Fremantle hosts Collingwood to close out Round 10 as Justin Longmuir's side will look to bounce back from last week's shock loss to Gold Coast.
One of the few times they’ve got past centre, then the front and square from James Aish to Brodie,” Garry Lyon praised. Will Brodie was able to snap the Dockers goal scoring drought when he pounced on a loose ball inside 50. But the Dockers inability to clear from half back cost them dearly moments later. Only a late desperate dive from Docker Griffin Logue saw the ball touched and scores brought level. Lyon praised the “absolutely ferocious” attack of the Pies in the 36-point win. Lyon said it was clear Collingwood “adapted better” to the wet footy. Describing Collingwood’s attack as “dirty, ugly footy”, Garry Lyon said the Pies pressure in their forward half was the reason they continued to hit the scoreboard. When Jack Ginnivan got out the back in a one-on-one against Brennan Cox, the young Pie gave it to the crowd when he got the ball over the back and strode into an open goal. “Fremantle had found a little bit more energy … but Collingwood were up to the challenge.” When Jamie Elliot kept it alive in the goal square, Mihocek got a boot to it for his second goal from the goal line. “It’s dirty, ugly footy and it’s hacked off the ground by Jamie Elliott and (Mihocek) gets a toe to it,” Lyon said. “The kick was good enough to get over the back and that’s the difference.

The Magpies' showman kept his feet in a contest with Brennan Cox and was left to waltz into an open goalsquare, but before thumping the ball through he pumped his fist in front of the Fremantle cheer squad and gave them an animated celebration after his work was done. It was a highlight of the match, but just another example of a Collingwood defender intercepting Freo's forward thrusts. Howe and Darcy Moore were a thorn in the Dockers' side and a big reason for the Magpies' win. Jack Ginnivan couldn't help himself as he ran into the goalsquare to kick the goal that put the result beyond doubt. It was the work of all Magpies when they didn't have the ball, however, that was a defining feature of the win, with no passengers in the pressure stakes, laying 88 tackles to the Dockers' 61. It was a win built on hard-work at the contest, relentless tackling and discipline in the slippery conditions, with Collingwood’s no-fuss style prevailing against Fremantle's overuse and refusal to adjust sufficiently to the conditions.
Collingwood have caused one of the upsets of the season after thumping top-four hopefuls Fremantle at a wet and slippery Optus Stadium on Sunday evening.
Brayshaw executed a perfect hip-and-shoulder on Nathan Murphy in the first quarter which collected the returning Magpie in the ribs, winding him for a few moments and forcing him from the field. The Pies upped the ante after the first break as they got on top around the stoppages and in contested ball. Murphy returned to the thick of the action not long after. Howe took one of his trademark hangers midway through the third quarter as he launched onto Matt Taberner’s shoulders on the wing and pulled in an absolute ripper. Shortly after, Noble spoiled Rory Lobb close to goal, denying the big Docker a marking opportunity. They are now in the top four only on percentage ahead of St Kilda.

The Pies travelled west to the drenched Optus Stadium and beat Freo in a stunning display of we weather footy. HB has the Big Questions.
One of my mates gets on Elliott a bit for the fact that he ends up on the sidelines a little too often, and he has a point, really. Guys, I know he is an offensive weapon, and really, I love watching him grab the footy and create, but some of his defensive running is toilet-water bad. He took the footy from the ruck constantly, amassing 11 clearances for the game, but so many of those were quick hacks forward as Cameron and Tyler Brown attempted to curtail him. Interesting to hear that Jack Crisp had been ill for much of the week leading up to this game. Both he and Jeremy Howe have copped a bit of flak from the media in recent weeks about how much space they give their direct opponents. Heading into this week, he was sitting in third overall in our recruit rankings, and having played such good footy right off the bat, he will be the poster boy for finding players at other clubs on the cusp of getting a game but not quite establishing themselves. A good day for the Pies – not so for Mason. Of them, I genuinely rate the game of Brodie, as he was in-and-under and was not guilty of over-possessing the footy. This was the second time Brodie has gone over 20 contested touches this season, and he is averaging over 12 per game. Once they did, they worked hard to ensure their forwards would have every opportunity to create some magic, and on a couple of occasions, their hard work was rewarded by the forwards doing exactly that. Freo were +56 in handballs for the game, often attempting to run the footy down the ground and having things crumble all around them. In the slop, they bullied their way into the contest and quickly slapped the ball on the boot to gain territory.

“We like to play in the wet. We had an opportunity to display that. The locals promptly responded with a chorus of boos. “Collingwood want it more, they are up for the fight.” “We want to be a territory team, which is what you do in the wet weather. “Our style stacks up in the wet,” he told reporters at the post-match press conference.
Collingwood stood up in slippery conditions to defeat Fremantle 12.8 (80) to 6.8 (44) at Optus Stadium.
Collingwood: Cox (finger) In contrast, Fremantle racked up uncontested ball (100-62) and marks (37-20), but overused the ball out of defence and fumbled at critical moments. The Magpies produced their finest win of the season to go 5-5, upsetting the fancied Fremantle 12.8 (80) to 6.8 (44).
