Golden State Warriors vs Boston Celtics Jun 8, 2022 Game - Scores ... (NBA.com)

The Celtics look to right the ship and embrace the comforts of home on Wednesday when they host Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

If I can get in those one-on-one matchups and be able to play-make out of that and read the defense well, we can create a lot of good shots. Then when we have good offense and good shots, that helps our defense a lot. And Boston will try to rebound against a Golden State team that has won at least one road game in each of its last 26 playoff series, an NBA record run that began in 2013. The status of Celtics big man Robert Williams III could be something to watch after he was listed as questionable with left knee soreness. Right now, we're here playing a different opponent, a different team, and we've got to look at it as such. Unfortunately for Boston, it was done in by being outscored 35-14 in a disastrous third quarter on Sunday to see a modest halftime deficit balloon to 23 points.

'Straight up bullying': Celtics survive slump as star savaged over 'embarrassing' game.

A worrying element of the game for Steve Kerr’s side was the differential in rebounds, as Golden State had a total of 30 rebounds to the Celtics’ 47. As the Celtics took a 33-22 lead to end the first quarter, Thompson and the Warriors found a pulse. The Boston Celtics survived a third quarter slump to defeat the Golden State Warriors 116-100 to take a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

Celtics pull away in NBA Finals series (7NEWS.com.au)

The Boston Celtics have taken a 2-1 series lead in the NBA Finals after a 116-110 win over Golden State Warriors in Game 3 on Wednesday.

"The injury didn't force him out of the game, but I took him out down 14 with two minutes left because we weren't going to catch up," Kerr said. "Game 2, they brought the heat to us," Smart said. We respond to teams going on runs and things like that," he said. Tatum made two foul shots to start the fourth quarter and steer Boston to a 107-96 lead with 5:53 to play. "I think we did that several times tonight." Jaylen Brown scored 17 of his 27 points in the first quarter and Jayson Tatum finished with 26 points to lift the hosts in Game 3 on Wednesday.

NBA Finals: Celtics defeat Warriors by double-digits in Game 3, take ... (The Athletic)

The Boston Celtics survived yet another bad third quarter in the NBA Finals, and as a result are just two wins from an NBA-best 18th championship.

Golden State never got closer, and Tatum’s emphatic drive to the hoop through traffic for a 107-96 advantage with 5:51 left was a punch into the Warriors’ breast bone. And then with 3:43 remaining in the period Curry nailed another 3 for an 83-82 lead. On the same play where Green fouled out, Horford dove for a loose ball and fell on top of Curry’s left ankle. “For us, that left a bad taste in our mouth because what we hang our hat on is effort on the defensive end and being a physical team. “The energy from our fans was contagious. “I know Steph is going to do everything he can in his power to play. He has 94 points in three games, but he could be in for a tougher Game 4 due to an ankle injury suffered late in the fourth quarter. Jayson Tatum scored 26 points, including eight in a sterling fourth quarter for the home team in which Boston outscored the Warriors 23-11. "I just think I never found a rhythm, really on both ends of the floor," Green said when asked how he thought he played. “We need him if we want to win this thing,” Thompson added. Jaylen Brown scored 22 of his 27 points in the first half for Boston and the Celtics won Game 3 over the Golden State Warriors, 116-100. “And not much else to say.

Poised Celtics start fast, hold off Warriors for 2-1 lead in NBA Finals (The Washington Post)

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum powered the Celtics to a 116-100 Game 3 victory on Wednesday in Boston.

