Marcus Smart is not on the injury report for Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors on Friday.
- SHOULD THE BUCKS MAKE A TRADE? The Milwaukee Bucks lost Game 7 to the Boston Celtics, which officially ended their 2021-22 NBA season in the second-round. As for the Warriors, a win for them ties up the series at 2-2. The 2022 Defensive Player of The Year is not on the injury report for the game.
We take a closer look at the numbers to see what has separated the Celtics and Warriors over the first 3 games of these Finals.
During the regular season, the Warriors led the NBA in assist percentage as more than two-thirds of their baskets (66.9% to be exact) came off an assist. In Game 2, it was Golden State’s turn to capitalize on Boston’s mistakes, racking up an 18-point advantage (33-15) in points off turnovers in a 19-point win. In Game 1, Boston outscored the Warriors by 11 points off turnovers (21-10) and finished with a 12-point win. Part of that drop off has to be credited to Boston’s defense, which has disrupted Golden State’s normally free-flowing, pass-heavy offense. What separates the Celtics and Warriors through three games are two field goals (116-114) and five free throws (43-38), all in favor of Boston. The teams are even in 3-pointers made with 49 apiece, although Boston is making 3-pointers at a higher percentage. One stat that has been connected to the winner of all three games is points in the paint — the team that wins that battle has won each game. However, holding the edge on the break does not guarantee a win: Golden State outscored Boston 18-4 in fast-break points in Game 3 … and still lost by 16. The Celtics are utilizing the pass to set up scoring opportunities at a much higher rate than the Warriors. The Celtics (15.4%) and Warriors (15.1%) have turned the ball over at similar rates during the playoffs and during the Finals, specifically. Much of Boston’s +17 rebound advantage in The Finals came in Game 3 as the Celtics won the boards 47-31 overall and 15-6 on the offensive glass. The key stat to look at here is drives to the basket, where Boston has a 155-114 advantage in total drives and a 15-10 advantage in free throws made on drives. Boston has made five more (and also attempted seven more) free throws than Golden State thus far.
'Absolutely iconic': Curry drops 43 pts in 'incredible' performance as Warriors level NBA Finals.
He picked up three personal fouls in three quarters and was subbed out by Steve Kerr in the final quarter in what was a gutsy call by the Warriors coach. The Golden State star sunk a shot from deep and exploded in celebration as the TD Garden was stunned into silence and forced a Celtics timeout. It was a slow start from the Warriors as the Celtics leapt out to an early lead, as Curry also picked up his first personal foul in the opening two minutes.

Rolling report: The Golden State Warriors leveled the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics with a crucial Game 4 win. Beau Dure was watching.
Warriors 60-66 Celtics, 7:31, third period: The summer of Draymond Green’s discontent continues, with Jaylen Brown drawing a foul from the controversial Warrior and finishing beautifully. He also hits the shot and the free throw. At the other end, he saves a ball for a defensive rebound, starting a fast break that ends with Derrick White’s acrobatic layup with the and-one. Tatum is +10. Stats and damned lies, perhaps, but the issue for the Celtics is that Tatum, Brown and Robert Williams III have been bearing a lot of the load. Brown with the steal and a “layup” in which he was falling and had the ball maybe a foot off the ground when he released it. And what of Otto Porter Jr., the Warriors’ surprise starter? And he probably should’ve gone to the line as well. Warriors 73-73 Celtics, 2:31, third period: Tatum returns from a brief spell on the bench, but after a couple of misses and turnovers, guess who hits another twisting effort, this time from ... apparently 33 feet? Warriors 97-94 Celtics, 3:21: Cue the procession of timeouts. Warriors 102-97 Celtics, 46.8: Brown loses the ball out of bounds. Warriors 86-90 Celtics, 7:32: Brown with the runner. Warriors 97-94 Celtics, 3:41: Klay Thompson continues a late-game surge with a big three.

Williams was listed as questionable coming into the game with the knee injury that kept him out at the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. Curry scored 14 points in the quarter, making four three-pointers. There was a blank rectangle where the 18th would go.
The NBA Finals series between Golden State and Boston is locked at two games apiece, after the Warriors won Game 4 thanks to a Stephen Curry masterclass.
