The 10 best Clint Eastwood directed movies (Far Out Magazine)

Take a look at our list of the filmmaker's ten very best directorial feats below, from his vital contributions to the western genre to his personal crime ...

Questioning the role of the American psyche in the creation of an unfavourable contemporary culture, Eastwood’s film holds an enduring appeal, with the director starring as a merciless killer turned pig farmer who is forced to return to his life of crime. An overlooked gem of western cinema, The Outlaw Josey Wales is Clint Eastwood’s best performance in the genre outside of Sergio Leone’s iconic Dollars trilogy. Winning Hilary Swank an Oscar for her leading performance, her powerful role is bolstered by the supporting actors of Morgan Freeman, Anthony Mackie, Jay Baruchel and Eastwood himself. Take a look at our list of the filmmaker’s ten very best directorial feats below, from his vital contributions to the western genre to his personal crime stories that almost always star him in the leading role. Based on Robert James Waller’s 1992 novel of the same name, The Bridges of Madison County, released in 1995, almost proved to be as commercially and critically successful as the beloved book itself. There are few actors that hold the same cinematic majesty as Clint Eastwood, the mystic western ‘man with no name’ and an actor widely considered to be one of the biggest stars of 20th-century filmmaking.

New Warner Bros. CEO Reportedly Wasn't Happy After He Found ... (Cinema Blend)

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav had a bit of a fire to put out after he found out how a recent Clint Eastwood flop got made.

The power of loyalty is an argument that cuts both ways, even on the Warner lot. Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ next test of cinematic marketing will be Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, fresh off of its polarizing debut at Cannes. That film will open in theaters on June 24th. David Zaslav’s approach to business at Warner Bros. probably has people wondering how far the loyalty to brand and personalities goes in terms of his decision-making. It probably didn’t help that Cry Macho simultaneously debuted on HBO Max, as part of the run of films that tested the waters for the future of movie exhibition. However, that sort of trust can only carry you so far, and those limits have apparently been tested over at Warner Bros. With new CEO David Zaslav trying to trim the fat, and cancelling the production of upcoming movies at the studio, his no-nonsense approach to running the company is in full effect. In fact, it’s probably the most important factor in deciding whether or not they’ll be a Fantastic Beasts 4 in theaters or on HBO Max.

WB Boss Reportedly Mad At Reason Clint Eastwood's New Movie ... (Screen Rant)

New Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was reportedly angry that Clint Eastwood's Cry Macho was greenlit, despite some initial reluctance.

Zaslav’s apparent anger over Cry Macho also illustrates how he’s pushing to create something new at Warner Bros. Discovery. For decades, Eastwood has been known as a filmmaker who does only one take, bringing his films in on time and under budget. It’s hardly surprising that Zaslav would take issue with backing a film that wasn’t expected to deliver much of a return. As The Wall Street Journal reports, during his first meeting with Warner executives, CEO David Zaslav apparently wasted no time in getting to the bottom of some important issues. Zaslav asked why the film was greenlit if there were reservations about its chances for success, only to be told that Eastwood always delivered his films on time and under budget. For Eastwood’s part, all four of the Oscars that he’s won over the years have been as a director and not an actor. And while Eastwood’s status as a Hollywood icon remains quite firmly intact, the recent changing of the guard at Warner Bros. Discovery promises new priorities for the studio.

CLINT EASTWOOD, who turns 92 today, has made many classic Westerns during his incredible career, but one saw him become so fed up with the director that ...

So if he’d stood up at the wrong time he could have been decapitated. If it goes on this way, in the next one I will be starring with the American cavalry.” According to Patrick McGilligan’s Clint: The Life and Legend, he told Leone: “In the first film, I was alone. Bobby suffers, Clint yawns.” The 36-year-old would wear the same poncho he did in the first two films without having it cleaned, but he initially wasn’t happy with the script. Luckily the noose had severed beforehand.

Warner Bros CEO reportedly unhappy about Clint Eastwood's last ... (The Digital Fix)

The new CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, David Zaslav, wasn't too happy with the fact that the studio made Clint Eastwood's last movie Cry Macho.

The film only grossed $15 million against a $33 million budget and failed to garner critical acclaim. Based on N. Richard Nash’s novel of the same name, Cry Macho follows the story of a retired rodeo star (Eastwood) who is hired to reunite a young boy and his father. Clint Eastwood is one of those rare cases where an actor makes the jump into directorial duties and becomes a smash hit.
