But this is what we worked for,” she said. In the previous matches I had many ups and downs, and today even though I lost some points I was very focused and I am happy with my result,” said Rybakina. Jabeur, Rybakina and a contrast of styles in the Wimbledon final (WTA Tennis)

History says the taller, more powerful player has the advantage in the Wimbledon final. But that might not necessarily hold up Saturday when Ons Jabeur ...

“I really try to focus more on myself, do a lot of slices, try to really make her work hard. “If she plays the final like she did in the semis, it’s hard to see how Jabeur can work her magical feel. I know she can hit really hard and hit a lot of winners.” Seven-time Grand Slam champion Justine Henin was the same height as Barty -- and played a similarly diverse game. And yet, Jabeur has an edge in a number of meaningful service categories. Rybakina has been moving quite well for a six-footer, but Jabeur is more fluid and flexible. So it’s going to be interesting to work, and I will watch it.” But I know it annoys a lot of people, and I’m happy to do that.” “I don’t know [how] Rybakina is going to respond to Jabeur’s game. Saturday’s final between Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur is a classic clash of these two distinct styles. Call it a “Movement” movement. Think Venus Williams, who is listed as 6-foot-1 but plays taller, a five-time champion and master of leveraged geometry.

Crafty Ons Jabeur meets relentless Rybakina in women's ... (The Guardian)

Not long after Wimbledon began this year, it became clear that the greatest obstacle between Ons Jabeur and a first grand slam final was likely to be ...

Against such a great server, the challenge for Jabeur will also be to take care of her own service games. The contrast between the two is stark and Jabeur, 27, will bring her deep toolbox of shots and unpredictable patterns in order to disrupt her opponent’s rigid offence however she can. Even though Rybakina is facing a completely different type of opponent in Jabeur, she will approach the final no differently, looking to attack, shorten points and impose herself. Rybakina wants rallies over as quickly as possible and on her way through the tournament she has done an excellent job of executing her full-power tennis. As she stands at 6ft, the challenge for her opponents is to absorb her first strike and exploit her relative lack of athleticism, whether by forcing her to move or lengthening the points. If she is to lift her first grand slam title, Jabeur will have to unpick a completely different style compared with anything she has faced so far and it will be a formidable challenge.

While Jabeur will face more pressure as the favorite in this match, it's hard to predict how either player will react to playing in a Grand Slam final for the first time.

Wimbledon Women's Final Preview: Ons Jabeur, or Elena Rybakina ... (Tennis Magazine)

This match should be competitive: Jabeur and Rybakina have played two completed matches, each has gone three sets, and each player has won once.

“Rybakina is an aggressive player. Along with that contrast, if the history between these two players is any indication, this match should be competitive. Jabeur does little in a straightforward way; she slices her passes and uses drop shots any time she wants, from wherever she wants. Now, in Jabeur, she’ll face an entirely different method for succeeding on the same surface. The 23-year-old Moscow native didn’t have much of a grass-court season before Wimbledon, but she has looked self-assured from the tournament’s start, when she edged Coco Vandeweghe and Bianca Andreescu in close two-set matches. The first thought that comes to mind when I imagine this final is: If Rybakina wins, are we going to get the least-demonstrative winner’s celebration in Wimbledon history?

ELENA RYBAKINA's run to the Wimbledon final is being celebrated by various Russian news websites, claiming her as their own player.

Back in April, AELTC chairman Ian Hewitt confirmed that Wimbledon did not allow Russian players who signed a declaration condemning Putin and the war to compete as their success could still be used as part of the country’s propaganda. “This is our Lena - a native of Moscow in the Wimbledon final!” a headline on the notorious Russian website Championat reads. Rybakina gets the first point of the match as Jabeur can't return her serve. Rybakina hits a huge forehand volley at the net that Jabeur guesses the wrong way, 30-30. Jabeur comes to the net after a big serve and that forces Rybakina to go for a big winner down the line but it's wide, 30-0. Jabeur gets break point as Rybakina hits a forehand into the net and then smashes one long. Jabeur lures her opponent into a drop shot at the next which she returns but Jabeur his equal to it and Rybakina can't react quick enough to volley over. Jabeur looks to the floor as she fails to return another and Rybakina moves to one game away from the second set. Jabeur does her a favour by smashing a forehand of her own into the net. Jabeur is patient in the next few rallies and waits for Rybakina to make the mistakes and gets her wish, break point. A forehand winner to the left gives Rybakina the opener and the 23-year-old wins the next, 30-0. Jabeur then puts a forehand beyond the base line and Rybakina gets the break! Jabeur gets one back but then has to stretch to reach a forehand and her shot hits the net. Jabeur gets back in control by using the accuracy in her drop shots to lure Rybakina into the net.