"I could tell in his demeanour, last couple of days, even after Game 3 that he was going to come out with that kind of fire." "The things he does, we kind of take for granted at times, to go out there and put us on his back. Curry scored 14 points in the quarter, making four 3-pointers. But didn't seem to bother him on Friday night. We've got to help him out on Monday." "I just thank God that I avoided significant injury.
Our betting experts offer their best plays and tips ahead of Friday's NBA Finals Game 4 in Boston.
Green is one of the most prideful players in the NBA, and thus likely to come out hard in Game 4. When Curry is on the court in the Finals, Golden State has a 116.8 offensive efficiency, which drops to 91.5 when he is off. In the series he's averaging 5.0 PPG, 5.0 APG and 6.7 RPG. As the Warriors try to even the series, Green will bring an even higher level of focus and physicality to their game. In the five games leading up to Game 3, Green averaged a 23 PAR and was never under 20. In a game where Boston was laying 3.5 points, Klay Thompson dropped his highest scoring total of the series (25 points), Steph Curry had his best shooting performance of the series (54.5 percent) and the Celtics produced their worst 3-point shooting effort of the series (37.1%), and Boston still won by 16 points. In the history of the NBA, eight times has a player done that for the NBA champion and seven of those instances resulted in a Finals MVP award. As bad as Boston has been in the third quarter, it has been great in the second quarter with a plus-70 point differential. In Game 4, Looney will have a chance to step up while Stephen Curry is dealing with an ankle injury. Kings of the quarter: If you've paid any attention to this series (or the NBA for the better part of a decade), you're well aware that Golden State dominates third quarters (plus-43 points in this series). What you might not be aware of is just how effective Boston's fourth quarter defense has been. The sportsbooks appear convinced that the Celtics hold the upper hand in this series (-230), but the Tatum MVP odds are right around even money and that's where the value lies. Warming up: Jayson Tatum's production as a scorer has been tough to predict through three games in the NBA Finals, but if the past is any indication, he's just getting started. In the Dallas series, Golden State used Steph Curry as a do-it-all option and he averaged one assist for every 2.4 shots taken.
The two-time MVP put the Warriors on his back to send the series back to San Francisco even at 2-2.
For Curry, Game 4 was a showcase of both prolific volume and dramatic timeliness. The Celtics, who led for most of the game, looked as if they'd get a long-awaited signature performance from Jayson Tatum, who entered the game averaging 22 points over the first three games on a woeful true shooting percentage of 48.4. Both Tatum and Jaylen Brown turned in solid efforts -- decisive, assertive attacks with smart playmaking. The Golden State Warriors built a dynasty playing a beautiful brand of basketball predicated on movement, passing and creativity. Against the NBA's top-ranked defense that has zeroed in on the game's most celebrated shooter, Curry found the smallest pockets of space in the Celtics' pick-and-roll coverage to launch looping shots from long distance and acrobatic runners off the dribble. Golden State has had to rely on Curry, with heavy usage of a more traditional pick-and-roll game to maximize his shot opportunities. The Warriors have traditionally featured plenty of offense during their dynastic run, but they have struggled to find consistent shot creation outside of Curry's exploits.
Stephen Curry scored 43 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 107-97 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA finals on Friday night.
Williams was listed as questionable coming into the game with the knee injury that kept him out at the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. Curry’s ankle was an issue coming into the night after Boston’s Al Horford landed on it late in Game 3. The amped-up crowd spent much of the game booing Green, chanting an obscenity at him that is usually reserved for Bucky Dent, and jeering his many misses. “The things he does, we kind of take for granted at times, to go out there and put us on his back. Marcus Smart, who scored 18 points, hit a three-pointer to give the Celtics a 94-90 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and 16 boards for the Warriors, who have won at least one road game for 27 consecutive playoff series.
Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Joel Embiid sent out a tweet during Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics.
- SHOULD THE BUCKS MAKE A TRADE? The Milwaukee Bucks lost Game 7 to the Boston Celtics, which officially ended their 2021-22 NBA season in the second-round. The Heat then lost to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals in seven games. As for Embiid and the 76ers, they lost in the second-round of the playoffs to Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in six games.
Game 4 of the NBA Finals saw one of the greatest performances of Stephen Curry's career. Putting the team on his back, Curry led the Golden State Warriors ...
