The Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs clash at the Gabba in a blockbuster to start round 16 of the 2022 AFL premiership season.

We wanted to get at them and get the ball. He is like a shark in the water. Charlie Cameron was just seeking some feedback from one of the umpires about a push. Everyone tries to make the home ground a fortress. So that part of the ground was fantastic for you guys tonight. Once we changed the angles and were out the open side we were able to get hold of them a little bit. Important to keep the energy after the game last week and bounce back. A: We wanted to concentrate on winning the hunt. A: I feel sorry for any defender in the comp who has to play on him one on one. I thought I was able to impact in the end. In the first half we were going down the line a little bit. He seemed to be able to play the intercept marking game.

Tom Liberatore had five clearances — as many as the Lions combined — in a 11-disposals first term that also included a brilliant snapped goal from deep in the pocket. The Bulldogs (8-7) had won five of their last six games and beat Brisbane by a point in last season's Gabba semi-final. But their pressure lifted and the hosts kicked five of the next six goals, extending an 18-point halftime lead in a six-goal third term to prevail 16.12 (108) to 9.13 (67).

Lions back on track despite more injuries; battered Bulldogs cop finals dagger: 3-2-1.

“Racking up some really handy percentage,” commentator Jason Bennett said of the 41-point win. “The fact that he got a goal out of it has nothing to do with the actual action itself.” “I think he was trying to use him a shield and maybe push his opponent to the other side of the umpire,” Dunstall said. The Dogs have a tough run home including the Swans in Sydney and Geelong in Geelong, on top of clashes with top four fancies Melbourne and Fremantle. Jason Johannisen kicked a classy goal on the run for the first goal of the evening as the Lions struggled to get a foothold in the contest. Both sides exchanged behinds early in the third quarter and it was James Tunstill who kicked the first goal of the quarter as well as the first of his career. Naughton and Rhylee West did their best to stem things back, but the final three goals of the term went the way of the Lions, leading to a 32-point lead buffer at the final change. There were no late changes for either side. In a further blow to the Lions, Daniel Rich was ruled out of the game after halftime with a hamstring concern. Naughton steadied things for the Dogs, but it was matched and bettered by the Lions, with goals to Hugh McCluggage and Cameron making it a nine-point game. There was concern for the Lions early in the second quarter as a goal to Adam Treloar was quickly followed by a great set shot from AFL debutant Dominic Bedendo to put through his first goal at the top level. Western Bulldogs had ascendancy in the midfield early, with Aaron Naughton missing a snap from the pocket to record the first score of the game.
