While technically not a tenant of the Arconia, Alice (Delevingne) spends a lot of time with one of the key residents of the building, as she becomes quite close ...
Lucy (and Colletti) is a welcomed addition to the Arconia, if only for a little while. Only Murders in the Building did extremely well to create rich characters who all have their own mysteries and subplots. Rapaport’s injection of street-level Upper East Side edge is a great balance with the softer, affluent socialites who live in the Arconia. Alice notices the mural work Mabel spent all of last season working on and decides to invite Mabel to become a new key member of Alice’s commune of artists. Throughout the show, Short is often the biggest personality in the room, or sometimes it’s the quirkiness of the side characters that steal the show, but in the first minute MacLaine’s Leonora is introduced, the scene becomes hers. Cameos from the likes of comedians Tina Fey, Jane Lynch, Nathan Lane, and musical legend Sting rounded out a solid cast of quirky supporting characters living in the Arconia.
It's a just-the-right-side-of-twee triple hander in which Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin play crime-obsessed podcasters lurching from one disaster ...
But the whodunnit is simply an excuse for the leads to bounce off one another. Season one was a surprise hit for Disney — and that rare series on the fledgling streamer that didn’t involve superheroes or characters related to Luke Skywalker retroactively ruining your childhood. Charm is hard to do right on television and that is the quality comedy-thriller Only Murders in the Building (Disney+, Tuesday) possesses in abundance.
The most entertaining and amusing murder-mystery series of 2021 is back - and it's just as wonderful the second time around.
If you're already a fan of Only Murders in the Building, you know you'd listen to it. In its first batch of episodes, Only Murders in the Building made a point of identifying its victim's flaws and troubles — explaining why more than a few people wanted him dead, because that's the genre's whole concept — but also took great care to flesh him out as a person, too. Indeed, diving into the ups and downs, strengths and struggles, and wins and losses that make the Arconia's inhabitants who they are is as crucial a part of the show as figuring out who decides to wield a gun, knife or knitting needle. At a series level, there's none of the latter to revel in anyway. But Only Murders in the Building makes a comeback for a different reason, which definitely doesn't involve zapping more enjoyment out of evil deeds. It's also the premise behind returning Disney+ series Only Murders in the Building, which satirises the fact that everyone has wanted to be Sarah Koenig over the past decade.
Charles, Mabel, and Oliver stand together in this still from season 2 of ". Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short on season two of Hulu's "Only Murders ...
You can watch the trailer here. I don't start dating a murderer again," Martin said, referencing Charles' ill-fated relationship with the murderous bassoonist Jan (Amy Ryan) on season one. Season one followed the trio as they attempted to solve the murder of Arconia resident Tim Kono while also producing a true-crime podcast. "I don't want to reveal anything, but it's definitely physical comedy." Additionally, Tina Fey will guest star as rival podcaster Cinda Canning. - Season two of Hulu's mystery-comedy "Only Murders in the Building" premieres Tuesday.
But even after the Dimases and Jan were arrested, Mabel still felt there were loose ends; unlike Oliver and Charles, she couldn't readily accept a happy ending.
With the launch of Only Murderers In The Building (as teased at the end of season one), Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) and her lookalike collaborators (including one played by Anne Stringfield, Steve Martin’s wife) are now in direct competition with the OMITB crew. It’s a good sight gag and a fun sequence overall, but it’s also a callback in a premiere episode that’s overloaded with them, which could become a problem down the road. At one point, Cinda and her doppelgangers knit and speak ominously to Mabel about the future (through their podcast, that is), looking like the Fates by way of Williamsburg. That establishes a pretty clear objective for the second season of a hit series, but Only Murders is as haunted as Mabel is. Who texted Oliver and Charles to warn them, and did they also text Mabel? Did Jan kill anyone else at the Arconia? And at what point did Bunny buy some branded podcast merch? She had no idea that her old friend was trying to take down the dippin’ Dimases, Teddy (Nathan Lane) and Theo (James Caverly). But even after the Dimases and Jan were arrested, Mabel still felt there were loose ends; unlike Oliver and Charles, she couldn’t readily accept a happy ending. They’ll have to clear their names if they want to reap the rewards of renewed relevance and newfound notoriety. That was never really the case for Mabel, who knew the previous victim, Tim Kono (Julian Cihi). When she returned to the Arconia, ten years after the wrongful conviction of her good friend and fellow “Hardy Boy” Oscar (Aaron Dominguez), she may have just drifted back there, but Mabel tried to get Tim to do the right thing. The veteran actor and his podcasting pals, Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) and Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), didn’t have celebrity on their minds when they first started making their podcast (well, Oliver probably did), but they’re about to find out the difference between fame and infamy in season two of this delightful Hulu series. Charles thought Jan was his way out of self-imposed isolation, but he couldn’t have been more wrong: It was Oliver and Mabel who had rekindled something inside of him he thought was long dead. This time, the victim was Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), the no-nonsense president of the tenants’ board, and Mabel was the wrongly accused. Just as they were being celebrated by the people who had just voted to evict them from their beloved Arconia, the amateur sleuths stumbled into another murder in their building.
