Hawthorn has broken a four-game losing streak with victory over Brisbane.
It was Frost's first goal at Hawthorn, and just the ninth of his 139-game career. Newcombe made his mark for Poowong in the Ellinbank & District Football League, before impressing Hawthorn personnel while playing for the Box Hill Hawks. Chad Wingard and Butler both added a second goal to their tally, as did Cameron. With Jack Gunston missing due to an ankle injury that he suffered during the round nine loss to Richmond, Sam Mitchell turned to an unlikely replacement to fill the void. Hawthorn reclaimed the lead inside the first minute of the final term when Moore kicked his second, making it a perfect 10.0 from set shots for the home side, but Daniel Rich's goal a minute later swung the margin back in the Lions' favour. Charlie Cameron marked with 23 seconds on the clock, and his goal after the siren - his only touch for the quarter - handed the Lions a six-point advantage at the first change.

Teammate Darcy Fort nearly robbed him on the goal line, but luckily the ruckman had a fresh air swing. Refusing to wilt, Hawthorn hit back with goals to Dylan Moore and Mitch Lewis in the space of a few minutes, reducing the margin to just 10 points. A long-range goal from Jaxon Prior was followed up by a great contested mark and set shot from Tom Fullarton as the Lions well and truly asserted their dominance, with Fullarton’s goal putting the margin out to 22 points. McCarthy fired within the opening 15 seconds of the third term to finish off some pure dominance from centre bounce for the Lions, with Cameron scoring eight minutes later for the second goal of the quarter and one that put the Lions up by 10 points. Hawks coach Sam Mitchell was all smiles when Sam Butler kicked his second goal of the day seconds out from the main change, to again steal the lead back – by just one at half time. Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions lock horns in a crucial battle in Tasmania with plenty of stake for both sides.
Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell (36 disposals) was back towards his best footy and he combined supremely with mid-season draftee Jai Newcombe (27), who is ...
Often scolded by supporters for being a liability with ball in hand while playing in defence, Frost’s agility and raw pace proved dangerous in the forward half. Hipwood was very quiet in his second game back from injury, with eight possessions, two marks and no impact on the scoreboard. Sign up for the Real Footy newsletter. But with Brisbane’s injuries up forward, there was no obvious match-up for Frost, so he was thrown forward early in the game. After kicking a goal and setting one up for Chad Wingard, Frost was then deployed on the wing in the third quarter, where he was used to drop off as an extra defender when Brisbane had momentum. After being in the headlines as trade bait in the off-season, the Brownlow medallist has been far from his best this year, to the point where some Hawthorn people have wondered whether he was in their best team going forward.
Mitch Lewis starred in the thrilling shoot-out between the two sides.

A spurt of consecutive goals to Dylan Moore, Mitch Lewis and Harry Morrison kept the Hawks alive heading into the fourth term. After the Lions threatened to march away, consecutive goals from Tom Mitchell, Liam Shiels and Sam Butler's first in the AFL drew the margin to one point. That was ended by Cameron as he twisted, turned and snapped his second at the 19th-minute mark. When McCarthy repeated his first-quarter heroics in the third term with the opening major and Cameron finished his third, Jaxon Prior with his second, the Lions moved to a double-digit lead as they feasted on the Hawks' turnovers.
Hawthorn has recorded a stunning win over Brisbane in a thriller at Launceston. Collingwood upset Fremantle and GWS thumped West Coast.
Andrew Gaff made a slow start on his return to the Eagles line-up with only five disposals in the first half before spending more time on ball to finish with 19 touches. Brander finished with 16 disposals and a goal against the club that drafted him from the Giants Academy with a first-round pick in 2017. Tim Kelly (23 disposals) and Jack Redden (20) battled hard in the Eagles midfield and Alex Witherden (18) looked to provide some run out of defence. With Himmelberg pushed to the back line, Jarrod Brander spent more time forward in his third match for the Giants since being delisted by the Eagles at the end of last season. Himmelberg looked comfortable in the back line and enjoyed the freedom to launch some torpedoes when kicking in after behinds, with one long bomb in the second term flying beyond the centre circle. Both teams were missing several stars, especially after the Giants made nine changes to their team from last week, but the hosts settled quicker with four unanswered goals in the opening nine minutes that set the tone for the match. The Giants outclassed the undermanned Eagles from the opening bounce to give McVeigh the best possible start as interim coach with a 21.12 (138) to 13.8 (86) victory on Sunday. Hoskin Elliott's pack mark and goal early in the third term set alarm bells ringing for Fremantle, but a clever snap from Michael Walters in the opening minutes of the last quarter saw the Dockers close the margin back to 16 points. Ginnivan earned the ire of Fremantle fans in the final term when he outmarked Brennan Cox and celebrated in front of the Dockers' faithful while he strolled in to kick the easiest of goals. The Dockers struggled for fluency in last week's 36-point loss to Gold Coast in the wet, and a pre-match downpour on Sunday ensured another slippery affair. But with returning star Tom Mitchell (36 disposals) and young gun Jai Newcombe (27) influential in the middle, they surged home to win 18.9 (117) to 17.10 (112) on Sunday. But his dribbled shot from the boundary missed with teammates appealing for a pass in the corridor.
