With his long reach, huge serve and flat baseline power, he is dangerous on grass and was, like Berrettini, one of the players to watch closely in the bottom half of the men’s draw. Despite symptoms not being severe, I decided it was important to take another test this morning to protect the health and safety of my fellow competitors and everyone else involved in the tournament.” In all, five of the top 20 men were unable to play at Wimbledon because of bans, injuries or illness. Wimbledon was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic and instituted strict restrictions last year, following British government guidelines. The club said some health and safety measures were still in place. Berrettini trained on Centre Court on Thursday with Rafael Nadal, the No. 2 seed.

On the next point, Jubb missed a backhand volley, and that seemed it would be a fatal mistake. Especially towards the end of the fourth set, Jubb took control with his forehand, crushing key forehands down the line to force a decider and frustrate his opponent. And when he earned opportunities, he made the most of them. Daniel Evans, Alexander Bublik and Kyle Edmund were among those who took a look at the match, especially as it grew tighter and therefore more tense. Throughout the match, the Briton showed no fear of the big moment, putting gutsy shotmaking on display, taking it to Kyrgios when he had the opportunity. "I know it's not going to be the case.

The American was first to break in the decider but Tan levelled at 3-3. There’s definitely a lot of motivation to get better and play at home,” the 40-year-old American said afterwards, brushing off retirement talk. “When I saw the draw, I was really scared. “I am just playing for right now. It is business as usual at the Grand Slam this year after the tournament was cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and last year was played in front of reduced crowds. I thought if I can win one game, two games, that would be really good for me.” “I’m so emotional now,” said Tan. “She’s a superstar. The All England Club said in a statement that protocols remained in place to minimise the risk of infection. But from 4-2 down the second seed found an extra gear, winning the next four games to seal the match in a little over three and a half hours, roared on by the Centre Court crowd. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, broke after a mammoth second game of the second set and went on to level the match 6-1. Spit, 'disrespect' arrive at Wimbledon as tennis turns ugly (The Washington Post)

Nick Kyrgios capped his first-round victory at Wimbledon by spitting in the direction of a spectator he said was hassling him.

It’s not in the tennis culture, especially let alone at Wimbledon. I think the line definitely is a lot closer to being crossed than I would say than other sports because that’s just the culture of tennis. That’s just a part of the sport. “That’s definitely way past the line,” she said. “Personally, I’ve never experienced any type of heckling on the court (and) I’m very lucky, because I know other players have experienced it. It was more just to stir up and disrespect. Like, he literally came to the match to literally just not even support anyone, really.

Serena Williams lost in her first singles match in 364 days, outlasted by 115th-ranked Frenchwoman Harmony Tan 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 in the Wimbledon first round.

Asked if there’s any part of her that wants to play the U.S. Open in two months, she said, “That being the first place I’ve won a Grand Slam [in 1999], is something that’s always super special. Tan went up a mini break at 8-6 in the tiebreak, then served it out. This time around, even though I’m considered a favorite, I don’t feel like it as much as I did when I was 15 or even 16. I feel like I learned so much not to put pressure on now, now, now. Asked if she’s OK if this is her last memory at Wimbledon, she said, “Obviously not. “I feel like I’m a lot more relaxed than when I was considered the sensation,” Gauff said before the tournament.

Wimbledon 2022 results: Emma Raducanu suffers defeat to ... (Sporting News AU)

Emma Raducanu result: The British No.1 crashed out of Wimbledon in the second round after losing in straight sets to Caroline Garcia.

Garcia misses a volley at the net to give Raducanu a second break point and this time she gets it. Garcia finds the net herself to offer Raducanu the immediate break back but a strong serve puts it to deuce. Raducanu gets to 30-0 courtesy of two Garcia errors. Raducanu hits a fast backhand across the court to go to 15-15 but then strikes the same shot long on the next point. Raducanu attempts a lob and Garcia can't quite connect and her volley goes into the net. Raducanu slightly loses her footing mid-rally and Garcia punishes her with a forehand into empty space. Garcia then double faults and hits a forehand long, 30-30. Garcia fires one into the crowd (the man catches it one handed!) and then hits a forehand long to go 30-15 down. Garcia comes to the net at the next and Raducanu only has one place to go, across court on her backhand and she makes it to get break point. The fourth results in a rally but Garcia hits a forehand wide. Raducanu goes aggressive this time, a forehand winner gives her the opener. Raducanu just can't get any consistency with her forehand and she finds the net.

Finally, as part of the Commonwealth, Australia and England share a lot of similarities and are very familiar with each other. Over the years we have been fortunate to have a bit of a home base in London, so we are very familiar with life in the UK. This year having Harvey along with us adds another dimension. There is a real respect and passion for the people and for the game of tennis. The views of the entire grounds from the very top of the player cafe. We’d travelled from the Mallorca Championships in Spain after finishing the tournament on Friday, with a limited flight schedule only getting us into London at 11pm and to our accommodation at around 1am. Arriving at The Championships again this year, I had such feelings of joy and was very relaxed.
