In the Zone: Champions League final tactical analysis (UEFA.com)

UEFA's Technical Observer panel casts an expert eye over Saturday's UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Amid the incredible late drama that Madrid have scripted on their path to this final, they have also sought to make an early impact in matches with inventive kick-off routines. Three white shirts went in instant pursuit of the ball as Paris restarted at 2-1; they won it back and, in a flash, Benzema had his hat-trick. Back in 2018/19 the UEFA Champions League technical report highlighted Salah’s five shots on goal from set-plays cleared to the edge of the penalty box. In the following round, Ibrahima Konaté highlighted his aerial menace with strikes from corners in both legs against Benfica. As the heatmap of Alexander-Arnold’s touches underlines, he is ever more involved in the opposition half. As well as four assists, Alexander-Arnold has completed more crosses (23) than any other player in the 2021/22 competition, while Robertson (two assists) ranks joint-fourth in that category with 16.

How to bet Liverpool-Real Madrid UEFA Champions League Final (New York Post)

Taking place at the Stade de France, 2019 Champions League victors Liverpool will battle Real Madrid, winners of four UCL titles since the 2013-14 campaign.

For the reasons outlined above, I would play Liverpool up to -145 in regular time as I have it projected at -160. Add in its two group stage fixtures against Inter Milan and the discrepancy becomes even larger. In its last five UCL fixtures, Real’s offense has generated 1.76 xG/90 minutes. Additionally, Liverpool’s defense has played rock-steady in its last six UCL fixtures. Even if you remove the two Benfica matches from consideration, Liverpool’s offensive output drops to only 1.53 xG/90 minutes. This will be a rematch of the 2018 Champions League Final, which saw Real claim its third consecutive European crown after dispatching Liverpool, 3-1.

Champions League: Ranking the top 10 finals of all time (GiveMeSport)

With Liverpool set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League Final this weekend, football fans are gearing up for yet another exciting encounter on ...

Vladimír Šmicer was on target just two minutes later, before Xabi Alonso equalised in the 60th minute. Atletico had won La Liga just days before they were set to play Real in the Champions League Final – the stage was set for an intriguing encounter. Drogba stepped up to hit the winner in dramatic fashion. Wolfsburg equalised again through Verena Faißt, before Müller scored the winner 10 minutes from full-time. A 10-man Arsenal hung on to their lead until the 70th minute, before they finally caved in to their talented opponents. The Red Devils went ahead first through Cristiano Ronaldo, before Frank Lampard equalised just before half-time. Goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo put the fixture to bed. The second half was goalless, but still as entertaining. Juventus hit back through Alessandro Del Piero in the 65th minute, but Lars Ricken secured victory for Dortmund with a delectable chip just six minutes later. This seven-goal thriller in the Women’s Champions League is one for the ages. Although the majority of Chelsea and Bayern Munich’s encounter in the 2012 Champions League Final was goalless, the match will go down in history. The result was one of the greatest upsets in a Champions League Final.

UEFA Champions League final: When is it, who's favoured and how ... (The Athletic)

On Saturday, May 28 Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the 2022 Champions League final. Months of hard work, determination and improbable results will come ...

Once again, Benzema was the hero for Real Madrid, scoring from the spot in extra time. Ancelotti’s side were stunned at the Bernabeu, though, as Chelsea went 3-0 up with 15 minutes left to play. There, they met Chelsea, who had defeated them in the semi-finals of last season’s competition. Unai Emery’s Villarreal awaited Liverpool in the semi-finals, a tie which appeared foregone after an impressive 2-0 home victory in the first leg. In previous years, BT have made the Champions League (and Europa League) final available to watch for free on YouTube, but no announcement has yet been made on that. Real Madrid lost the first leg in Paris 1-0 and then conceded just before half-time in the return fixture at the Bernabeu. Just as it looked as though they were down and out, a sensational second-half hat-trick from captain Karim Benzema secured a place in the quarter-finals. Two first-half goals from Villarreal in the return fixture then jolted Liverpool into life, who secured their place in the final with three goals of their own after the break. Liverpool fans who want to leave England on Friday for a night in Paris before the match will have to pay for the privilege — a seat on the 7.25pm Easyjet flight costs £605.99, with flights the following morning just under £500. Liverpool supporters hoping to travel to Paris to watch their team play in the Champions League final against Real Madrid face huge sums to get there, with direct flights between north England and Paris exceeding £600. For this year’s final, 20,000 seats in the Stade de France will be allocated to fans of each of Liverpool and Real Madrid, with applicants able to buy two tickets. The 80,000-seater stadium hosted the Champions League final in 2000 and 2006, as well as the finals of Euro 2016 and the 1998 World Cup. As a result, this year’s final was due to take place at the original host of the 2021 final, Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena, with the Allianz Arena to host the showpiece event in 2023.

Champions League, Liverpool injury update: Thiago could miss final ... (CBSSports.com)

Liverpool have struggled with injuries down the stretch and Thiago's injury puts him at risk of missing the final.

You'd obviously rather have no injuries, but at least for Liverpool their injured group is on the mend, and will hopefully be ready for Saturday. The injury isn't thought to be serious, but it could keep him out of the Champions League final against Real Madrid due to the short turnaround for Saturday's match. One of Liverpool's important cogs could be out for the Champions League final.