Only Murders in the Building season 2 has addressed the sudden absence of Aaron Dominguez as Oscar, friend and love interest to Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez).
Only Murders in the Building season 2 is streaming now on Disney Plus. New episodes are released weekly. You can unsubscribe at any time. In that chapter, Mabel briefly discusses the status of their relationship with friends Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short), lamenting that their bond was forged primarily from shared trauma.
It explains how architect Archibald Carter hid many secret passageways and elevators within the building, which explains the one in Bunny's apartment. We're ...
It is established that his father was having an affair with the painting’s creator Rose Cooper and Bunny’s mother too. This further adds to the notion that someone is framing Charles. He talks candidly with Bunny’s mother about his own father, who she knew. They all march up to her apartment and Bunny’s mother demands the painting be returned to her. See, a mother always knows, which feels very similar to a scene in Outer Range. The plan to replant the painting goes terribly wrong, with Charles accidentally locking them out of the building by the dumpsters. Mabel pays Alice a visit and Oliver pitches his series to Amy Schumer. Alice presents Mabel with a piece of art, which she’s made, apparently inspired by Mabel herself. Amy explains how she found it by the dumpsters and was drawn to it. The trio stare at the incriminating painting on Charles’ wall. Bunny’s mother crashes the party, demanding her painting is promptly returned to her. We’re informed that Bunny was Archibald’s granddaughter and that she spent her entire life living inside the building. This is still an intriguing and witty whodunit, but one that is quickly losing its grip. This is still an intriguing and witty whodunit, but one that is quickly losing its grip. A further flashback introduces Charles’ father, an aspiring actor, who frequented the building as well.

His work has appeared in Decider, NPR, HuffPost, The Atlantic, Slate, Polygon, Vanity Fair, Vulture, The A.V. Club and more. Why She Could Be a Suspect: Who would ever suspect Amy Schumer of committing murder?? He and Lucy hadn't been in contact in many years, until Charles got an unexpected text from Lucy in season one. Why He Could Be a Suspect: Maybe this detective took the good cop/bad cop routine too far. She's also after a missing piece of art that becomes one of the first clues in solving Bunny's murder. Detective Williams (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) is back on the case, trying to solve Bunny's murder while still looking out for these three nitwit podcasters as much as she can.
The core trio is as dynamite as ever, but the new additions are more of a mixed bag. A recap of “Persons of Interest,” episode 2 of season 2 of 'Only ...
The show is less subtle when it comes to Mabel, who, at Alice’s behest, destroys a sculpture of herself to tear down the past, I guess? Alice is supposed to be an intriguing new romantic prospect for Mabel ( not hard to see why), but she recalls Oscar in certain ways (she’s much better dressed, though). We don’t know if she’s good for Mabel, and she’s definitely hiding something. That line offers some of the smartest and subtlest commentary on the true-crime genre in the season so far. She knows exactly what she wants out of life — a painting, a cocotini (made with coconut liqueur, not, as Howard thinks, chocolate), a lover — and she goes after it. When Oliver goes off on one of his name-dropping binges, Mabel provides the perfect button for the moment: “Okay, you must ask permission to tell stories from now on.” And Charles’ typically crisp pronunciation makes “Is that a shadow or a tiny bit of his balls?” one of the funniest line readings so far. Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin are one of the best ensembles on TV right now, and it’s a joy to watch their characters alternately bicker and support one another. The season-two premiere of Only Murders in the Building went out of its way to reassure audiences that this is the same show we fell in love with last year, piling on the in-world references like so much hummus on a chip. (She should’ve asked her Trainwreck co-star LeBron James for tips.) That said, I would probably watch a show where she tries to play Amy Ryan while little Timothée Chalamet does his best Martin Short. Last season, Tim Kono’s backstory was revealed gradually: parts of his childhood, the life-altering decision he made as a young adult, his quest to make things right, and finally, his death at the hands of his ex, Jan. The Arconia was the site of it all, and the place where he redeemed himself after betraying his good friend Oscar. This building is so much more than a backdrop for tragicomedy; it’s a world unto itself, and it has an even bigger role to play in season two. He was there when his father was arrested, dragged out of that same building near the Arconia in a blood-stained shirt. The story of Bunny Folger, we’re told, is tied to that of the Arconia itself, but in a much more direct way than for the other residents. What was once just lively meta-humor is beginning to feel apologetic, especially now that there’s a whole other team of podcasters (admittedly, Cinda Canning et al.

