Influencers bypassing ad code to spruik diabetes drug for weight loss (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Lifesaving diabetes medication is in short supply as social media users continue to promote the prescription-only drug Ozempic for weight loss.

She said she had filled Ozempic scripts for people “young and old”, noting it was “not just people trying to fit into their bikinis” but also people using the drug to lose weight for health reasons. It increases insulin secretion, resulting in increased sugar metabolism. The statement discourages GPs from prescribing Ozempic “off-label”, which refers to when doctors write a script for a drug for a purpose for which it is not registered.
