“Ezra Mam is only 19 years of age. A lot of players plan the things they do, but he has a plan, but he works his way around the things he can do within the plan.” He gets up in the air. He just has a good knack of knowing what play to do at the right time on a football field and that is hard to do. He reminds Billy Slater that he is still around. “He hasn’t played in the NRL in a couple of years.” “Right at the end of the first half, a try to Cameron Munster and a try to Jahrome Hughes,” Alexander said. “It was a great ball from Capewell for him to dive over in the corner.” “The Broncos hit back with a couple of brilliant tries to their wingers,” Tallis said. “The last try of the first half to Jahrome Hughes reminded me of Billy Slater, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk back in the day,” Marshall said. “I don’t ever say things like this but I would go as far as to say he is the best player in the game at the moment,” Marshall said. The Broncos scored a consolation try to Mam, which saw the score reflect the closeness of the contest, but the Storm were too classy in the end.
Melbourne roar back after trailing 16-6 in the first half to halt Broncos' seven-match winning streak.
Meaney converts to reduce the deficit to four. 35 min: Cobbo fumbles a Jahrome Hughes kick and Munster pounces on the loose ball and scores. A very different Broncos team in 2022. Hard to believe Melbourne belted Brisbane 40-6 on this same turf last year. 38 min: Ezra Mam grabs a late consolation try for the Broncos, backing up a long break by Billy Walters. Kick unsuccessful. Too little, too late though.
Brandon Smith and Tui Kamikamica are both set to start in Craig Bellamy's line-up for Friday night's blockbuster against the Broncos.

The Storm trailed 16-6 six minutes before halftime when Jahrome Hughes laid on a try for Cameron Munster with a well placed kick and then levelled the scores with a spectacular try on his own. - Ieremia then scored his second try seven minutes later after Munster kicked on the second tackle and the the Melbourne winger pushed Cobbo back in-goal to force a goal line drop-out. - Melbourne-raised winger Dean Ieremia then put the Storm back in front when he dived over in the corner to score in the 56th minute after a cut out pass from Munster to Lee created space out wide. - Hughes then made a break, passed inside to Nick Meaney and then backed up to receive a flick pass from his fullback and raced 25 metres to score in the 37th minute. - Munster scored the first after Hughes kicked on the second tackle and Cobbo fumbled the ball as he dived on it and Munster swooped to score with just six minutes remaining to the interval. - Roberts, who was playing his first NRL match for more than two years, then laid on a try for boom winger Selwyn Cobbo in the 27th minute with a cut out pass as the visitors raced to a 16-6 lead.
Melbourne have shown Brisbane who is boss, winning their NRL top-four clash 32-20 in an arm-wrestle on Friday night.
Hughes capped a starring performance with a clever grubberkick into the in-goal which he followed up to put the result out of doubt. After six tries in the opening stanza they proved harder to come by in the second half with Ieremia coming up with the goods in the 56th and 63rd minutes. With skipper Adam Reynolds out with a rib injury, Tyrone Roberts stood up in the No.7 jersey with his kicking and passing game en pointe.
Melbourne outlasted the Broncos in an entertaining clash at AAMI Park on Friday night.
“But apart from that, we were in the fight and it was good to get a late try against them as well. “They’ve been the benchmark team for a long time and we’re on the way up. But it’s OK, we’ve got plenty of rounds left to fix ourselves up and get going again.” They are a good side, they’ve earned their spot in the top four,” he said. “To put 26 points on them in a row is a pretty good effort. The try was scored by Mam, but most of the hard work was done by Billy Walters: he trapped a grubber kick with his legs, scooped the ball up, and ran 60 metres downfield. The easy conversion nailed made it 32-16 with four minutes to play. A second tackle chip-kick 20 metres from the line by Jahrome Hughes landed in space, and although Cobbo did well to read the kick, it popped up out of his arms and a following Munster was on hand to score the very easy try. It may have taken almost 20 minutes of the second half, but the Storm were the side to break through for the next try. With six minutes to go the Storm scored once more, and it was Hughes who got the four pointer. An uncharacteristic error from Ieremia – bringing back the football from a kick on the first tackle – led to the Broncos adding a third try for the night. The conversion was missed and the teams went into half-time locked at 16-all. The sideline conversion was missed by Kotoni Staggs and with 20 minutes to go the score remained 6-4. Melbourne crossed the line again minutes later, and again it was disallowed. Staggs’ conversion gave the Broncos a surprise 10-6 lead with 15 minutes to go until half-time. Eventually Melbourne found their way over the Broncos line when Tui Kamikamica crashed over from close to the line charging through a half gap. The Storm had won 10 in a row against Brisbane, and scored 164 points in their last four matches, but this felt like a different clash awaiting on Friday night.

While he was a little “gassed” late in the game, veteran Tyrone Roberts filled in admirably at half back for Reynolds. “We’ve always seen the flashy side of Ezra, but I like the toughness he’s showing,” Walters said. “They’ve been the benchmark team for a long time and we’re on the way up,” Walters said.
