He can play a number of roles and he has been one of our best at the level. The son of racehorse trainer David Hayes, Hayes is a former Bulldog and has been playing for the Blues at VFL level this year. What the Dockers said: He possesses an impressive vertical leap, superb ground-level game for his size and is very quick on the lead. “He backs himself in the air, he’s a calming influence in defence and he makes the right decision coming out of the back half. What Durdin said: “I’m very fortunate to have a second crack at it - not many guys do,” Durdin told the AFL.com.au broadcast, saying he had developed since his time at North. He said he wasn’t sure of his draft chances until it was confirmed he would be picked up by Carlton this week, with key defender Jacob Weitering injured on the weekend. “He will hopefully play for the club this weekend in the VFL against Collingwood, before relocating to the Gold Coast and continuing his progression as a midfielder throughout this season.” He has a terrific attitude and will greatly benefit from working with our coaches and experienced forward group,” said the club’s recruiters. What the Crows said: “His early season form has been outstanding and clearly above SANFL level, he deserves an opportunity, he has done a lot of extra work and presented his body and conditioning in outstanding shape,” recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie said. We’re excited about what he can bring to our club, and look forward to welcoming him to Adelaide soon,” recruiting manager Geoff Parker said. What the Eagles said: “He has shown outstanding improvement in the first half of the year,” recruiting and list manager Rohan O’Brien said. What the Giants said: “Wade is an exciting tall prospect who has shone for Peel in the WAFL this year after limited football in the last two years. “He had a great game that day, I think mid-20 possessions and kicked the ball really well.

Dons domino causes chaos; Pies pounce on slider amid Freo shock: Draft Talking Pts.

He’d been linked to Adelaide and Geelong, while Carlton had also monitored him. But the Bombers pounced on D’Ambrosio after putting work into the left-footer in recent weeks. Yet the Crows, who’d assessed Carmichael closely, were wedded to Brett Turner, selecting the mature-aged Glenelg midfielder at Pick 4. But Sydney had also been strongly linked to Hall-Kahan – and the Swans were happy to pounce on the exciting goalkicker at Pick 11, which was four selections before St Kilda. The Saints, ultimately, passed at Pick 15, although it’s understood the Saints were always open to the prospect of passing. Collingwood had long been linked to a key-position defender at Pick 9, particularly after the retirement of Jordan Roughead last week and the array of injuries to tall players in both arcs. Williams had been closely linked to North Melbourne after it opened up a second list spot with the retirement of Tom Lynch. And when the Giants, Hawks and Power opted for key-position players and ruckmen and the Suns snared Bendigo Pioneers on-baller Oskar Faulkhead, Carmichael was still on the board – weeks after being linked to the Eagles at Pick 1. “Going into the draft we had five names on the board – a mixture of talls and mids – and we were really fortunate to have Josh there,” Collingwood recruiting manager Derek Hine told the club’s website. St Kilda had been very keen on hybrid forward Hugo Hall-Kahan, particularly after the club tried to nominate him as an NGA prospect as it discovered late in the picture he was eligible under rules – a request the AFL ultimately denied. West Adelaide’s Josh Carmichael had been linked to clubs as early in the draft as West Coast at Pick 1, but many rival clubs expected him to go to Essendon. And despite being linked to big-bodied midfielder Josh Carmichael and showing interest in Bendigo Pioneers on-baller Oskar Faulkhead, the Bombers opted for a crafty ball user off half-back. After the first two picks went to plan, Essendon pulled the trigger with an eyebrow-raising suggestion that set the tone for the rest of the night.
