Erik Ten Hag Watches Manchester United Live Against Crystal Palace (Sports Illustrated)

New manager Erik ten Hag was at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park to watch Manchester United's final game of their worst season in Premier League history.

United will therefore be in the Europa League next season, while the Hammers will play Europa Conference League ball. There was no Cristiano Ronaldo for Ten Hag to watch, after the 37-year-old picked up a knock earlier in the week. The Dutchman will be in charge of United next season after signing a three-year contract to take over as manager.

Zaha excellent, Clyne brilliant: Crystal Palace player ratings after ... (Football.London)

Here's how our Crystal Palace writer Mark Wyatt rated the players following their 1-0 win over Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

Chased down some lost causes and almost stole himself into the box early in the second half but ran into traffic before being tackled. Has finished the season strongly for Palace and put in another good shift today. Made a sublime recovery tackle to stop Mejbri from getting a chance at goal in the box early in the second half.

Wilfried Zaha netted the only goal of the game at Selhurst Park, which saw Ralf Rangnick's final match as interim manager end in defeat.

Inside the final 10 minutes, there were calls for a penalty to United as Cavani appeared to be hauled down in the box – but appeals were waved away and there was no VAR intervention either. Into the final 30 minutes of the season and the Reds were continuing to search for a leveller. At the other end, Zaha was continuing to cause problems, dragging a shot wide of the post. The resulting set-play saw Scott McTominay left with a free hear at the back post – but he could only direct his effort right at the keeper. David De Gea was then forced into a couple of smart saves from the Palace left, first from Wilfried Zaha and then Jeffrey Schlupp, but the Spaniard dealt with both efforts comfortably. At the start of the second period, an early chance came United’s way when Cavani was fouled in Palace territory.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United LIVE (Manchester Evening News)

Man United lost to Crystal Palace today and we'll bring you live reaction from the final game of the season.

Game starting to open up and United don’t look convincing at the back. The game is not. Cavani is having a decent game in his first start since February 8. No better than he was at Brighton. Defended feebly and his reading of the play was dreadful. United have had some decent chances but their rhythm is non-existent and Schlupp has just tested De Gea again after some dire defending from Lindelof. Dalot and Lindelof were as bad as one another there. It was so chastening their supporters were more fixated on their phones, doubtless checking the scores at Anfield and the Etihad. It’s aimless and it’s cost his team a goal. Charlie Savage and Shola Shoretire are substitutes, as well as Alejandro Garnacho who has overcome illness to take his place on the bench. As minutes go that is a pretty dreadful one for United, given events elsewhere. A stock performance and result for his season. Made two decent saves at 0-0 and could do little about Wilfried Zaha's goal.

You’ve been behind us from the first whistle of our opening match to the final whistle of our most recent. "Team spirit, yes this is also an issue. Rangnick did not hold back in his assessment of a United squad that lost focus after they exited the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in March.
