Trent Robinson will be hoping he has a bargain in Matt Lodge, who might be the right man at the right time at the right price for the struggling Roosters.
It’s a curious purchase for Robinson, although if anyone can find a way to get the best out of Lodge, it’s probably him. But the output hasn’t even come close to the reputation with which he arrived on the scene. It’s difficult to say whether the move says more about the state of Lodge’s career or the season the Tricolours are enduring.
Ex-New Zealand Warriors' prop Matt Lodge is reportedly set to sign with the Sydney Roosters for the remainder of the 2022 season.
He has purchased a house in Sydney and is believed to want to find a club in the Sydney basin for his next long-term deal. It's now reported by The Daily Telegraph that Lodge will be in Roosters' colours in the coming weeks, with the prop to bring valuable experience and punch to a pack which has lacked plenty this season. It's believed that number has been going down by around $20,000 per week, with the Parramatta Eels previously rumoured to be interested, but unable to afford him.
The Roosters have reportedly signed former Warriors prop Matt Lodge following his exit from the New Zealand club in May.

'He'd been blowing up': Lodge's 'messy' Warriors exit laid bare as Roosters deal called into question.
As it stands, the deal is only for the remainder of the 2022 season and Lodge expressed his desire to return to the NRL as soon as possible only weeks after his Warriors exit. “For him to go to the Roosters, they say for the remainder of the season on $100,000, the NRL valued him not so long ago at $20,000 a game, does that mean he’s only able to play five games for the Roosters?,” Bishop said. SEN’s Michelle Bishop was surprised that Lodge was able to find a club for the remainder of the 2022 season considering his past off-field indiscretions.
The front-rower sensationally left the NRL club, after playing just eight games.
The controversial prop has reportedly found a new NRL club after his messy Warriors exit.
The deal as it stands is only for the remainder of the 2022 season and Lodge, who had expressed his desire to return to the NRL as soon as possible after his Warriors exit, will be hoping it could turn into an extended deal. Lodge later disputed that story. According to the Daily Telegraph, the 27-year-old will join the Roosters and receive around $110,000 in the final six to eight weeks of the 2022 season.
