Stranger Things Season 4

The soundtrack for season four of 'Stranger Things' has been announced – listen to its first preview, a Journey cover, here.

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the Duffer Brothers wrote earlier this year. The season consists of nine episodes in total. Its newly-announced soundtrack will also be released in two parts, each shared on the same release days as the show itself.

The finale of Stranger Things 3 closed the book on a satisfying story. Season 4 now needs to undercut the final chapter so it can keep going.

All of this combined to make the ending of Stranger Things season 3 the highest-rated episode to date. Things like this helped Stranger Things take root our collective subconscious, but the show now needs to be wary of making the same mistakes as others, like Supernatural, which continued for too long. In a show which needs to devote so much time to a now disparate cast of main characters, Stranger Things doesn't have enough time to fully explore new ideas. In Stranger Things season 3, however, there was a finality to the ending that surpasses the prior two seasons' finales. Audiences are clearly excited for Stranger Things season 4, but the ongoing popularity of Stranger Things hurts its own storytelling. Following its premiere in the summer of 2016, Stranger Things became an instant classic.

Eddie Munson (whose name might just be a sly reference to Eddie Munster from The Munsters) is the leader of this club, so he has a nerdy heart of gold beneath his punkish exterior. He appears to be DMing a game of Dungeons & Dragons, but his game players are not visible in the frame. The Hellfire Club is one of the newest additions to the world of Stranger Things, and in fact provides the title for the first episode of season 4.

As you'd expect, 'Stranger Things 4' is set to live up to its billing as the darkest and scariest run of episodes yet.

Then, when you factor in an excruciating three-year wait for new episodes and the fourth run’s status as the penultimate chapter in the Hawkins saga, the expectations are beginning to reach dangerously high levels. To be fair, it looks as though a single episode was all that was shown to the crowd in attendance, but with a running time hovering around the 75-minute mark it’s basically feature-length, and more than enough to set the stage for what comes next. It wouldn’t be hyperbolic to call the impending release of Stranger Things season 4 the small screen event of the year, with Netflix’s cultural juggernaut having secured a position as one of the modern era’s most popular TV shows a long time ago.
