After Thor: Love and Thunder's premiere, we collect the thoughts of those lucky enough to get a first look at Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster.
For those who have wondered whether Christian Bale might be a villain for the ages, some have described Gorr as “chilling” and “top tier”. We’ll be able to find out for ourselves when Thor: Love and Thunder is released next month. In Thor: Love and Thunder Hemsworth reprises his iconic role, but as a God of Thunder who is now looking to finally find some peace after losing so much that was dear to him during the events of Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Shipping off for some cosmic adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy, things get complicated when galactic killer Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) sets about his mission to make all gods extinct. We’re just two weeks away from the release of Marvel’s latest MCU installment, but Thor: Love and Thunder has now had its premiere in Los Angeles, so we get to read all the first reactions from those who were invited to attend!
See how Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, and more dazzled at the world premiere in Hollywood.
Marvel's newest stars were also in attendance. Sean Gunn plays Kraglin in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise. Jaimie Alexander finally makes her return to the "Thor" franchise as Sif in "Love and Thunder."
Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher is being compared to both Heath Ledger's Joker and Danny DeVito's Penguin in Taikia Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thankfully, Thor: Love and Thunder sounds like it could actually be the thing to, if not propel us forward, at least throw us back to the glory days of 2017-2019. Sure, the MCU-adjacent Spider-Man: No Way Home blew everyone away just seven months ago, and yes, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made shy of $900m last month. It sounds weird to say this in the year of our Lord 2022, but – the MCU needs a shot in the arm.
With Sweet Child O' Mine playing in the background, the trailer depicts the movie's main cast of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg ( ...
Following the release of official character posters, Marvel Studios releases the final trailer for its highly-anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder film. Arriving in theaters on July 8. 'Thor: Love and Thunder' Final Trailer Reveals Celestials
The latest promo for Thor: Love and Thunder marks the first appearance of the MCU's Celestials since the 2021 film Eternals.
(Let's hope they like Huey Lewis and the News.) In other words, the God of Thunder and his friends might not be the only ones on the proverbial chopping block. The titanic, cosmic beings got their most prominent showing to date in Eternals, though, as previously mentioned, have been kept on ice since.
Reactions are in for Thor: Love and Thunder, hailing the Marvel film as the best of Phase 4, a bright spot, and unexpectedly personal and heartfelt.
They both emphasized just how funny Thor: Love and Thunder is, which feels like a given considering Waititi's keen witty style. When it comes to Taika Waititi, a little chaos is to be expected, and it seems like Thor: Love and Thunder is no exception. But how will Thor: Love and Thunder fare with early reactions?
The first impressions are in for the new MCU instalment. Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor. Marvel Studios/ ...
Kevin Polowy had similar thoughts about the movie: #ThorLoveandThunder is f**king great. Natalie Portman makes a mighty return & Christian Bale slays it as the terrifying Gorr. The best Thor film yet!" I think this may be my favorite Thor movie."
The novelty from Thor: Ragnarok might have worn off, but Thor: Love and Thunder is a worthy sequel.
However, you can't be that breath of fresh air twice, so you need to up the emotional connection to the characters and the plot. What I can talk about is something that the thing that made #ThorRagnaroksuch a breath of fresh air was how different it was from the other movies. It's also very funny (Natalie's got jokes) and features one of the most stunning visual sequences in MCU history. All in all, it sounds like "Love and Thunder" brings the laughs, which isn't surprising given Waititi's comedy pedigree. Very standard, cookie cutter villain with Christian Bale. I want the buddy cop comedy with Natalie Portman & Tessa Thompson. Matt Damon must go Broadway. Post credits are EPIC! Pure fun. LOADS of laughs (my face legit hurts), menace of Christian Bale’s Gorr is chilling, but most of all loved that it’s a film brimming with good vibes & heart. A sublime mixture of extreme silliness, dreamy surrealism and genuine emotion, with some of the most visually inventive set pieces in the MCU. Full of delightful surprises. Kirsten Acuna of This Is Insider pegged "Love and Thunder" as "the best entry in Phase 4 behind Shang-Chi and No Way Home," writing, "Natalie Portman is FINALLY given her due." Her colleague Steven Weintraub was more circumspect but said that he "had a blast" with the movie and its credit scenes. Both highlighted the goats as their favorite characters, and this would become a common refrain in other reactions coming out of the premiere. "Love and Thunder" will have its wide release in theaters two weeks from now, on July 8, 2022, and most loyal Marvelites are probably going to see it regardless of what anyone says. With "Love and Thunder," Chris Hemsworth's Marvel superhero becomes the first founding Avenger to get a four-quel.
Critics' pre-release reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder confirm that the upcoming MCU blockbuster boasts more than one post-credits scene.
Several critics also applauded Tessa Thompson's portrayal of Valkyrie, noting the actor's strong chemistry with her co-star Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor. Thompson recently addressed some fans' confusion over why her character is known as the "king" of Asgard in the film, instead of using a different royal title. "But I think he just [realized] he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film. Variety's Clayton Davis described the two tags as "EPIC" while TooFab's Brian Particelli raved about how the film included a "can't miss [post-]credits reveal."
Thor is putting together the greatest superhero team the world has ever seen in the final trailer for the upcoming MCU sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder.
