their wedding episode was watched by more than 2 million Australian viewers when it first aired in 1987, and later pulled in an audience of almost 20 million when it was shown in the UK in 1988. Donovan, meanwhile, posted a photo of the street sign for Ramsay Street signed by him and his co-star, as well as a snap of the cover of his script.

The former Neighbours stars have been pictured reprising their roles as the soap comes to an end.
"Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them," he said in May. Donovan, who has had several pop hits himself and has starred in West End musicals, shared some of the same images on social media too, writing: "So good to be back with this absolute legend." Minogue, who went on to pop stardom, shared new images on Monday of them both in character on set alongside the caption: "Now we're back together".

Kylie Minogue has reunited with on-screen husband Jason Donovan on the set of Neighbours to film the final episode of Australia's longest running soapie.
“The clip … transports us back in time. “Neighbours achieved longevity in a changing and cut-throat world of free-to-air broadcast and has given a start, training and long-term employment to many writers, directors, producers, actors and crew over 37 years,” wrote former screenwriter for the show Philippa Burn in The Conversation. Neighbours launched the careers of Minogue – who went on to sell 80 million records worldwide and become our biggest musical export, and Donovan – who nurtured a steady musical and stage career including the lead role in the UK production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. There are few hints – significant to some – in the latest photos for the final week, including a ‘For Sale’ sign in one of the houses behind a shot of Minogue and Donovan, a green Mini with the hatch open (she had a yellow one back in the day), with the pair both wearing wedding rings. The NFSA’s Beth Taylor observed it “was clear the show’s producers were aware that this scene would become a part of Australian television history and gave it the attention it deserved”. Two million Australians and almost 20 million viewers in Britain tuned in to ‘Episode 523 of Neighbours’ for the wedding of Scott and Charlene.
