A love letter to the European Cup and Reds from TAW's Neil Atkinson (Liverpool FC)

Ahead of the Champions League final, The Anfield Wrap's Neil Atkinson has produced a special column for Liverpoolfc.com on his love for the European Cup and ...

They deserve that, they deserve to lift the trophy the way they have lifted us – with togetherness, panache and joy. These players, these explosions of joy and colour are led by a manager who wants that sheer exuberance to be at every turn, who wants the best for us and for us to be the best versions of ourselves. The ones we waited for, the ones we conjured. The charge to the final in 2018 was the most pulsating European run in years. Liverpool wringing the delight from every single situation, Liverpool wanting to be centre of attention. It was the time to shine.

Liverpool fans line streets for open top bus parade after Champions ... (Mirror.co.uk)

Liverpool have been met by legions of loving fans back home on Merseyside after their Champions League final nightmare which meant they finished the season ...

In the second half we didn't start great and they got hold of the game. We should have played more in the formation than around them. I think it's one of the reasons Jurgen wanted this today." We wanted to be more brave in the second half. I was vocal about not enjoying the success of their success," McAteer declared. "In the dressing room nobody feels it was a great season at the moment. We had a lot of shots but not the clearest. The boys tried everything, especially at 1-0 down then we played like we wanted to play before. We played a good game, not a perfect game. The scenes were a contrast to Liverpool's heartache less than 24 hours earlier, as Klopp vowed that his team would be back for another go next season. Liverpool's men's team and women's team - who won their respective division following a fantastic campaign of their own - gathered on open-top buses on Sunday afternoon, taking in the glory after another memorable term for Kopites around the world. The Reds were agonisingly beaten 1-0 their Spanish counterparts on Saturday in a showpiece that was marred by pre-match chaos, forcing kick-off to be delayed three times.

'Best fans in the world' - Players react to Reds' trophy parade (Liverpool FC)

Liverpool's players were left awestruck by the show of support they received during Sunday's end-of-season parade. The squads of Jürgen Klopp and Matt Beard ...

Of course after the defeat yesterday it feels sad but it’s impossible to be sad at this moment when we have all these people cheering for you and for the team. This feeling is amazing, to come out and celebrate with the fans, our families, our friends, it’s amazing. It’s a sad moment for us what happened last night, but if you can think of all the season – four defeats, two trophies, it’s an amazing season. Overall, we just have to be proud and that’s the feeling we have; the feeling that we can continue with this team to work overrules all the feelings of losing. It’s unreal, the fans are amazing and to be a part of the men’s celebrations and to celebrate ourselves as well is just amazing. It’s the least we can do to say thank you to them for what they’ve given us this season, supporting us across the country and across Europe, so we want to say thank you and it means a lot to the lads. We have to show the appreciation to them. They give us something to be happy about and to represent them, for all of us, is the biggest honour. This is the best remedy, to see your family after the game immediately if you lose and see all the fans with this pride – that’s the best remedy for losing a game like that. Obviously we were so disappointed with what happened last night, of course we are, but the minute you get on this bus you realise the best fans in the world have come out. I feel like we are in good hands, there is still so much more to come from this team. Obviously we are disappointed with last night and how the season ended, but overall the lads have given everything and this is what it means to the fans.

Three best photos from Liverpool parade sum up unique club as ... (Liverpool.com)

Some Liverpool players have been waiting far too long for a parade, Diogo Jota included. This event was a true celebration of what makes this club so ...

This was a party on a grand scale, a celebration in the face of adversity, a statement of what makes Liverpool Football Club truly special. It is hard not to keep repeating the point, but this parade came after a defeat. As the newest recruit, the Colombian was also experiencing all of this for the first time. But for much of the onlooking crowd, this was a repeat. Not all of the players on the bus were there for the last parade. There are far too many to create a definitive list, but here are some of the photos that raised a smile — and proved just how special this club is.

Champions League final lays bare what Liverpool FC need to win ... (Sporting News)

Liverpool competed in three major finals in 2022 without scoring a single goal, even though the Reds had an extra 30 minutes in two of them.

Its two most dynamic scoring threats, Mane and Salah, were even busier because their national teams, Senegal and Egypt, met in the final of the mid-season Africa Cup of Nations. In the season's final three months, Salah scored only four goals for LFC in all competitions; he had 27 before. It was a curious final game for Liverpool. They were able to essentially erase the attacking portion of the Real Madrid midfield. The Reds won the trophy in a slightly less phenomenal penalty shootout. He somehow recovered from a hamstring injury suffered only a week before in the final league game prior to play against Madrid, and he was himself for the first 50 minutes or so, but when Liverpool fell behind he was often too far removed from the attack to matter. The Reds won the trophy in a phenomenal penalty shootout. In the biggest games Liverpool FC played this season, and my goodness there were a lot of them, the team actually departed with more trophies than goals.