Fittingly, it was Brown who delivered the knockout blow, swatting a Thompson shot out of bounds in the game’s closing minutes. Curry stayed on the court and appeared to be in some pain, but Warriors Coach Steve Kerr said that the extent of a possible injury wouldn’t be known until Thursday. When it mattered in Game 3, the Celtics channeled plenty of poise, smothering the Warriors’ supporting cast and outlasting their hot-shooting stars. It was the same thing I did against Boston in the regular season, but not as bad." “Jayson and Smart did a great job of staying composed down the stretch. He buried his first jumper, maneuvered to the rim multiple times and scored 17 of his team-high 27 points in a magnificent first quarter. Green finished with two points and four rebounds, and he fouled out in 35 minutes. By closing out the win, Boston improved to 7-0 after a loss during this postseason. The Celtics coasted into halftime with a 12-point lead, but they faced a big test shortly after intermission. As Curry descended, Horford slid into his landing zone while attempting to contest the shot, an action that drew a flagrant foul upon the official’s review. The second-chance points and offensive rebounding were huge for us.” After exchanging double-digit wins in the first two games, Boston quickly built an 18-point lead in the second quarter.

NBA Finals: Warriors overwhelmed by Celtics' athletic physicality in ... (CBSSports.com)

The younger, stronger Boston roster imposed its will on the Warriors from the jump.

If they go small, they run the risk of what happened on Wednesday: getting buried on the glass and dominated in the paint. Overall, it just seemed like the Warriors were being sent to the floor more in Game 3. "So we weren't able to find that two-way combination other than that stretch in the third when Steph really got hot. He misses the put-back, but it's indicative of the type of effort and physicality the Celtics played with all night. If the Warriors go big, they sacrifice shooting and spacing on the offensive end. Then Brown recovered and used his length to cut off the pass to the corner. "We made several stops, especially in the second half where we had a chance to cut into the lead or make a little push, and they got offensive boards. Finally, Brown stayed connected as he trailed Thompson on the cut through the lane, then used his athleticism and timing to erase the shot at the rim. The Celtics also displayed their force on the offensive glass, edging the Warriors 15-6, which led to a 22-11 advantage in second-chance points. The Boston Celtics took a 2-1 lead in the NBA finals on Wednesday with a 116-100 Game 3 win, and it's not one that the Golden State Warriors will soon forget. But the Celtics earned the bulk of their offensive rebounds through determination and strength. "Game 2, they brought the heat to us.

Sam Smith, of Indianapolis, won a title in the ABA. He died last month. Weeks before his death, he posed in a photo, a message to the NBA.

"It broke my heart seeing what a big fan he was of the NBA and the players," Tarter said. "He was a gentleman. He went to work the night shift at Ford and cared for his family, including Helen, son Sammy and daughter Felicia. Smith had been healthy, for the most part. Doctors at first thought it was a heart attack, said Helen. He decided to quit basketball. That's why he wanted that photo on his hospital bed weeks before his death to mean something. INDIANAPOLIS -- When Sam Smith died in his modest home on the east side of Indianapolis, he died a man who not long before had swallowed his pride and made a phone call to ask for gas money. That amounts to one third of what the NBA donates to charity each year from the player fines the league takes in, he said. In the final 15 seconds of the game, the score tied 51-51, Smith made the game-winning basket for the national championship. Many of the ABA players never got to the NBA after the merger. "He grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him," said Tarter, who took the photo. It was a photo Smith wanted people to see.

“It might seem like a part of the game that is overlooked, but setting good screens is so key in a game like this,” Jaylen Brown said. He switched under screens to prevent free slips to the rim. When Green hits Klay Thompson coming off a screen on the weakside, Smart darts to the nail to contest Thompson’s pull up, forcing a pass back out to Green. From there, he hops back out to cover the ball as every other Celtic takes away Golden State’s movement. But he also took and made some of the biggest shots of the game. On what may end up being the most important play of the game, Smart took advantage of every Warrior momentarily forgetting he existed by crashing the offensive glass and instigating the six-car pileup that led to Green’s sixth foul and Curry’s foot injury. Game 3 of the NBA Finals boiled the Marcus Smart experience down to its purest form.

3 Things We Learned From Celtics-Warriors NBA Finals Game 3 On ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Boston Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors 116-100 in Game 3 of the 2022 NBA Finals on Wednesday to take a 2-1 series lead.