Steph Curry reminded the basketball world of his greatness, notching 43 points on 14/26 shooting and keeping the Warriors' hopes alive. In a fourth-quarter filled with big shots, Steph Curry had the final say. Putting the team on his back, Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a furious comeback against the Boston Celtics and a 107-97 win.
Wiggins has been Curry's most reliable running mate on both ends of the court throughout the playoffs.
Though it doesn't happen often, Wiggins can reliably come to the rescue with isolation or post-up creation when his team needs him, as he did on this fadeaway in the first quarter of Game 4. This is nothing new for Wiggins, however, who has gone from a disappointing would-be franchise player as a No. 1 overall pick with the Timberwolves to an absolutely elite role player with a Warriors team that sits two wins away from its fourth NBA championship in eight seasons. He needs at least a couple of teammates to come along for the ride -- and if you look up and down the roster, Wiggins is the one who's been sitting shotgun with Curry at the wheel this whole time. It's clear that it's going to take at least two more herculean efforts from Curry if the Warriors are going to beat what looks like, on paper at least, a superior Celtics squad. But every once in a while, when the Warriors' offense collapses and the shot clock runs down, they need someone who can get a bucket. "I just want to win. On the next Warriors possession, Thompson hit a 3-pointer that gave Golden State a lead it wouldn't relinquish. He came crashing in from the weak side with reckless abandon for 13 defensive rebounds, and also came up with three offensive rebounds, none more important than this put-back on Jordan Poole's missed layup with just under five minutes remaining. At plus-20 for the night, he gracefully played Mercutio to Curry's Romeo performance of 43 points and 10 rebounds on 7-for-14 3-point shooting, as the Warriors pulled out a gritty, inspiring 107-97 win to tie the series at 2-2. Tatum is shooting just 50 percent in the restricted area during the Finals, compared to 68 percent in the regular season. After an 8-for-23 performance in Game 4, Tatum is now averaging 22.3 points in the Finals on 34 percent shooting. Stephen Curry, we knew, would bring it on a nightly basis, and he's exceeded expectations against the Boston Celtics so far with masterpiece after masterpiece.

The Celtics looked more composed speed and pace wise, particularly in the first half, but were prone to turnovers. But as a three-time NBA champion coach, Kerr has been in difficult situations before and he backed his judgement by making big calls at the right times. It worked as the Warriors fought from behind to take the lead and never relinquished it. The Warriors had various aspects they were looking to improve on coming in and they ticked every box. But Boston, despite some big plays from that pair and from Robert Williams III on the defensive end, did not have enough. Andrew Wiggins pulled down the most boards of his career, 16 of them, to go with 17 points.
The NBA Finals return to Chase Center for a pivotal Game 5 matchup between the Warriors and Celtics.
Marcus Smart, Derrick White and Al Horford also have had their moments offensively for the Celtics in the Finals, who as a team are shooting 49 percent in their wins and 39 percent in their losses. He’s averaging 34.3 points while shooting over 49 percent (both overall and on 3-pointers), and he’s made no fewer than five threes in any game in these Finals. Should he keep up at this pace, this will be Curry’s highest scoring performance in his NBA Finals career, and the third highest scoring postseason series overall. He’s averaging 3.0 blocks per game and has the second best average plus-minus rating (+5.0) among players who play at least 15 minutes a game in this series, trailing only Looney. The Celtics have been the best road team during this postseason, and they’ll need that to ring true at least one more time to keep their Championship hopes alive. AST: Tatum (6.2) Wiggins has been dealt the tough task of defending Boston’s All-NBA star Jayson Tatum. And just as he did against Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Finals, Wiggins is making Tatum work for everything he gets in The Finals. Tatum is averaging 22.3 points while shooting 34.1 percent from the field, down from the 27.0 points on 44.6 percent shooting he had through the first three rounds of the postseason. In fact, the Warriors have outscored the Celtics by a single point (422-421) through the first four games. Curry made seven threes in the game and Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the win, which tied the series up at 2-2. AST: Green (6.2) Stephen Curry had 43 points and the Warriors ended a tightly contested game with a 17-3 run to win Game 4, 107-97, in Boston on Friday night. The Warriors have won the third quarter in each of the first four games of the series and are a cumulative plus-49 in that period for the series, but Boston rode dominant fourth quarters to each of their wins in Games 1 and 3. AST: 27.2 (1st) The Dubs have gone 10-1 at home this postseason, and with three games at most left in the series, the Warriors can and will use any edge they can with each team two wins away from an NBA Championship. If Monday’s Game 5 plays out anything like the first four games, it will be decided in the second half, as the team who has won the second half has won each of the first four games in the series.
