Long-serving Labor minister Jacinta Allan has been appointed Victoria's deputy premier under a factional deal, backed by Premier Daniel Andrews.

Hawthorn MP John Kennedy had earlier emerged from the caucus meeting to confirm Allan had been chosen as deputy premier.