The Warriors look absolutely gassed late in these games and for the Celtics, they take advantage of this since they have an overall more athletic team than the Warriors. When they have held leads, the Warriors have had trouble holding them and this has directly affected their ability to close out games in the fourth quarter. In Game 2, Smart finished with just 2 points on 1-6 shooting and really did not make an impact whatsoever. Let’s take a look at some of the key takeaways from this game and how the series could play out given what happened in Boston’s win on Wednesday night. They always looked one step ahead of the Warriors and most importantly, they played more physically than the Warriors. Boston’s offense was firing on all cylinders out of the gates, as they were not only hitting shots from the perimeter, but attacking the Warriors’ defense on the interior as well.

Inside The Box Score: 2022 NBA Finals, Game 3 (NBA.com)

Take a closer look at Boston's 116-100 victory over Golden State in Game 3 with a deep dive into all aspects of the box score.

• The Celtics doubled the Warriors in second-chance points and nearly tripled them in offensive rebounds (15-6) in Game 3. • Jayson Tatum scored just nine points on 3-of-15 shooting when defended by either Andrew Wiggins (8:47 of matchup time) or Klay Thompson (4:11) in Game 3. • Tatum accounted for a quarter of Boston’s points (25%) and more than a third of Boston’s assists (37.5%) in his game-high 41 minutes on the court. • Curry’s next two most frequent defenders – Derrick White (3:39) and Jayson Tatum (2:02) – did not have similar success in stifling Curry as he scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Brown scored five points on 2-of-2 shooting in 4:03 against Klay Thompson and scored seven points on 2-of-3 shooting in just 1:39 against Gary Payton II. That comes after Curry had held his matchups to a combined 9-of-25 (36%) shooting in the first two games of the Finals. • The Celtics took much better care of the ball in Game 3, particularly in the second half as only four of their 12 turnovers came after halftime. • Effective field goal percentage was the only one of the four factors that was not dominated by Boston in Game 3. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart all scored 10 points in the paint for the Celtics, compared to just Andrew Wiggins in double-figures for the Warriors. • Curry accounted for 38.8% of Golden State’s points while he was on the court, leading all players. Jaylen Brown led all players with 11 points off turnovers, while the Warriors were led by Andrew Wiggins and Steph Curry with six points apiece. • Entering Game 3, the Celtics were 6-0 in the postseason following a loss, winning those six games by an average of 15.5 points.

4 things to watch for in Game 4 of NBA Finals (NBA.com)

After a hectic Game 3 at raucous TD Garden, the Celtics search for a 3-1 lead while the Warriors attempt to pull even in the series.

“I have to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball,” he admitted. There’s really no secret here: Draymond Green must shake off his lethargy and Looney must recapture the spirit and impact he had against the Mavericks, when he was a factor at both ends. He still hasn’t reached double figures in scoring, and while that’s not a big requirement of him, he passes up chances that often lead to turnovers or tougher shots for his teammates. Not so in this series because the Celtics are thriving — and also keeping their fingers crossed that Robert Williams III can remain upright. He’s obviously a growing problem for the Warriors, who must pay him the same level of respect as they give Tatum. Mainly because Brown has the ball in his hands nearly as much and has improved as a playmaker. June is a sympathy-free month in the NBA. A championship is on the line and teams will do whatever necessary to win one. The way I learn things is by putting me in the middle of it. But the smaller and quicker Warriors made Williams somewhat obsolete, at least until Wednesday when Williams finally had positive stretches. The game is getting physical though, so not only must his jump shot continue to cooperate, his body must too. What’s also noticeable about Brown is how he’s unflinching in the bright lights. But anytime there’s a foot issue with Curry, the sensitivity meter is through the roof given his history of ankle sprains. “It’s just a pain tolerance thing that you’ve got to deal with,” he said.