Another describes Thor: Love and Thunder a “classic Thor adventure!” Praising the latest Marvel outing for being “everything I wanted it to be,” they conclude that the fourth Thor movie is “Big, colorful, weird Guns N' Roses-fueled battles to go w/ a hopelessly romantic story about discovering love in unexpected places. The first reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder have now emerged, with the consensus being a largely positive one. The footage also features a whole lot of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the likes of Rocket Racoon and Groot once again doing what they do best.
The first reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder are in. According to some, it not only tops director Taika Waititi's previous MCU effort Thor: Ragnarok – but ...
Natalie Portman, who is returning to the Thor franchise, this time as The Mighty Thor, received plenty of plaudits. A sublime mixture of extreme silliness, dreamy surrealism and genuine emotion, with some of the most visually inventive set pieces in the MCU." I left this movie emotionally satisfied while also sobbing and just perfection."
After the "Thor: Love and Thunder" premiere June 23, fans took to Twitter to praise Taika Waititi's MCU "masterpiece."
The best entry in Phase 4 behind Shang-Chi and No Way Home. I laughed. Then I laughed and cried some more, in that order. LOADS of laughs (my face legit hurts), menace of Christian Bale’s Gorr is chilling, but most of all loved that it’s a film brimming with good vibes & heart. Feels like the best of MCU Phase 1 and Phase 4 in one entry. A wacky, high energy delight with a cast full of aces crushing one scene after the next. That said, it's safe to assume that Waititi earned Hemsworth's trust when it comes to showing off his behind in the movie, and it looks like it all went perfectly based on their hilarious banter. "It was a lot of work to get ready. It was 10 years in the making, that scene — kind of a dream of mine. While Hemsworth first quipped that it was "a contractual obligation" that made him return to do Thor 4, Waititi hilariously crashed the interview. The scene in question is Hemsworth's bare-ass scene that was featured in Thor 4's official trailer. In a Marvel film, it was on a very large screen.
Taika Waititi's newest MCU offering had its world premiere on June 23 in Hollywood.
However, some critics had gripes with the overall tone of the Marvel universe less so than with Waititi’s film. “Christian Bale is phenomenally menacing as #ThorLoveandThunder’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher,” Insider correspondent Kirsten Acuna writes. After the soaring critical success of Waititi’s last Marvel offering, Thor: Ragnarok, expectations for the new film were substantially high.
An official Thor recap video fails to mention or show the God of Mischief, Loki.
Thor was no part of Loki besides mentions, memories, and a frog in a jar. Along with that, he could be trying to put Loki in his past and move forward with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster/Mighty Thor and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. After causing a Sacred Timeline breach in Avengers: Endgame, the 2012 version of the God of Mischief went on a wild ride in the original Disney+ series Loki. During one of Disney's most popular streaming series, Loki was able to escape the concept of time and space, see his life end, and reconstruct how he views reality.

Might be my second favorite MCU romance because of how genuine it was, and the actors deliver their best performances as these heroes. Got the free-spiritedness, life-affirming heart of his non-blockbusters, and some terrific spectacle that is a BIG improvement from Ragnarok. Gave me some Dark Knight Ledger Joker vibes at one point. This film is a warm hug and plea to cherish the present, live in the moment do something that matters. – Griffin Schiller, The Playlist a wacky, high-energy delight with a cast full of aces crushing one scene after the next. Critics' first reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder have been positive, but is the new film better than its predecessor?
Thor: Love And Thunder IS AWESOME!" Ironically, one of the negatives that was pointed out by critics is that Thor: Love and Thunder just tries too hard to emulate its predecessor. "Thor: Love and Thunder is the GREATEST movie Marvel has made so far! "Thor: Love and Thunder is a fun, tight, and largely self contained Marvel adventure. "Thor: Love And Thunder is a swashbuckling adventure that doesn’t reach the high bar set by Ragnarok. Christian Bale steals every scene but wish we had more of him. It embraces the pulp and has fun moments, but misses on the story."
The first reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder have begun appearing online, and most critics are happy to see Taika Waititi back in the Marvel fold.

Chris Hemsworth has begun doing interviews for the film and has teased some big reveals for Portman's return. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. Which is interesting for Thor to try and understand or grab a hold of that idea because he's in a space of 'who am I?' And to see someone else dressed like him is like, slightly confusing." Marvel Studios describes Thor: Love and Thunder as follows: "The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced – a quest for inner peace. We have been getting a bunch of cool clips from Love and Thunder, but now one clip is showing us who Thor is still in love with. The scene is pretty hilarious and hopefully the entire film plays out like this.
The upcoming "Thor" sequel ties into several previous Marvel films and includes characters from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" series.
The film features direct callbacks to "Thor: The Dark World" and even has a brief cameo with Jane Foster using archive footage. The movie, which presents a more comedic take on the character, is directed by Taika Waititi. Waititi returns to direct "Thor: Love and Thunder," so we can expect a similar tone. You’ll see some Mjolnir action in this one, as well as the goats that Thor will end up with below: That’s not the only Love and Thunder clip that Marvel released this week. The Love and Thunder trailers made it clear so far that it’s not Thor who will repair Mjolnir. He’s shocked to see the hammer appear. But we soon find out that it’s a speech that Thor often gives, one that the Guardians are more than familiar with. Just as we’ve known that Jane (Natalie Portman) would return to Thor 4 where she would rock the Mjolnir hammer. The Mjolnir that Captain America (Chris Evans) got in Endgame came from a different reality.
