Yet he held firm to hold and complete a victory that improved his ATP Head2Head series record over the Australian to 2-0. I tried to work him around the court, bring a lot of variety in the game. The six-time champion broke the Australian's serve five times on his way to a two-hour victory that extended his winning streak at SW19 to 23 matches.

'He's a wall': Novak Djokovic shuts out Thanasi Kokkinakis at ... (The Guardian)

Novak Djokovic dismantled Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round at Wimbledon.

He faced a break point after a double-fault in the final game, but three excellent first serves helped him to close out the match. A better service game to open the second set was followed by another break in his next, with Djokovic walloping back another booming first serve to set up an easy volley. The No 23 seed, who is in Cameron Norrie’s quarter, will now face Alexander Bublik for a place in the last 16. The best rally of the match saw the ball skimming the net time and again before a lob from Djokovic left his opponent stranded, setting up a break-point which was converted after another miraculous return. He saved one break point with an ace and thumped down serves at 129mph and then 130mph immediately afterwards, but brilliant returns got both into play and Djokovic went on to take the points and the game for a 5-1 lead. To stand any chance against the No 1 seed Kokkinakis needed to get his big first serve up and running from the start.

Novak destroys Aussie, makes vax complaint (NEWS.com.au)

Defending champion Novak Djokovic reached the Wimbledon third round for the 16th time with another clinical display.

“I don’t see the medical logic behind it, that Tennys can play because he is a citizen of the USA and I cannot. Maybe there is a political logic behind it – not medical – but I would rather not get into that and you can understand why.” The six-time Grand Slam title winner coached Djokovic for three years until the end of 2016. What he said makes total sense — if unvaccinated players are not allowed to compete at the US Open, then it should be the case for everyone. Even if I get in, they would see me on TV playing tennis and pick me up. I got chopped today,” said the 26-year-old Aussie after his Centre Court torment.

Defending Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic takes down Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round of the grasscourt major.

It was really, really high-quality," Djokovic said after needing exactly 2 hours to underline his credentials as the tournament's hot favourite. So I don't know," he said. Jordan Thompson takes on fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, with the winner to potentially play Kyrgios for a place in the second week. The top seed will play compatriot Miomir Kecmanović next on Saturday for a place in the second week at Wimbledon for a 14th time. Kokkinakis had both the best and worst view in the house as Djokovic delivered an imperious performance to storm into the third round with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 schooling on Wednesday. 'Pretty one-way traffic': Djokovic cleans up Kokkinakis in straight sets (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Thanasi Kokkinakis has fallen victim to Novak Djokovic in full flight on the Wimbledon centre court, losing 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 after two hours on court.

He was middling it and putting it back on my toes. “A lot of firsts for me this year, a lot of things I haven’t done. It was good to pull it out because he was battling there for a while. Coverage of select matches commences on 9GEM from 7.30pm (AEST) each night. It was frustrating. I wish I could have played better. When he got me moving, I felt like I was almost going to stack it every time I was wide.” It was pretty one-way traffic. “But I felt if I wasn’t landing my first within sort of an inch of the line, it was tough. Any win is a good win. “I actually didn’t see it ... I didn’t know he spat or anything like that,” said Kokkinakis. Kyrgios is embroiled in Wimbledon controversy after spitting on court in the direction of a crowd heckler on Tuesday - an act which he strongly defended - and for calling a linesperson a “snitch”.