This clever, arch comedy whodunnit crams in way more than ever before as it returns for its second season. Its fantastic guest roster alone – Shirley ...
The brilliance of this show is that you want to solve the mystery as if it were a thriller, but you get all the pleasure of it being a comedy, too. Putting the art world into the story makes for an easy target when it comes to satire, and as with Only Murders’ generation-gap comedy, it can be ever so slightly obvious. There are flashbacks and period episodes, and still, there is room for slapstick involving a knife. Mabel becomes internet-famous and is nicknamed Bloody Mabel, which leads to some interesting riffs on notoriety (and reminded me of the much-missed Search Party). This second season, not as finely balanced as the first but still a lot of fun, pulls at those loose ends until they unravel, then unravels them more. The meta murder mystery was an elegant charmer that combined a meaty crime plot, New York’s crotchety appeal, good physical comedy – watching Steve Martin roll around in a lift for half an hour is a total delight – and a sly self-awareness, all of which made for a classy debut.
Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez don't miss a beat in getting back on the case in the second season of the Hulu series.
Plus, they have new cameos to spice up the proceedings, like Amy Schumer as Amy Schumer, who immediately pitches the beyond-receptive Oliver on the idea of transforming the podcast into a limited series, because, well, showbiz. While the show perhaps inevitably doesn't feel quite as fresh this second time around, it gets plenty of mileage out of those small touches and the general obsession with true crime. Having solved the murder that occupied their first adventure, the unlikely trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) turn their attention to the next one of their neighbors to turn up dead.
Only Murders in the Building season 2 is here and we have many theories about who the murderer is this time, from Cara Delevingne's Alice to Amy Schumer.

Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez return for another marvelous, madcap season of mystery in "Only Murders in the Building."
The central trio is more adept in comedic timing, but the new episodes feel more like a continuation than a new chapter. Seeking to clear their names even as they try to move on with their lives, Mabel, Oliver and Charles resurrect their true-crime podcast for a new season and look into what happened to Bunny. The investigation takes surprising turns that reveal big secrets from their pasts, from the dalliances of Charles' father to Mabel's alleged history of violence. It's still a dull and dreary New York winter in the world of "Only Murders," but this singularly congenial show has an uncanny ability to lift your spirits even as it deals with death and mayhem.

And now, thanks to the incredible audience response, we are so happy to say there will be more murders in the building — which is great news for everyone, except perhaps the residents of the Arconia." The showrunner for Only Murders in the Building wants Harry Styles in Season 3. Only Murders in the Building actually features a lot of star power to begin with.

Reflecting on her powerhouse performance, John explained: ‘Cara as she goes along, she’s so compelling and was a real treat onset. So we do aim towards a new something or other leading us to season three.’ ‘It’s a very New York story. ‘For Mabel’s case [Selena] we touched on her desire to be an artist last year, that opening her world with a facilitator like Alice who feels aspirational to her, so that was the first beginning to Alice and how she would open up Mabel’s world.’ ‘And so, we are very hopeful about a season three, and as a little bit of a tease, the story lends itself at the end of our season two, so hang tight at the end of season two. With the trio implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbours who all think they committed the crime.
A review of the second season of Only Murders in the Building, now streaming on Hulu.
As such, Nina is the perfect encapsulation of “Only Murders in the Building.” She’s a complex, vulnerable human, worthy of our sympathy even as she clearly chooses the wrong path at times. Of course, we also meet new residents, notably Nina Lin ( Christine Ko), the pregnant powerhouse set to take the murdered Bunny’s role as Board President of the Arconia. She plays a sympathetic villain, learning from the best of Bunny’s legacy and figuring out the daunting task of new motherhood on one hand. "Only Murders in the Building" is careful to bring back the audience’s favorite supporting characters and devices from the first season. The show spends its time with everyone wisely, reminding us why we so enjoyed these characters to begin with and adding layers to our understanding of them. Again, we get episodes from different perspectives, dipping in and out of the lives of the Arconia's residents. Amy Schumer says that line a few minutes into the second season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” playing a Diane Keaton-costumed version of herself.