How to watch Liverpool v Real Madrid for free in Champions League ... (talkSPORT.com)

Liverpool might not have won the Premier League title, but they can still end the year with three trophies. The Champions League is the last piece of s.

Liverpool won the first final back in 1981 (1-0), before Real Madrid beat Jürgen Klopp’s side 3-1 in 2018. The current-most is three, which was also by Real Madrid in the 2018 final (Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos). Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits and are available for use upon settlement of qualifying bets. In this period, Salah is one of only two players with 30+ goals and 10+ assists in the competition, along with Lionel Messi. - Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold could make his third appearance in a UEFA Champions League final. - This will be the ninth meeting between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League – after winning the first three between 1981 and 2009, the Reds are winless in the last five (D1 L4), including a defeat in the final in 2018. - Liverpool and Real Madrid will meet for the third time in the final of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, the most between two clubs across the history of the two competitions. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah said: “I’m so excited, I’m sure the team as well is so excited about it. - Liverpool are looking to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League for the seventh time in their history – a victory in Paris would take them level with AC Milan (7), and leave them only behind opponents Real Madrid (13) for the most overall victories across the two competitions. You can also listen via the talkSPORT app, on DAB digital radio, through your smart sparker and on 1089 or 1053 AM. - Karim Benzema has scored 15 goals for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League this season, just two behind the all-time record in a single European Cup/UEFA Champions League campaign (17, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013-14). If he scores in this game, Benzema would also become the outright third top scorer in the history of the two competitions (currently level with Robert Lewandowski on 86), behind Cristiano Ronaldo (140) and Lionel Messi (125). It’s revenge time.”

The Liverpool team news for Champions League final is looking dicey at the moment, but at least one player is 'definitely' not player as things stand.

Overall, the early Liverpool team news for Champions League final has some positives and negatives. This is a player who played a prominent role in some massive moments for the Merseysiders, including a Champions League final goal in 2019, after also scoring twice in that win over Barcelona in the previous round.

Liverpool will take on Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League on Saturday evening.

One individual who will be desperate to get revenge on Madrid is none other than Mohamed Salah, who saw his evening ended early by Sergio Ramos the last time the sides met in a European final. 'We're not done yet', wrote the Egypt international on Twitter as Saturday's showdown in the French capital edges ever closer. Liverpool missed out on securing a second Premier League title of Jurgen Klopp's reign on Sunday afternoon, with Manchester City rallying at home to Aston Villa to confirm their status as champions.

The 22-year-old defender is stretchered off in the early stages of Sunday's Champions League final after going down clutching her knee.

"Olympique Lyonnais deplores the serious injury of its defender Ellie Carpenter, out in the 14th minute of play during the final of the Women's Champions League played against Barcelona (3-1) in Turin," Lyon said in a statement on its website. Carpenter, who started in her first European final against Barcelona on Sunday, went down in the 12th minute of the match after pushing awkwardly off the grass to collect a long pass, immediately grabbing at the inside of her left knee. Matildas star Ellie Carpenter is in a race against time to make the 2023 Women's World Cup on home soil after her French club Olympique Lyonnais confirmed the defender ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the Champions League final.

Salah's face sums up Liverpool's Premier League heartache but ... (Goal.com)

The Egyptian was left devastated after Manchester City's comeback denied the Reds the Premier League title on a dramatic final day.

Salah struck in front of the Kop, his 23rd league goal of the campaign, and Klopp’s side led for the first time all day. Their only dropped points have come in draws away to Chelsea and Manchester City and at home to Tottenham; in other words, tight games against the teams directly above and below them in the table. Games against Brentford and Brighton stand out in that regard, and Klopp will certainly wish his side had held on when leading Manchester City at Anfield with nine minutes to go back in October. It deserves that support, that pride and that party. They believed for much of the afternoon, and they were given plenty of reason to as well. Liverpool, you sensed, knew it was gone, and yet still they summoned the strength to make it interesting. The kind of blitz which wins you a league title. The kind of blitz which leaves you dizzy. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff. They stayed behind long after the final whistle to salute their heroes, and rightly so. Good for Salah of course, although the award - his third in five seasons on Merseyside - will feel like scant consolation right now. The next goal.

One team has failed to score in each of the last three finals, which has me looking at under 2.5 goals for +105. The downside is these teams are rarely held scoreless and Real Madrid allowed at least one goal in each of their knockout matches. If Thiago and Fabinho both don't start, I think Real Madrid actually have an advantage because at that point, their midfield of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos would be better. Given injuries and that Liverpool don't have many wins against truly elite sides this season, backing Real Madrid seems the logical route. On one end, they were outplayed for almost 180 minutes in two legs against Manchester City, but on the other, they held strong and found a way to finish and come out on top. There's no doubt Liverpool had an easier run to get here, first topping an Inter Milan side Real Madrid already dealt with in group stages. In addition to playing Sunday (compared to Friday for Real Madrid), Liverpool lost Thiago Alcantara to a possible hamstring injury, while Fabinho remains a doubt and Virgil van Dijk hasn't played in two weeks.
