Stranger Things Season 4: The Truth About Vecna - IGN (IGN)

Netflix has been pretty tight lipped about the villain of Stranger Things Season 4. Here's everything we know about Vecna after Part 1!

“Vecna was, in his time, one of the mightiest of all wizards. From the Eye and Hand of Vecna entries in the Fifth Edition Dungeon Master’s Guide: As Vecna, he uses these mental abilities as a way to psychologically weaken and lure in his victims – much in a way that Pennywise, Freddie Kruger, and Pinhead do. With that information, it’s no wonder why he targeted Max, who’s grieving the loss of Billy, and Nancy, who still feels guilt over Barb’s death all the way back in Season 1. The second victim we see in Season 4, Fred Bensen, was involved in a fatal car accident that clearly left him with some residual trauma and guilt. It’s also at the Creel House that Henry realized the extent of his powers; not only does he have strong telekinetic abilities, like Eleven, but he can also see into the minds of others, giving him the ability to both tap into their memories and force hallucinations on them. Henry proceeds to fall through that gate, going into the Upside Down, where he’s turned into the Vecna that we know today. However, it’s at that new home – which we now know as the Creel House – where Henry developed a fascination with spiders, and honed a cynical view of the world and humankind, one that rejects the traditional societal structures. Victor was arrested for the murders, but Henry still ended up in the care of Brenner. But before all of that, he was just a kid – and a Creel at that, the once-mysterious family introduced in Season 4. He was born Henry Creel (played by Raphael Luce as a child and Jamie Campbell Bower as an adult), and as his odd behavior worried his parents, the family moved to Hawkins for a fresh start. His identity was a mystery until the last episode of Season 4 Part I, where all was revealed.

Who is Vecna in Stranger Things 4? The villain explained (PopBuzz)

From his connection to the Upside Down, Victor Creel and more, here's your comprehensive guide to Vecna, Stranger Things 4's new villain.

It appears as though Vecna enters a dream-like state himself where he's able to hear the thoughts and confessions of everyone in the town. Once Vecna grabs their head within in the dream, their body on the outside world begins to float. As of episode 4, it's clear that Victor and Vecna are not the same person. Nancy and Robin then reveal what they learned from Victor: The victim's favourite song is able to pull them out of their trance. In their dream-like state, they will find themselves trapped and soon realise that Vecna is approaching them. In the show, his left hand is replaced by a Freddy Krueger-like claw and he has two very human-esque eyes. The victim will then start to hallucinate and see visions of dead relatives or their worst fears come to life. On the outside, they will remain unable to move but their eyes begin twitching and gloss over. Vecna is one of the greatest villains in Dungeons & Dragons history. All of Vecna’s victims appear to have one thing in common: They’re all harbouring some kind of deeply personal trouble. He is a powerful wizard who became a lich. But Stranger Things 4 has now introduced Vecna – a villain that makes Hawkins' previous threats look like child's play.

Stranger Things Season 4: Everything You Need To Know About ... (GameSpot)

And the big baddie's name is Vecna, another Upside Down villain named after a Dungeons & Dragons monster. More than any other season of the show so far, this is ...

This is not a quick attack out of nowhere; he taunts his prey and hunts his prey and plays with them, and that's scary." This is where he becomes Vecna. And he has extended powers that help tie all the seasons together a little bit better. And while it seems like Henry has the upper-hand, Eleven turns out to be stronger, and uses her powers to seemingly disintegrate Henry. What's left in his place is a portal to the Upside Down. "Vecna is the puppetmaster of all these monsters, and the Demogorgon is like this wild, rabid dog that was attacking people," explained Charlie Heaton--who plays Jonathan Byers--during a press event. This is where Henry utilizes his powers to kill everyone he sees in the lab. That led to the doctor starting a program where he would try to recreate the boy--with all his powers. However, because he was so powerful, a chip was implanted in him called Soteria--which tracks him and weakens his powers. Virginia Creel--his mother--knew young Henry was behind this and wanted to get him some help from a doctor to "lock him away," according to Henry. So he decided to kill his mother. Born Henry Creel (played by Raphael Luce when he's a child, Jamie Campbell Bower as an adult), he grew up in Hawkins. Henry was the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund), the man who supposedly murdered his family. Eventually, Vecna came back as a demigod, thanks to the cult that rose up in his absence. He mastered the dark arts, became a lich (an undead magician), and killed a whole lot of people. So we're giving a breakdown of who Vecna is and what he might want.

Who Is Vecna in 'Stranger Things 4'? The New Monster Has a ... (Cosmopolitan.com)

Vecna is the big monster in 'Stranger Things 4' and he has a big connection to Hawkins and Eleven. Find out more about him here.

For Max, it's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" by Kate Bush. While that's good intel to have, the team will have to figure out a different plan if they want to get rid of Vecna more permanently. Realizing that Eleven is different and more powerful than everyone else, One decides to reveal more of the truth to her in an effort to help them escape. Either way, he's definitely not welcome at Hawkins, and the team is trying to do everything to take him down. After waiting a long time, Eleven steps out and heads to the Rainbow Room to see that One killed everyone in retaliation. Much to One's surprise, Eleven ends up being more powerful than even him and she sends him to the Upside Down, creating a portal in the process and also turning One into Vecna. Eventually, the crew figures out through Max's experiences that Vecna targets those with extreme guilt, typically over the loss of someone, and uses a mind link to connect with them.

The Dark History of STRANGER THINGS 4's Vecna (Nerdist)

For 20 years Henry Creel remained the ward/employee/prisoner of Dr. Martin Brenner at Hawkins Lab. From what we've seen of Eleven's own time under Papa's “care, ...

Victor Creel told Robin and Nancy “all evil must have a home.” What he didn’t know, though, was that the Upside Down had become the home of his evil son. She sent Henry Creel into that world to serve as a soldier of the demonic dimension. (There’s always the chance that Vecna is doing his own thing and not working with the Mind Flayer. This isn’t clear yet.) He might exist in a world without time or order as he wished, but he’s no freer there than he was under Dr. Brenner. And the sense of purpose he found in life remains unfulfilled. And by attacking those who have experienced terrible trauma, especially individuals who feel responsible for the death of another, he can put them in a trance where they are all but defenseless. There the dark mirror world ripped apart his skin and transformed him into the Dark Wizard known as Vecna, another part of that plane’s hive mind. That device not only kept Henry in the lab it weakened him, making him unable to use his talents. Henry was able to make his own “rules” and “restore balance” to a world he saw as broken. Instead he decided to “break free” by killing his mother and sister and framing his father for the murders. The more he explored others the more he realized that people, like “everything else in this world,” were “all a lie, a terrible lie.” The truth is he did not just want to study me, he wanted more. She wanted the help of an expxert doctor, who Henry said would lock him up and “fix” him. Victor Creel told Robin and Nancy his son was “sensitive.” Meanwhile, when speaking to Eleven, Henry said “something was wrong” with him.
