Analyzing Saturday's UFC 276 bout odds and lines between Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

Risking more than 2 times your potential return is just too risky unless you can work it into a 4- or 5-way parlay to mitigate the risk somewhat. Tipico has no influence over nor are any such revenues in any way dependent on or linked to the newsrooms or news coverage. Style points count, and takedowns might wow the judges in Volkanovski’s favor. But going the distance is the best bet. Holloway stands 5 inches taller than his Australian counterpart, but the Hawaiian fighter gives up 2.5 inches in reach. Holloway odds and lines, with picks and predictions. Holloway has picked up a pair of unanimous-decision wins over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez to get one final title shot. Gannett may earn revenue from Tipico for audience referrals to betting services. The champ enters on an impressive 20-bout win streak, including each of his 11 fights at the UFC level since debuting in Nov. 2016. Beating the same guy 3 times is difficult. That includes the first 2 fights of this trilogy. He has a 1.95 takedown average to just 0.31 for Holloway. While the submission average arrow points slightly in Holloway’s favor, the difference is rather negligible.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway UFC 276 Odds, Pick ... (The Action Network)

Billy Ward breaks down Saturday's matchup between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway at UFC 276 (T-Mobile Arena).

I see some appeal to the over 3.5, 4.5 or Volkanovski by decision plays, as well. He took rounds 1 and 2 by a fairly wide margin, with Volkanovski eking out the last three. Volkanovski was officially credited as 3/9 on takedowns in their last fight, with all of the attempts coming in Round 3 or later. The odds feel a bit off here, with a razor-thin split decision for Volkanovski last time. Volkanovski very clearly lost the first two rounds last time, so mixing in some grappling was a wise adjustment. His leg kicks, grappling and cardio are all ideal to take over fights late. While he’s the older fighter, he turned pro four years after Holloway and has slightly fewer fights. When paired with Volkanovski’s moneyline at DraftKings, the odds are -125. I’m still finding it hard to pull the trigger on former champ Holloway, though. That’s where featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will once again meet former titleholder Max Holloway. However, after Holloway rebounded with wins over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez to reclaim top-contender status, he has earned a third crack at Volkanovski’s belt. 12/4/91

Volkanovski put everything on the line in big gamble... it may finally ... (Fox Sports)

The UFC's featherweight champion has earned that right, the power to pick and choose who he fights and why. For some, taking on Max Holloway for a third time ...

I think they’re expecting that they’re getting a better version of Max Holloway and maybe somebody who sets an even faster pace, if you can believe that and brings a little bit more pressure than he did back at UFC 251. “You can see it on the scale, right? He’s doing everything the right way.” “I know he’s getting better. “Volkanovski obviously has a lot of confidence in the in the work that he’s done in his preparation and I expect him to perform pretty well.” “He is thinking and he is performing on a completely different level to what it was on that Max fight,” Lopez said. “I think he’s gonna stick with what got him here. He did not have to take this gamble. But I think Max is gonna play it the way he plays.” My timing was off. “Obviously Max Holloway is one of the greatest featherweights of all time and a future Hall of Famer. So I think it’s the right time to strike while the iron is hot and I think for Alex’s sake, if he can get a finish, I think this would close that chapter once and for all.” On the surface, it looked like it was Volkanovski who had everything to lose and Holloway who had everything to gain.

'No more questions': Aussie Volkanovski shuts up doubters for good in epic UFC masterclass.

Volkanovski was the quicker of the two in the opening round, more effective in his shots, almost toying with Holloway as if to let him know he has much more left in him. “He will have done it in a way that there will be no more questions.” “It seems like Volkanovski is faster than ever, and it seems like Max is a step behind,” Joe Rogan said in commentary. His confidence was at a completely different level too, with Volkanovski taunting Holloway in the opening round as he gracefully danced around the octagon, using his speed to full advantage. Alexander Volkanovski had called it a “legacy” fight, a chance to put an end to his rivalry with Max Holloway and to stamp his claim for immortality in the UFC’s featherweight division. For Holloway, at one point considered the clear challenger to Jose Aldo’s claim as the greatest ever in the division, this was also about “legacy”.

Alexander Volkanovski: Max Holloway trash talk 'worked against him ... (MMA Fighting)

Alexander Volkanovski is glad Max Holloway ignited a verbal altercation prior to their UFC 276 trilogy.

“They are a lot bigger wins than your average defense.” It was hurting, it was hard time, but it made me who I am now, so I’m proud that it happened. I don’t need anyone help me raise the bar, I do it myself, but he makes it easy to make me be disciplined.” I don’t know if it was a part of his game to get inside my head and try make me brawl or something like that and fight silly, I don’t, but I was like, ‘Mate, you just put fire in my belly. I wanted to go there, I was going to soak up the energy, even if it was boos, whatever, I was using that to get that fire in the belly. I needed that,” Volkanovski said on Saturday. “I was going to go to that [pre-fight] press conference, I thought it was going to be chill.

Why Conor McGregor could hold the key to answering big Volkanovski mystery.

And I think the lightweight guys still feel that. To think I don’t deserve to just move straight up [and compete for the title] would be pretty silly.” And I always wanted to challenge you.” It’s a different division but I’m here, I’m the champ.” “If I’m going to choose, I’m choosing Conor. The UFC hasn’t told me anything yet. So, that’s the difficulty.” Look, I got middleweights and light heavyweights that feel it.” I want to move up and go for double champ and I’ll keep two divisions busy. Who has really looked like that against someone like Max Holloway? “I just proved to you that I want to be in this octagon as much as possible. I want to fight by the end of the year, but if it’s at the end of the year, really, I would prefer to fight in January in Brazil, if that event happens.” I’m a dominant champ taking out guys like Max Holloway three times.
