As for when you can get one of these, the cameras and the lenses will arrive later this year but you can already pre-order them. The R7 offers a 32MP sensor while the R10 drops to 24MP. The R10 also doesn’t have the in-body stabilisation seen in the R7. It’s also a bit smaller, weighing just 426g. If you’re looking to shoot some video, the R7 can use the whole sensor to do 4K at 30fps or 4K at 60fps. You can still shoot sub-sampled 4K using a full sensor but that’ll be at 30fps. The EOS R7 tips the scales at just 612g. The 32MP EOS R7 is the higher end of the two.

The Canon EOS R7 camera body will sell for $1,499 and it will also be available in a set with the 18-150mm kit lens for $1,899. Not that I find it so surprising in the end: I suppose for Canon it is easier to just focus on one lens mount and offer cameras in all price ranges within that one mount. The connectivity is similar to the EOS R7, but the R10 does not have a headphone jack. The EOS R7 has a 32.5MP sensor with 5-axis IBIS and it can record up to 4K60 video without crop and with Canon Log 3. There is a full-sensor 4K UHD mode (oversampled from 6K) that is available in 24, 25, 30, and interestingly also in 50fps. The camera body features an OLED viewfinder with 2.36m dots resolution and 100% coverage as well as a flippy 3″ display with touchscreen. The camera uses the LP-E6 batteries (and their newer high-capacity versions). There is also a 4K UHD Fine mode which will produce a better-looking image by oversampling the whole 7K sensor, but it only works in 24, 25, or 30fps mode and it might also cause the camera to overheat in certain environments. Canon also includes Canon Log 3 (C-Log 3) picture profile in the camera. The EOS R10 does 4K60 with crop or up to 4K50 full sensor, but does not have IBIS and Canon Log 3. Canon is indeed underway to grow its RF mount lineup and migrate all camera classes to the mirrorless world. Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus covers 100% of the sensor and it works in both photo and video mode.

To go along with the new cameras, Canon has also announced two new lenses, the RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lenses which will be the standard zoom lenses for the EOS R7 and EOS R10 respectively. The 18-45mm will offer a filed of view equivalent to that of a 29-72mm lens on full-frame, while the 18-150mm would be equivalent to 29-240mm coverage on full-frame. If 4K 60fps video isn’t important to you, though, and you’ve got stabilised lenses or you’re always shooting with flash or in super bright conditions, then the EOS R10 could be a great option. It contains a 32.5-megapixel CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing, 4K video at up to 60 frames per second using the full width of the sensor, 15fps continuous shooting with the mechanical shutter or 30fps with the electronic shutter. The Canon EOS R10 is essentially the replacement for Canon’s Digital Rebel series of cameras, along with the EOS M50 Mark II – although Canon says neither of these has officially been discontinued just yet. You’d need a 10mm lens just to get the equivalent field of view to a 25mm on full-frame. Canon has used a smaller sensor on both of these new mirrorless cameras for the first time that helps them price the products lower for the consumer.

Canon EOS R10 is the cheaper of the two mirrorless cameras, and it packs a 24.2-megapixel sensor with a built-in flash. Canon has announced a slew of lenses that pair with these mirrorless cameras and they start from Rs 28,995. Canon EOS R10 body price starts from Rs 80,995 while you get the EOS R7 body for Rs 1,27,995 in the country.

The R7 can also do 4K 30fps full-width supersampled, or 4K 60fps with line-skipped full-width or 1.81x crop. However, it does not have a flash, which the R10 does. Along with the new DIGIC X processor, it can do 15fps burst with the mechanical shutter and 30fps with the electronic shutter. Coupled with a DIGIC X processor, the EOS R10 is capable of 15fps burst capture with the mechanical shutter and 23fps with the electronic shutter. There is a single UHS-II SD card slot under the battery cover, which also houses the smaller LP-E17 battery. The R10 has a revamped autofocus system from more expensive R-series camera that can now track people, animals, and vehicles.

If you squint, both of these new offerings from Canon might look like the same camera. Full-frame has been all the rage, but the Super 35-sized APS-C sensor hasn’t gone away. The slower readout of the APS-C sensor won’t give you the same performance, but it won’t be a slouch either. It will have the same high-speed shooting 15 fps mechanical shutter and autofocus features, sans the recognition modes. The cool thing is you’ll get full autofocus with the latter. With a full-frame finally cemented in place, Canon has finally set its eyes on the APS-C format. If that’s still too much resolution, you’ll also be able to go up to 120p in full HD.

Alongside the R7, Canon also announced the R10, a 24MP entry-level APS-C mirrorless camera for the RF mount. The R7 offers a maximum of 1/8000th second mechanical shutter speed and 1/16000th for its electronic shutter. The EOS R10 will go on sale in July at for $1,499 body-only. On the rear, the R7 has a 2.36M-dot OLED viewfinder and 1.62M-dot (900 x 600 pixel) fully-articulating 3” touchscreen. The R7 offers subject recognition modes, including animal, people and vehicle tracking. This includes Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, and head, face and eye detection over 100% of the frame.
