Resident Evil 4 remake is coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC in March 2023 (The Verge)

At PlayStation's State of Play event, Capcom announced a release date and revealed a trailer for a modern remake of Resident Evil 4.

Try guarding using both of your arms and Ethan will guard in the same way; hold up a gun and Ethan will hold up his. “We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it,” Capcom wrote in a blog post. Capcom also says the game will feature some kind of support for the next iteration of PlayStation VR. You can check out the first trailer above to see what a next-gen Leon Kennedy looks like.

Seems like the madmen over at Capcom just couldn't help themselves.

I fully expect much of the conversation moving forward to be about whether Resident Evil 4 actually needs to be refurbished, especially considering its legendarily eternal status in the gaming zeitgeist. All that said, it feels like the Resident Evil remake formula is already wearing thin. Capcom eventually reinvented the wheel again with 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard by moving to first person, a welcome point-of-view change that also carried over into last year’s Resident Evil Village.

We’d expected to hear more on PlayStation VR 2, a thoroughly updated successor to Sony’s original VR headset, which was launched for the PS4 in 2016. There was also a new trailer for the cyberpunk kitten adventure Stray, which also has a release date – 19 July. The teaser for the game also promised virtual reality content for the PlayStation VR headset.

The latest reports from the rumour mill suggest that the project was subject to a "partial reboot" within Capcom due to internal disagreements over its direction. And, per Capcom, we'll get to enjoy the remake on Xbox Series S and X and PC as well.

Leon's jacket from Resident Evil 4 may be one of the best pieces of clothing in the series (right up there with Ada Wong's wildly impractical dress and… Cross-referencing the jacket with the one we faintly see in the teaser, there are a few similarities: the sheepskin lining at 1:07 matches up precisely (as do the tapered cuffs), then a couple of seconds later at 1:09 we see the cross-shaped seam on the back as well as the seam running down the back of the arms, which again checks out.
