The "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series at Disney+ is rounding out its cast with five new additions, Variety has learned exclusively.
The live-action “Percy Jackson” show tells the fantastical tale of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod (Scobell), who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Mullally (“Will & Grace,” “Party Down,” “Children’s Hospital”) will play Alecto, a.k.a. Mrs. Dodds. Mrs. Dodds is Percy’s strict, irascible math teacher who may act monstrous at times, because she is. Salke was formerly the president of Touchstone Television and originally put the show into development. Sally raised her son knowing that one day she’ll have to give him up to the dangerous world of the Olympian gods. Sharp (“Enlightened,” “Blunt Talk,” “On the Verge”) will play Gabe Ugliano, Sally’s selfish, brash, and combative husband as well as Percy’s stepfather. Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally and Timm Sharp are all set to appear in recurring guest star roles in the small screen adaptation of the popular Rick Riordan book series.

Jason Mantzoukas, Virginia Kull, Megan Mullaly, Glynn Turman, and Timm Sharp have all been added in recurring guest star roles for the series.
The Disney+ Percy Jackson show continues to round out its cast by adding actors to play three major characters – Sally Jackson, Chiron, and Mr. D.
Though these actors have decades of experience in television and are more than qualified to play their respective roles in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, these castings will likely continue to cause backlash, just as Jeffries' casting as Annabeth did, for not matching their characters' appearances. Kull has appeared in a few acclaimed television shows like Boardwalk Empire and Big Little Lies and will now be playing the role of Percy's mortal mother, Sally Jackson, with her performance during episode 1's table read already moving some to tears, reveals Riordan. The Wire's Glynn Turman will play Chiron, a centaur who trains heroes at Camp Half-Blood and acts as Percy's mentor and father figure. Now, the Percy Jackson show is continuing to round out its cast. Announced directly through Rick Riordan's official website, the Percy Jackson show has cast actors to play three major characters from the books. The Disney+ series has already made waves by casting The Adam Project's Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, followed by Cheaper by the Dozen's Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood and Empire's Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase to complete the main trio. Riordan is now heavily involved in the Disney+ series and has a major say in casting and other creative decisions.
'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' announced five new cast members: Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman and Timm Sharp.
While Riordan left us with plenty of exciting news in one post, he promised there is more to come. Author Rick Riordan shared new adult cast members in a June 2 post on his blog, where he wrote, “The excitement is so thick you could cut it with a celestial bronze ballpoint pen!” Percy Jackson previously announced Walker Scobell will star in the titular role, along with Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries, who have been cast as Percy’s friends Grover and Annabeth. Today, Riordan unveiled an impressive list of five additional cast members, all of whom will appear in the first few episodes of the series.
A brand new adaptation of Rick Riordan's wildly popular Percy Jackson books is coming to Disney+, this time as a TV show. Here's everything to know about ...
The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will contain a total of eight episodes, according to Riordan. She will be a role model for new generations of girls who will see in her the kind of hero they want to be." Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be released on Disney+, which also boasts the full Marvel and Star Wars catalogs, as well as Disney and Pixar animation, Disney Channel originals, and more Disney Plus-exclusive series and movies. On Tuesday, May 10, Rick Riordan condemned the backlash as racist and defended the actress as "perfect" for the role. "Leah is exactly the way I imagined Annabeth in the books: smart, strong, and courageous, a true daughter of Athena who has zero patience for the foolishness of a certain Seaweed Brain. Watching her act with Walker and Aryan, I saw Annabeth Chase come to life. Scobell was already a "super-fan" of the books and happened to be wearing an orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt when Riordan surprised him with the casting news. Annabeth Chase: In May 2022, it was announced that Leah Sava Jeffries will play Annabeth Chase, the brilliant strategist, and daughter of the Greek goddess Athena who teams up with Percy at Camp Half-Blood and beyond. (When the first movie was released in 2010, Logan Lerman was 18, Alexandra Daddario was 24, and Brandon T. Jackson was 26.) "The goal is to stay true to the original story and have Percy's character age from 12 to 16 over the course of the TV series, assuming of course we are lucky enough to make all five seasons," Rick Riordan wrote in a blog post announcing a preliminary casting call in April 2021. "In other words, he is the perfect Chiron, the immortal centaur and trainer of heroes at Camp Half-Blood." On Thursday June 2, the first day of filming on the pilot episode, five more cast members were announced, including the actors who will play everyone's favorite centaur, Chiron, and Percy's mom, Sally Jackson. Riordan unveiled the new cast members in a post on his website. Riordan wrote, "Self-described as '100% Greek,' Jason is the perfect guy to inhabit everyone's favorite grumpy wine god and head of camp, Dionysus." Fortunately, Riordan is deeply involved with the new series, which he promises will be a more faithful adaptation, and he frequently shares optimistic updates on his website.