“Second seasons are tough, you know?” quips Oliver Putnam, played by Martin Short, during the season two premiere episode of Hulu's whodunit comedy series Only ...
“I’m always hoping that I can keep up with them,” added Gomez. “The goal is to always just try to make a joke, and I do ask if they think something is funny, and if they don’t, they are honest with me. “I must say she's a quick learner,” Short chimed in. I do feel like I get to learn a lot.” People who would rather stay low key and away from things are coming out of their own isolated worlds working for justice or some redemption for a neighbor and that's inspiring. I taught her well.’” Now a bona fide breakout hit, the show has no choice but to acknowledge the risk of a sophomore slump, as Martin explained on the red carpet for the season premiere event in Los Angeles on Monday night.
The gang is suspected of the murder of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) after Charles and Oliver (Steve Martin and Martin Short) run into Mabel's (Selena Gomez) ...
As for Oliver and Mabel’s side plots, the aforementioned inclusion of Amy Schumer is somewhat of a distraction at this point. This is another strong area of the show that continues in the second season. The first big connection between the perpetrator of the murder and the victim is a painting that belonged to Bunny that ends up inside Charles’ apartment. That means the gang have to get rid of the erotica while also trying to satisfy Charles’ curiosity for why his dad is in the piece. And Oliver is the one who once again can’t escape the influence of true crime podcasting, agreeing in a run-in with Amy Schumar (playing herself) that he will take a look at selling the rights of the show to her so it can be made into a streaming television series (another little wink and nod to the audience about what we’re watching). When Only Murders in the Building first premired in September of 2021 on Hulu, there was a lot of speculation over whether the cast would fit together properly and bring new life to the murder mystery genre on television.
When we last checked in with the 'Only Murders In The Building' gang, Oscar Torres was loved up with Mabel Mora. But in the opening episodes of Season 2, ...
However, in episode 2, Mabel reveals that the problems lie far deeper with her and Oscar. Talking to her neighbour and pal, Oliver Putman (Martin Short), Mabel says: “I think Oscar and I are both waiting for the 'let's just be friends' text.” And with new character Alice — an artist portrayed by Cara Delevingne — now on the scene, it’s highly likely that Mabel may be too distracted to think about former flame Oscar. After all, hanging about with Mabel — who is now a prime suspect in the murder of the apartment block’s board president Bunny — may not be the smartest idea. In Season 1, we witnessed lead character Mabel Mora ( Selena Gomez) start a relationship with her childhood pal Oscar Torres (Aaron Dominguez) after he was released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
There are so many good TV shows right now, and especially so many good mystery shows, that I feel like when a new one occupies the crime-solving pleasure ...
Bunny, as the board president of the Arconia, was the most-hated person in the building after Tim died. They are also on the radar of Cinda Canning, a professional podcast host played by Tina Fey who resembles Serials' Sarah Koenig and launched a rival podcast about their podcast titled "Only Murderers in the Building." Rude! It was Theo who killed Zoe—accidentally—by pushing her off the roof of the Arconia. Tim witnessed the accident, and Teddy threatened him into silence. The podcast, also titled "Only Murders in the Building" that Charles, Oliver, and Mabel started has attracted a lot of outside attention. The murderer was a woman named Jan, a classical bassoonist who was sleeping with Tim and killed him after they broke up. Only Murders in the Building is back for season 2, but if you totally forgot what happened here's an Only Murders season 1 recap to refresh.Who knows, some of those old deets may come in handy for the new mystery.

It's been a long year, but we are finally heading to the Arconia again: Only Murders in the Building is back for season 2.
Shirley MacLaine steals the show in the new season of Only Murders in the Building, and she's just getting started.
I think some of them didn’t believe I was still alive.” “It’s very good, very good,” she admits. We talk about the world and our past—we do a lot of that—but they’re also very intelligent, so we talk about real stuff. I just loved how she was all over the place, improvising herself.” It seems to be everybody’s favorite movie that I’ve done, and I’d like to think I’ve done more than that.” “Oh, the movie I did? “Sixty-six is a bad number.” Oops, it was actually 51 West 67th Street. “Well, that’s different. It was the future.” When I was there filming, the crew was the whole city to me, or at least it was during the pandemic.” “I don’t know about that, but I just loved the character and wanted to work again with Marty and Steve, to be in Manhattan doing something creative, and I wanted to see how John would be as a director; he really did a good job. “Listen, babe, this was in the middle of Covid,” she explains. And I love this character, I think she’s terrific.”
