The Wales captain, 32, is heading to the United States next month after the end of a nine-year stay at Real Madrid.
Speaking while on recent international duty with Wales, Bale said: “I don’t really know if the standard makes too much of a difference. I have options.” The five-time Champions League winner is soon to be a free agent and is looking for a new club ahead of playing for Wales at the World Cup in Qatar, which starts in November.

Former Juventus and Italy international Giorgio Chiellini joined the club earlier this month. Bale was once the world's most expensive player and has spent the last eight seasons with Real Madrid, winning three domestic championships and five Champions League titles.
Five time Champions League winner Gareth Bale has taken on an intriguing new challenge, signing a one-year contract with MLS team LAFC.
He has proven over the years, that he can be devastating on his day and can change a game in a second. At 32 years old, having been on the fringes in Madrid for several years, seemingly happy picking up his monstrous wages, his desire has been called into question by many. The Welshman has signed a one-year deal until June 2023 and leaves Madrid having won three La Ligas in addition to his Champions League triumphs.
Welsh attacker Gareth Bale announces that he is joining MLS outfit Los Angeles FC on a free transfer.
The forward has played an important role in the club's success in recent years, leaving with a record of 106 goals and 67 assists in 258 appearances in all competitions. The Wales international is believed to have agreed a one-year contract with the MLS outfit, and he will follow legendary centre-back Giorgio Chiellini to the club, with the Italian running down his contract at Juventus before making the move to Los Angeles. The 32-year-old has departed Real Madrid as a free agent this summer, and he has been strongly linked with a move to Cardiff City ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Gareth Bale finally has a heading as his roller-coaster ride of a Real Madrid career comes to an end. The Welsh maestro, after links to Cardiff City…
The fact of the matter is that the now 32-year-old is a truly special player and we have yet more footage to prove it. In full flight, Bale was simply glorious to watch and, in truth, we could point to any number of the once-in-a-lifetime moments that underpinned his career in the famous white shirt. It calls to a close a bizarre era in the game for Bale who won countless trophies during his time in Madrid, but never truly won over the notoriously hard to please fans.

Former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is set to join Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer, and he won't be the only former Premier League ...
The Swiss international scored his first MLS goal from the penalty spot back in March, and has since added two more. Guzan racked up more than 150 Premier League appearances, the bulk of them for Aston Villa, after moving to England in 2008. However, 17 goals in the 2021 season was almost enough to drag his team into the playoffs. Vela won the MLS Supporters' Shield with LAFC in 2019, before reaching the final of the CONCACAF Champions League the following year. Vela began his professional career with Arsenal, but left the club in 2012 after failing to hold down a regular starting spot. Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the other one-time Premier League players currently plying their trade in the US and Canada with Bale set to join them over the summer.
Cardiff City had been holding out hope that Gareth Bale might return to his hometown, but he opted for Los Angeles instead.
So the disappointment of Cardiff City supporters is understandable, and the Championship misses out on the bonanza of having such a high-profile player taking part in it. Players will need to be in good condition, even if this tournament is unusual in that it isn’t being played at the end of a long season for a significant proportion of its players. In 2020, Sky Sports found that the Championship had nearly 50% more red cards, 14% more yellow cards, and 12% more ‘duels’ during the 2019/20 season, on average, than the Premier League. If you had Gareth Bale’s calves and knew there was a World Cup finals coming up that was your country’s first in almost six and a half decades and which would almost definitely be your last chance of playing in one, would you want to take that risk on a wet Tuesday night in Stoke? One striking irony of this transfer is that the USA are in the same group as Wales in the World Cup finals. And even though this particular tournament is being played in the winter, the temperature in Doha is still likely to be in the mid-eighties. But there are coherent reasons why Bale might be better off in California than in Glamorganshire next season, especially if those World Cup finals are his primary focus for the second half of 2022.

Major League Soccer (MLS) is set to welcome another world-renowned soccer star after Wales captain Gareth Bale agreed to a one-year deal with Los Angeles FC ...
Chiellini forged his name as one of the best center-backs in the game during a decorated 18-year spell with Juventus, lifting nine Serie A titles and five Coppa Italia trophies. The pair's arrival continues the trend of some of the game's biggest names joining the MLS in the twilight years of their careers. The six-time winner of the Welsh Footballer of the Year award arrives in LA having helped guide his country to their first FIFA World Cup finals in 64 years earlier this month.
Robert Earnshaw believes that Gareth Bale's move to Los Angeles FC is the right one given the club's current trajectory. The Wales international ended.
“The number one thing with Gareth is that he loves to play football. “He’s made this decision very quickly. “As a football player, you haven’t got forever, Gareth Bale especially hasn’t got forever to play so in that time you want to go and play in the leagues and places that you would like to experience and like to see.
Gareth Bale will join MLS side Los Angeles FC next month in a sensational free transfer move.
Bale is a free agent as his contract with Real Madrid expires this summer. But, his decision to head to California is viewed as a left field move, with reports of the deal only emerging in the last 24 hours. Bale’s Real Madrid contract expires in July and the Welsh star has confirmed the end of his time in Spanish football.
Welsh soccer star Gareth Bale is taking his talents from the European circuit to the United States with Major League Soccer's LAFC, possibly beginning in ...
Bale was rumored to be considering retirement if Wales hadn’t qualified for the World Cup. But his national team miraculously earned its first World Cup appearance since 1958. He played briefly for Tottenham during the 2020-21 season. The 32-year-old initially played for Tottenham before joining Real Madrid in 2013 for a then-record $106.4 million before being loaned to Hotspur. His current contract expires in the summer.
It's not often that Los Angeles FC co-president and general manager John Thorrington has time to sit and watch a soccer game for purposes other than ...
The plan is also for LAFC to add that player in this window. The ability to rotate should keep Vela and Bale fresh for the stretch run in the fall. “He doesn’t need to play football — he’s one of the best-paid footballers of all time — but if all goes well, of course he could stay there for a while. The cap restraints of a non-designated-player deal limited the pay but Bale has made plenty of money and he has long-standing marketing partners. It’s a solid short-term solution with the potential to make it a longer-term partnership. LAFC still has an open designated player spot and Thorrington said the team will move to fill it this summer window if the right player is available. LAFC was in first place and offered a chance to win trophies. “What we can offer a player like him is a unique opportunity to come and do something different.” The deal also includes an 18-month option that would increase his salary and make him a designated player if triggered next summer, multiple sources with knowledge of the deal said. In the end, though, LAFC swooped in to sign the five-time Champions League winner. The intention was to be aggressive in the summer window. “Did I think, coming into the year, ‘let’s set aside money to sign Gareth Bale?’. No, that was not in my plans,” Thorrington told The Athletic, letting out a slight chuckle.