The Boston Celtics admitted Friday night what everyone who watched Game 4 already knew: they were far too stagnant throughout Game 4.
Those two players and the Celtics as a whole now set their sights on getting igniting the offense when Game 5 arrives Monday night. They are oftentimes unguardable when the ball is popping from player to player, and when players are consistently cutting off the ball. They did not do either of those things on a consistent basis Friday night, and every player or coach who took to the postgame podium admitted as much. Jayson Tatum felt the brunt of that loading up Friday night, as he shot a woeful 4-for-15 from inside the 3-point arc. Boston’s recipe for success at the offensive end is ball and player movement. The Celtics lacked energy and movement throughout the game at the offensive end, which resulted in only 22 assists compared to 15 turnovers.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr benched Draymond Green for part of the fourth quarter in Golden State's Game 4 victory.
ABC ABC ABC Overall though, Green was benched for about five minutes in the fourth quarter of a pivotal Game 4. "We took him out and put Loon in around maybe the eight-minute mark maybe, 7:40, which was our plan, anyway," Kerr said postgame. After three quarters, Green had a decent stat line of five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Through four games, Green is averaging 4.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists. His average points per game changed drastically from the rest of the Warriors' ...
It’s not the toughest thing I’ve had to deal with in my life thus far. The Warriors ended up winning 107–97 to tie the series at two games a piece. the Mavericks, for example, the forward averaged 10.6 points per game, even scoring 17 points in Game 5 to help secure Golden State’s spot in the finals. Basketball fans just witnessed the best game of the 2022 NBA Finals, so far.
In the final five minutes they were outscored 17-3, shooting a woeful 1-8 from the field. Joining teammate Klay Thompson in the history books. Tatum, the focal point of the Celtics offensive, didn’t register a shot over the final three and a half minutes of the contest. Hmmmm I have never seen this either!” she wrote. In a contest that went down to the wire, the Golden State Warriors emerged victorious 107-97 to level the series up at 2-2 as the Finals now head back to Golden State for Game 5. A struggling NBA star has been copping it from all corners and now his own mum is joining in the pile on and she did not hold back.
The Finals could be determined by the availability and effectiveness of Draymond Green, Kevon Looney and Robert Williams III.
Kerr still had to make the call in the moment, and it was one of the best moves he has made in the series. If the same situation arises in Games 5 or 6 or maybe even 7, Kerr might have to do it again. He's gotten a bunch of baskets around the rim, shooting 13-of-18 as he gets putbacks and dump-offs when attention goes elsewhere. It has been working: After missing seven of the Celtics' first 14 playoff games, he has played eight in a row. Kerr made it sound like it was the plan all along to reduce Green's minutes; the power forward played a series-low 33. He had a playoff career-high 12 rebounds Friday. When he has been on the floor, the Celtics are +20 in the four games. Recovering from knee surgery late in the season and a bone bruise in his left knee, Williams' life has been all about playing and treatment on the knee for weeks. When he was on the floor in Game 4, the Celtics outscored the Warriors by six points. Then Kerr decided to play Green only on defense as much as possible in the final minutes, once even calling a timeout to take him out of the game. Then there's the brewing scenario with Green, who has been so limited on offense in these Finals that Williams will often guard him because it allows freelancing elsewhere. It was as simple as Green not playing well and the player he went to, Kevon Looney, was. It wasn’t until a year ago that the idea of getting back in contact was first sparked by Ken finding his ticket stub while he was in the process of moving. “The game changed for us right there and it became all about Chase’s experience that night,” Ken said. “I just thought there’s so many times that you help a customer because it’s the right thing to do, and I kind of felt like that at the time,” Mary said. “I remember handing them up to him, and then thinking, ‘What did I just do?'” Mary said with a laugh.
