Quick reminder before the NBA Draft Lottery commences: Several teams will not have a first-round pick. Houston's evaluators have already done some groundwork, but this week's combine will go a long way towards whittling down their Big Board. Expect all sorts of superstitious behavior from Houston today. The shots just didn’t fall this year like they sometimes don’t for teenagers over small samples. It is much more of an eye-of-the-beholder situation, where different evaluators have drastically different takes. Toronto used that pick to select Florida State's Scottie Barnes, who would go on to win Rookie of the Year.
The Rockets, Magic and Pistons enter the NBA Draft Lottery with the highest odds to land the No. 1 overall pick.

The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery has concluded, and the order of teams picking is set. Here are the biggest winners and losers from lottery night.
They completed a miserable season that saw only 23 wins and the third-worst record in the league. With no consensus No. 1, they are shielded from the criticism that comes with screwing up the top pick in the draft. The Pistons were the biggest loser of the night. If the Kings had moved into the top three, they might have been destined to draft Sabonis' replacement. The three players that are atop most mock drafts are all big men in Smith Jr., Holmgren and Banchero. And they still have a great shot at picking the best player that comes out of the class. And the Pistons and Rockets were the big losers. That might still happen if one of the big men fall, but the Kings ended up with the fourth pick. But the No. 1 pick in the draft is still pretty darn good in any season. Who were the biggest winners and losers from the night? And for the Magic, Thunder, Rockets and Kings, maybe all of those losses were worth it. The draft lottery is general manager Sam Presti's Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup and NBA Finals all rolled into one.

"The fans, the organization, it's so exciting," Mosley told ESPN's Mike Schmitz on the draft lottery broadcast. In the first post-Lottery update there doesn't seem to be much consensus, with Jabari Smith and Chet Holmgren as top options at No. 1.
The 6-foot-8 forward out of Iowa appears as high as No. 4 (ESPN/Net Scouts), but no lower than No. 8 (SB Nation). His most likely landing spots are the Pistons at No. 5 or Pacers at No. 6. Position: G/F Athletic wing who can make a difference on both ends, with finishes around the rim and a reliable jump shot. For example, Jabari Smith is projected to go 1st in seven of the 12 mock drafts listed below. The player with the highest point total represents the top overall selection, which is as follows: - Unlike previous seasons, there’s not a single player in our lottery that is coming straight from international play. Ivey is an athletic point guard and the Pistons would be thrilled if he slips to them at No. 5. It’s possible teams are waiting to see more on the talented shooter. There isn’t a consensus No. 1 pick like there’s been in past years (every mock had Cade Cunningham going first last season) and up and down the lottery there is much variation. We bring them together to provide a solid estimate of how the Draft could play out (Last update: May 19, 3:04 a.m. ET): The pick here would likely be Jaden Ivey if he’s available, but the Kings are pretty set in their backcourt with DeAaron Fox and Davion Mitchell, whom they took last season with the No. 9 pick. - In our first look at the best mock drafts around the internet, the theme seems to be uncertainty.

Last-second changes among team representatives are unusual at the draft lottery. Mosley was Orlando's representative at the draft lottery. The Orlando coach didn't see a ton of highs in his first year and change in charge of the struggling franchise. And Jalen Suggs, the Magic's No. 5 last year, is only 20 years old. Orlando had planned to send Jeff Weltman, the team's president of basketball operations. The franchise's future just got a little brighter on Tuesday evening, however.