Which brings us to Bale, or whatever is left of Bale. He has been at this for 15 years since beginning his first and most successful stretch at Spurs. Though he was never embraced at Madrid (hell, he was regarded as verminous) he still put in eight years, with the requisite wear and tear that creates. Bale is a curious case in that he opted not to play for Welsh club Cardiff City and the leg-savaging treacheries of the Championship for the pre-World Cup adulation, nor for the Saudi-moneyed Newcastle United and the pre-World Cup marketing opportunities. His principal role at LAFC will be to prep for Wales while making somewhere around $2 million as a targeted allocation like Chiellini and kicking in what he can for the conference leaders. MLS is light years from where it was even a decade ago, but it remains both a beneficiary and a victim to North America’s newfound love of soccer at its highest heights (Europe) rather than at its homegrown middlings. He laughs, claps, throws itself to the ground, sings, in a kind of humiliating ceremony, which, at least, finally comes to an end, like all misfortunes.” Gareth Bale’s arrival in Los Angeles as the newest and second oldest member of LAFC has been described as a shock to those who forgot that the club signed 37-year-old Giorgio Chiellini two weeks ago.
The Welsh superstar was announced as a signing by the LAFC Co-President and GM, John Thorrington, on Sunday June 26th. Signed on a free transfer and to a TAM ...
“We’re incredibly excited in the face of very stiff competition worldwide, that he agreed [to sign for LAFC] and we’re excited to welcome him in the coming weeks.” Of course, some similar things were said about Carlos Vela at times in Spain before he lit up MLS, so some of the negativity around Bale may be quite unfair. This year, he has led them to qualification to the 2022 World Cup, Wales’ first World Cup berth since 1958. He turned pro and made his debut with English club Southampton in 2006, remarkably starting his career as a left back with Saints and then when he first moved to Tottenham in 2007. In 2020-21, he went on a season-long loan to Spurs, and returned to Real Madrid this past season, where he barely featured, his relationship with the club fractured permanently. The Welsh superstar was announced as a signing by the LAFC Co-President and GM, John Thorrington, on Sunday June 26th.
Los Angeles FC are hoping their signing of Gareth Bale will prove a “long-term partnership”
The first game he would be potentially available for would be the game we have here on July 8.” Our window opens in early July and that will be the first time we can register him. Obviously we expect him to be a top, top player for us and in this league, but we will do so sensibly.
Gareth Bale has joined Los Angeles FC after leaving Real Madrid. His signing is one of the biggest in Major League Soccer history.
Gareth Bale also recently led Wales to their first FIFA World Cup in 64 years. Like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, David Villa, Theirry Henry, and others before him, Gareth Bale was attracted to the US lifestyle as much as the football. That and the fact Bale isn’t quite ready to play second-tier English football yet.
Focusing on the friction between Bale and Real Madrid is a disservice to one of the greatest British players of his generation.
Maybe that is a transactional view but given that Bale scored three goals in Champions League finals, he did hold up his side of the deal. Bale was within his rights not to walk out on that money and none of his team-mates played for free, either. But there seems to be something else on the other side of the scale here. Maybe he has just moved to the margins of our football consciousness. Maybe that will change in time when we get enough distance from his achievements to see them in perspective. Bale helped to get them there, the club finishing fourth in 2009-10, at the time their best league campaign since the 1980s. By these two measures alone, Bale should surely be considered as one of the greatest British players of his generation. Put these two elements together — the memorable heights he hit and the transformative effect he had on his teams — and it feels most of the way towards a definition of footballing greatness. Or you could pick any one of a long list from the 2012-13 season, when Bale managed to outdo himself week after week with another moment more spectacular and dramatic than the last. If you are a Wales fan, it might be the winner against Scotland in 2012, where he ran from the halfway line and put the ball in the top corner with two minutes remaining. Then he helped them qualify for Qatar, whose hosting of the World Cup is controversial for the reasons described in this article. Bale has that magic habit of appearing to turn football from a team game into an individual one.
