Brown stars as Eels overpower Raiders in absorbing win (NRL.COM)

Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown put on a show in the nation's capital with two tries as the Eels overpowered a gutsy Raiders outfit 28-20 at GIO Stadium.

A couple of line breaks in the second half turned it [for them]. They're in the main section of the ladder and we showed we can match it with them. It went end to end and while ever they're turning up with that type of effort we'll keep developing into the team we want to get to. We only had five set starts in the second half which is very low. I thought our back five were outstanding in the backfield tonight." I don't think we had any football down the other end of the field. "Our second half defence was excellent, we were courageous on our try line.

Parramatta held on to win a back-and-forth NRL tussle in Canberra on Sunday, seeing off the Raiders 28-20 at GIO Stadium.

Brown was in sparkling touch and scored via a patient run and silky dummy, while another line break was capped by a Simonsson try in the corner. But they looked home 14 minutes from time when Brown crossed again, benefiting from a huge Shaun Lane line break after their defence absorbed plenty from the Raiders. After falling behind 20-16 early in the second half, Parramatta drew level when a classy Brown break ended with a diving effort for Simonsson's second try, with another ice-cold Mitch Moses conversion putting the visitors ahead 22-20.

'That's Dyl': Brown does it all as Eels down Raiders in Canberra (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Eels coach Brad Arthur only needed two words to sum up the performance of a playmaker with the world at his feet as his side snapped Canberra's three-game ...

“His strength is his running game and when we provide momentum he can play off the back of it. Defensively, the desperation was outstanding.” A few plays later Shaun Lane split the defence and put Brown over for his second. A 21-year-old with No. 6 on his back. On the other side of the coin, Canberra five-eighth Jack Wighton arrived needing something special to force his way from an extended bench into Fittler’s 17. Which Eel got the steal?

It wasn't the result Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart wanted, but it did show the Green Machine wasn't...

"He's going to develop into a very good young player. Covering the Raiders, Cavalry, cycling and racing, plus everything else that involves sport in the ACT, for The Canberra Times. Basically I love sport and watching it is a full-time job. "I certainly wouldn't be intimidated by any team. "You're playing against a team that's up there around the top of the main section of the teams and we showed we could match it with them," Stuart said. Advertisement

Brown stuns as Eels star 'haunts' ex-club; brave Raiders duo lead the way: 3 Big Hits.

“A typical winger’s dive for the corner… He had three try assists for the season last year and he’s already bettered those numbers.” Not easy to do that (bumping off Papalii) and beats Xavier Savage with another bit of brilliant footwork there from Dylan Brown. Adam Elliott 14. Elliott Whitehead 13. “Papalii has been brilliant with three offloads and plenty of metres — and he spent time off the field for a HIA — so an incredible first half from Papalii.” Papalii notched up 84 running metres and three offloads in the first half alone and that’s with 15 minutes on the sideline due to a HIA. “What about the game from the Parramatta No.6… what a game,” Alexander said after Brown’s second try. “This has been a real bounce back from a very underwhelming season from Brown last year by the numbers. “He has got it hasn’t it and we’ve seen it a number of times this year,” Voss said of Brown’s footwork. “He’s such a well-balanced runner of the footy,” Fox League expert Greg Alexander said. But the story of the game was Moses’ halves partner Dylan Brown who scored a double and notched up 153 running metres.
