Golden finish: Six on the trot for Collingwood, and up to the sixth (The Age)

Collingwood have once again held on in a dramatic finish – and moved to sixth on the ladder – after recovering from 14 points down in the last quarter to ...

But the stronger Suns midfield still held an advantage, and slowly, they began to work the Magpies over. Collingwood’s wastefulness was also starting to tell. But the Pies, once again, were able to lift, ramming through the last three goals, then holding fast as the Suns threw everything at them. Josh’s second had the Pies out by nine points at the half. They also missed golden opportunities. The Magpies will be praying that Moore’s injury is not serious.

Injuries and inaccuracy ruled the night as Collingwood held on to secure their 10th win of the season and cement themselves in the finals race.

Just moments later in another huge contest, star defender Darcy Moore left the field with a hyperextension of his left knee. In the desperation of the clash Connor Budarick, returning from a hamstring injury, went down after a crucial spoil in the dying stages of the game in what seemed to be a serious injury to his right knee. However, there was yet another twist in the exhilarating game, as Josh Daicos and Brody Mihocek slotted goals to level scores with just over five minutes left on the clock before Will Hoskin-Elliot continued the momentum to put the black and white in front. A sparkling last quarter for Rankine - which saw him kick two goals in the first five minutes - changed the complexion of the game and led to high praise from Goddard. The Suns failed to take a mark in the second quarter for 13 minutes as the Pies brought their best, although they were unable to take full toll scoring two goals and four behinds before Izak Rankine slotted a masterful goal from the right forward pocket to stem their momentum. Injuries and inaccuracy ruled the night as Collingwood held on to secure their 10th win of the season and cement themselves in the finals race.

Cruel late injury sours Pies' season-defining win over Suns (AFL)

Collingwood has continued its push for a spot in the top eight with a stunning win over Gold Coast.

He was a constant menace all night and is quickly turning into one of the most dangerous small forwards in the competition. Oea joined the 'first kick, first goal' club in the big time when he gathered a loose ball midway through the first quarter, straightened and kicked a brilliant right foot checkside from 30 – much to the delight of his teammates. While players from both teams stumbled, fumbled and missed opportunities from close range, Rankine was as clean as any player on the field. A slice of history was created when Gold Coast made a late change to give Papua New Guinea native Hewago Oea his debut. The prodigiously talented Magpie extracted the first clearance of the game, but that was about as good as it got. After not playing since the Queen's Birthday match against Melbourne following his much-publicised trip to Bali, all eyes were on Jordan de Goey's return.

Star's injury sours thrilling win as Suns' season on life support: 3-2-1 (Fox Sports)

The Suns led by 14 points midway through the final term, but coughed up the last three goals of the game in the 9.13 (67) to 8.14 (62) loss. Collingwood ...

Guaranteed 17 of the other clubs despise this guy,” he said. They are actually harder to find than midfielders to be honest,” he revealed. “His intercept numbers are really high. And the debutant brought fans to their feet a short time later when he kicked a goal with his first kick in the AFL. He just reads the play so well and his ability to get across and create turnovers is just great,” he praised. “That a goal of the contender for sure,” Burgoyne praised. Izak Rankine got the Suns off to the perfect start with a “miracle” snap from the pocket. The goal and the celebrations, and the tips,” McLachlan laughed. The first player to come out of Port Moresby got himself front and centre in front of Casboult and managed to straighten to kick his first goal with his first kick in the AFL. Brody Mihocek had two chances to extend the Magpies’ lead, but had a “brain snap” when he tried to play on from the goal line and a second shot that sailed left. “When you’re in the backline and under pressure, you just have to kick it long and wide,” Burgoyne said. “He certainly does make the most of his opportunities – he doesn’t mind a celebration.”

Moore hurt as Magpies edge Suns in AFL (PerthNow)

Collingwood star Darcy Moore has injured his knee as the Magpies claimed a sixth-straight AFL win with a five-point victory in a thriller over Gold Coast.

The Suns also had a moment to remember when Papua New Guinea product Hewago Oea scored a goal with his first kick in the AFL after being a late inclusion for the hosts at the expense of Chris Burgess to make his debut. Having kicked the first three goals of the match, the Suns went in at halftime down by nine after Collingwood scored five unanswered across the first and second quarters. The injuries came at the end of a see-sawing contest where the Magpies just found the winning edge after the Suns had gone 14 points clear early in the final term. He'll fight back." Suns small forward Ben Ainsworth also left the stadium in a moon-boot after injuring his left leg in the same marking contest where Moore was hurt. Moore landed awkwardly on his left knee in a marking contest late in the game as Collingwood scored the last three goals of the match to claim a nailbiting 9.13 (67) to 8.14 (62) win over the Suns.
